I don't know what's more amazing - the fact that I'm seeing a car almost 40 years old still roadoworthy, four digit HP numbers from a 6 cylinder or the amazing balance this thing carries off the line. Absolute genius work.
Everyone knocking the XD body shape - WTF? one of my fav Ford shapes ever. I remember drooling back in the day when an XD would pull up next to you and it had those bad ass black 5.8 decals on the side. Way cool sleeper guys - love it. That custom body work is perfection.
Xd was our family car through 80's and 90's, only the door handles would go on her and us kids would climb into her til we fixed them. Many a long road trip and comfortable as fuck in the back, she was a second bed. Fuck it, I'm buying one .....

Hey Luke, I wanted to ask; How long do you have to watch of these ads at the beginning before you get paid for it as a viewed ad??? Is that even how it works for you guys? You get paid for the advertising don't you? Just for an example, there was an ad almost 3 mins long at the beginning of this vid, how long would that need to be viewed so you get paid? I feel the need to let these adds run these days and not skip them, just to try and help you guys get a bit of income- but it does get painful at times, it's not so much a problem with 15 and 30 second ads. I want to know the minimum time so I don't get stuck watching whole advertisements of things I'm not interested in, but still want to ensure you get the maximum income possible from my view. Can you fill me in a bit on how it works, please- cause I don't know how much longer I can put up with stoopid 3 min long ads
+ramon tubbs There's a guy over here in Australia with an orange '66 'Stang with the previous gen Falcon 6 cyl. It's 'plates are ITUFF I think- it's been on Fullboost before. It's properly rego'd and engineered, so it's legal to drive on the streets. John's run pretty deep into the 8's in it, it's a beautiful car with gorgeous cream coloured leather interior with a leather wrapped 'cage and all the mod cons of a street car. It just kicks arse like a race car though. Check it out, sounds like it'd be of interest to you. Oh, and it's also a Tunnel Vision built engine
It's a shame these engines aren't mainstream in the US. Ford could actually earn their place in history against the 2J and RB engines bringing an inline 6 like that to the market here. This car is MINT. The shaved engine compartment really does it for me. Top notch.
Yeah, it's pretty trick, isn't it... They are heavy weights on the track over here, especially in Melbourne where this was filmed (Calder Park Raceway). We have full steel body cars running Barra engines that run 7's (a Falcon ute)and the same shop has an ex- Pro Stock race car from the States with Barra power that runs 6's!!! Dyno- Mite Performance own those two. This shop, Tunnel Vision has been building turbo Falcon 6's before that factory started building them using previous generation Falcon engines. It's almost like Jason of Tunnel Vision gave Ford Australia the idea after seeing how well they went with turbos on them. Kind of makes Jason the "Godfather" of the turbo Falcon 6 cyl imo. Tunnel Vision build some of the fastest Barra cars in the country, and have a very good rep in the racing community in Australia.
The 6 second ex- Pro Stock car I mentioned apparently makes around 1800hp, so yeah they are really up there with the best 2JZ's in the world! Really impressive when you think about the population difference and how that effects development of these things. That poor old Ex- P/S car would never of had so much power thrown at it in it's Pro- Stock days. It sounds mental, revving to about 9000RPM. If we had the kind of oil money the Middle East does, that car would be serious competition for E Kanoo and their Supras
These are definitely up there with a 2jz and Rb but there is a big crowd of import lovers who don't appreciate them because they are domestic. I've owned a 2jz supra and a rb25 stagea (I know it's not godzilla that is still a dream). If you are a true car guy you can appreciate all engines and the bara 6 turbo is simply incredible. Dropping this into a fox body or even a corvette would be epic. Ford Australia should have produced at least 1 coupe or sports car with this engine.
+Sam Cody I agree with everything you've said there. Very true, they are a fantastic engine and it WOULD have been nice to see it in a sportier car as well
The Dodge Avenger makes 2000+, im pretty sure he is still testing on moderate boost, so he hasn't really made a pass on kill mode, on the weekend im pretty sure he had to take power out of it and he ran a 4.28 to the 1/8 the thing should be easily a 5 second car when fully tested and adjusted. Pretty fucking outstanding for a motor that has only been in Australia.
this has to be up there as one of my fav cars I've seen on UA-cam sure there's exotic cars all over the place on here but this is something special its perfect spot on
Wow..... Absolutely LOVE this thing. I wish we had those here in the states. That combo just works and it looks like potentially more racing than wrenching.
FORD Australia, what a fantastic designer and builder of some of the greatest cars for the the common bloke and sheila. The BA platform with the Barra motor is pure magic.
This coming from a Holden bloke, one of the best production engines out there gone to pasture before its time. I hope someone manages to get the production licence for the Barra and keep it going.
I always have been and always will be a holden man ( this is my wife's UA-cam account) but I have to admit this car is the best sleeper I have ever seen a beautiful car and a master piece in my eyes , well done to it's creator .
it's great to see a video of a car that's actually a sleeper, instead of one where you can see the painfully obvious modifications that a layman could notice. No flashy rims, only giveaway would be the t h i c c tyres.
I once owned a crappy beige XD that looked exactly like this . Mine was just a little slower . Stock 4.1 . Single throat carb .3 speed auto . What a beast . Love sleepers , this is a ripper !
It will never be the next 2JZ. It might have gobs of reliable power, but it's physically too big to make any sense to put in something else. You can fit an LS1 into an MX5, what can you fit a barra into?
Kinetically Lateral yeh you're not wrong. I've been thinking about that a lot lately actually, the aspirated Barra would be an amazing engine in a lighter, smaller car, but it would never fit. I'd love to swap it into something one day but it's big and heavy, not a promising swap.
I had the same idea once, but the size really starts to sink in once the motor is sitting on the ground next to something else. It's a shame really, the motors are bulletproof
Such a cool car. Well done on the quality of the engine conversion. It's so clean in that engine bay, you literally could eat off it. Love the widened Snow Flakes on the rear. Love the quality 'cage install too, the way the rear stays are positioned he can legally use the back seat too- very clever. I want to do the same sort of designed 'cage in my R31 so I stop getting booted out the track every time I let it eat down at Calder. It kind of makes it not really worth going racing for me at the moment. Gotta go book in with Mark down at LMS in Preston. Mark does some of the best fab work in Melbourne, and is very reasonably priced for the top quality work he does
Jason you are absolutely awesome for example full street trim and a 7 second time slip what you have here is something that my grandmother isn't afraid of taking to the shops. Congratulations and may the best of the luck with your XD Ford falcon continue to reign a huge shitstorm on all who try to take the crown
Imagine cruising on a Saturday night in your Modified civic, gtr, commodore, xr6 turbo or what ever and being humbled by this unlikely monster. I'm not a ford guy but I admit that this is amazing and I would truly love to see this thing in person shatter some egos.
Proper car!, thats the dogs bollocks!. I commented on another vid yesterday about you aussies having cortinas, never knew they were available in austraila, now this vid...and its a granada!!, your versions are way more interesting than what we had, biggest cortina we had was a 2.3 v6, and the granada was a 3.0 v6, later changed to a 2.8 injected v6!. Good to see the old beasts flying down the strip. All the best from the U.K.
I have never seen that engine before it is incredible. Those cars were called a Ford Granada mk2 here in the UK and they were fitted with a 2.8 V6 very quick back in the day but this one is a monster, love the dash 😎
I remember back in the mid 80s, a guy named Greg Flaherty was the first driver in Australian Pro Stock to break into the 8s with his 351 powered XE Falcon named Shotgun. Fast forward 35 years and it's crazy to think this earlier model 6cyl XD falcon street car could tow the Pro Stock race car, over 1000 kms to the track then line up next to it on the start line and kick it's arse down the strip .
... I want an early Commodore body with that in it. Probably a VK, I think they looked the best.... You can make an XD go fast in a straight line (see above) but you really can't make one handle. They do need a bit of work to get overall grip, because that's a bit lacking, but they are a chuckable wieldy easy-to-drive car. Ford 9 inch dif, Watts Linc in place of the panhard rod... You'd need some modern brakes though, the original ones were not quite safe in a funeral procession... Like that car, you'd need to put some kind of cage in it, but just try and keep it low key....
Erwin G. Not a Granada, not a single part interchanges.. it’s a Aussie Falcon and Granada is basically a cortina.. big difference including in suspensions
This is my kind of car, just love the sleeper look. It's like a serial killer dressed up as a geography teacher! Must be a real hoot on the street? Can you imagine the damage it could do to posing supercar owners egos? Oh hell yes!!!
I swear in years to come you'll find Barra turbos in all sorts of things... the chevy small block of Oz... Cheap, plentiful, reliable, huge potential, these even don't sound too bad for a 6
That setup looks great. Yeah you see these 30 year old cars in reasonable nick every so often and think what a shame to scrap it or see it resigned to rust away. See fuck all of these around (actually a good thing mostly) but happy to know theres this out there. Very stout.
Look at that shit stand up and run low 9's and high 8's holy shit. I am honestly surprised the frame and suspension can handle that. Damn thats cool. Near the end, that purr I could listen to that all day.
Beats every single car on that netflix sleeper tv show by 10 car lengths at least, what a fucking beast. Australia should do a version to show sleepers really can pump a Lambo.
I would really LOVE to have a Barra to put in something and boost tf out of it. It's the RB26 or 2JZ of Australia. I would really like to get something like an old Merkur XR4Ti, Thunderbird, Cougar, or even an old stripped out Fox body Mustang and swap in a Barra with a big honking turbo on it. I just think that would be so much fun.
That engine bay is a work of art!
I was thinking the same thing. He's put some effort into the conversion, hasn't he?!?
Indeed, it looks very clean and uncluttered, very nice indeed. And what a contradiction with the "sleeper-neglected" look on the outside, nice!
That custom body work is perfection.
yeah XE is my fave
Had two s-pac's... cruise you get the nice lumpyness.. give it some beans and no one would hear.
I have an XE as my project car, lovin life.
Best looking box from the 80's. (For a Ford) Go the Lion though.
Xd was our family car through 80's and 90's, only the door handles would go on her and us kids would climb into her til we fixed them. Many a long road trip and comfortable as fuck in the back, she was a second bed. Fuck it, I'm buying one .....

Really like how the outside looks weathered and a bit rough and under the bonnet is show quality, my sort of car.
Wow..... Absolutely LOVE this thing. I wish we had those here in the states. That combo just works and it looks like potentially more racing than wrenching.
the standard Uncle beige paint job, is my favourite.
FORD Australia, what a fantastic designer and builder of some of the greatest cars for the the common bloke and sheila. The BA platform with the Barra motor is pure magic.
But do all the door handles work??
mostly :)
wd-40 them fixed my vl doors handle
Bahaha , so true ...
Only an Aussie who's owned one will get that comment. Hand up if you've had the buggers snap off in your hand.
This coming from a Holden bloke, one of the best production engines out there gone to pasture before its time. I hope someone manages to get the production licence for the Barra and keep it going.
Super clean install go FORD.
Go Tunnel Vision!!!
I always have been and always will be a holden man ( this is my wife's UA-cam account) but I have to admit this car is the best sleeper I have ever seen a beautiful car and a master piece in my eyes , well done to it's creator .
Now improved to an 8.69 at 158mph.
Holy fuck!!! That's more than a second in the quarter faster than a 918 Spyder!! 1 second in the quarter is HUGE!!
no shit, sherlock.
No sht sherlock
That's Mr. Holmes to you ;)
That’s fucking ridiculous
And the 20 people who disliked this vid just sank a ton of money into a 2j and still can't break the 10's ^_^
Beautiful to watch it launch clean and straight time after time. Great work, guys!
I was just watching the older video of the Datsun 120Y sleeper that ran 11s - it moved around a bit down the strip. That Falcon ran quite stable.
remember boys n girls the barra is from a family sedan so comparing it to Japanese racers is quite a compliment.
Another epic Tunnel Vision build. They put together some awesome streeters
Isn't it a Fullboost with tunnel vision custom piping?
it's great to see a video of a car that's actually a sleeper, instead of one where you can see the painfully obvious modifications that a layman could notice. No flashy rims, only giveaway would be the t h i c c tyres.
I once owned a crappy beige XD that looked exactly like this . Mine was just a little slower . Stock 4.1 . Single throat carb .3 speed auto . What a beast . Love sleepers , this is a ripper !
that engine bay is so clean.
that is crazy .... gets the power down so well and what a tidy job up front!!
Engine bay is perfect
Awesome job on the falcon.I remember driving one here in new zealand,it had the turning circle of the Queen mary 2
2jz eat your heart out. Barra is the new 2jz
Mantenner really though...having over half a liter more displacement over a stroker 2j hurts feelings
It will never be the next 2JZ. It might have gobs of reliable power, but it's physically too big to make any sense to put in something else. You can fit an LS1 into an MX5, what can you fit a barra into?

I had the same idea once, but the size really starts to sink in once the motor is sitting on the ground next to something else. It's a shame really, the motors are bulletproof
yeh and I mean in a lighter body, say 1400kg or less there isn't even a need for the turbo engine, but yeh the size is a real kicker :/
I did ten years as a mech for the blue oval, would have been nice working on Barra engines with this much space !
Great car, build and performance !!!
Such a cool car. Well done on the quality of the engine conversion. It's so clean in that engine bay, you literally could eat off it. Love the widened Snow Flakes on the rear. The best Aussie sleeper is my wife. She could sleep 23.5 hours a day and still say she's tired. LOL.
Imagine cruising on a Saturday night in your Modified civic, gtr, commodore, xr6 turbo or what ever and being humbled by this unlikely monster. I'm not a ford guy but I admit that this is amazing and I would truly love to see this thing in person shatter some egos.
Watched this at Calder park Friday night , solid 8's every time , it was absolutely insane an extremely impressive.
Love the clean engine bay and electronic dash
XD comes complete with dent in passenger door.
Authentic Bogan styling.
Nah, bogans bought commodores.
my Nana had the same GL, same colour wheels, and everything. And the way she drove it im convinced she sold it ""as is" to this guy lol
Love this car. Been a fan for a while now and love the "Shit on the outside but mint engine bay look"
Nice Plain Jane now that’s a street Car looks like grandpas car goes like the clappers. Cool man 👍👍👍👍👍😎
Proper car!, thats the dogs bollocks!. It's not a granada it just looks a bit like one
that thing is awesome. very nice clean engine
my gl was similar but three on the tree and was good for low 40 sec.
very good job the cleanest hood i ever seen the best sleeper ever well done
i aint no ford fan but i love this 1😉
Why can't we get stuff like this in the States !
Gerome Surall because all y'all are worried about are LS engines and 2J's
there was a time when ford australia wanted to do an export deal to the states and blame ford usa for not going with that
Ryan Ell 😂👌👍
L MO. it was the cop car deal?
Because ford america raped and fucked over ford Australia
a sheer work of art, stunning just stunning
Now THAT"S a street car!
Absolute sleeper too! Hahaha, phwoar what a car.Great video!
That is a seriously clean enginebay!
Just can't get enough of this video
I have never seen that engine before it is incredible. Those cars were called a Ford Granada mk2 here in the UK and they were fitted with a 2.8 V6 very quick back in the day but this one is a monster, love the dash 😎
other than looking a bit like a mk II granada they share no common parts.
Great looking enigne bay. Clean as.
Awesome build!
You Aussie boys make it happin. Like that kind.
WOW. Very nice build!
Be interesting to hear what mods have been made to the chassis/monocoque - it looks pretty damn stiff when it's launching.
... I want an early Commodore body with that in it. Probably a VK, I think they looked the best.... You can make an XD go fast in a straight line (see above) but you really can't make one handle. Proper engine work.
damn that launch is amazing
Absolutely Awesome!! Insane Falcon/Granada!
Erwin G. Not a Granada, not a single part interchanges.. it’s a Aussie Falcon and Granada is basically a cortina.. big difference including in suspensions
That thing is rad.
that is a beautiful engine bay.
Nothing gives it away except those really big tires in the back
Cleanest engine I've seen in years :)
that is one quick shoebox!
Spot on, nice work, nuff said.
WOW! Well done folks.
This is my kind of car, just love the sleeper look. It's like a serial killer dressed up as a geography teacher! Must be a real hoot on the street? Can you imagine the damage it could do to posing supercar owners egos? Oh hell yes!!!
That's nice.. if you leave e85 sitting to long will it clog your injectors?
omg so clean!!! Epic SLEEPER!
Gotta love ya Barra!
barra the world
That's an inline 6 + 1 giant turbo = 1200hp. And it tracks straight. Well done.
damn that engine bay is cleaner than my room!
A car that makes me giggle. Just want one!
phenomenal.
I swear in years to come you'll find Barra turbos in all sorts of things... the chevy small block of Oz... Cheap, plentiful, reliable, huge potential, these even don't sound too bad for a 6
engine bay an I like the old bigger Granny look. very good Australia from UK
Bloody brilliant.
I love the smell of 80's 😂
not a ford fan but what a weapon.good onya boys👍
the ford tractor 6 one of the best pity there wont be any new ones i still miss my AU2 XR6
That setup looks great. Yeah you see these 30 year old cars in reasonable nick every so often and think what a shame to scrap it or see it resigned to rust away. See fuck all of these around (actually a good thing mostly) but happy to know theres this out there. Very stout.
eh, XD's and Xe's are slowly rising to follow their chrome bumpered cousins in price, so less and less are getting scrapped.
That's one quick taxi.
Look at that shit stand up and run low 9's and high 8's holy shit. I am honestly surprised the frame and suspension can handle that. Damn thats cool. Near the end, that purr I could listen to that all day.
Sleepers rule!
Looks like a UK MKII Granada :) I had a modified 2.0L Pinto powered MKII, but nowt like this!!!
Beautiful engine work
Bloody genuis guys love the look
Love the stock looking rims
Coolest car on track!
So bloody awesome.
Beats every single car on that netflix sleeper tv show by 10 car lengths at least, what a fucking beast. Australia should do a version to show sleepers really can pump a Lambo.
That's so cool brother...I want one
whaaat? 8 seconds? This is a cool sleeper.
beautiful under the hood!
"full street trim...." I like that factory rollcage.....sick car, and quick! Relocate the air intake maybe for a few more neddies.
And you get to drive it home... That's what it's about. E85 makes nice power and runs super cool to prevent blow ups
Starts better than my e-gas wagon
I would really LOVE to have a Barra to put in something and boost tf out of it. It's the RB26 or 2JZ of Australia. I would really like to get something like an old Merkur XR4Ti, Thunderbird, Cougar, or even an old stripped out Fox body Mustang and swap in a Barra with a big honking turbo on it. I just think that would be so much fun.
8.7.... wow last run was sickkk
Perfect daily.
how good is the engine bay
