I started drawing a few months ago and at first I didn't care about learning, I just wanted to draw and have fun. But like 4 or 5 month later I started trying to learn and understand drawing to become better and try to achieve my goals, I was tired of this, not because i didn't like it, but it was long and difficult. it was just this week that I understood that i get better every time i draw, i just don't see it because i saw on internet some people that make 100x better art than me. But these artist I watched also went through the same stages as me. So please guys don't forget that drawing is a sport, a sport that will take you time to get better at. Don't be discouraged, make sure to do what you love and never regret your choices.
    💪💪💪
    Thank you charlie 🙏

I'm so glad this is a seemingly universal experience. The learning stages felt like a chore and when I went to try and do something "fun", I would just look at my screen insanely tired. After I got down the basics and realized what and why I wanted to draw, that tired sensation started slowly going away and replaced by actual joy from making something

i feel like the more i draw, the more i understand that things can be broken down into shapes and i can just go along with that. i still have my errors and weakpoints but the whole point is to do my best and learn from my mistakes.

I needed to hear this. I've been drawing as long as I can remember. In junior high and high school, I would fill up a sketchbook every semester. In college, I took art classes and got a minor in digital art. After I graduated college, though, I stopped drawing as much. I still draw every now and then, and my skills have improved, but only slowly. I take it by fits and spells.
I just need to focus on what I want to do and set goals that will help me achieve that. One step at a time. I just have to take it one step at a time.

For me, something that really helped was having a sense of community. I started doing life drawing again a few years ago just before the pandemic. But when everything moved online, I had the opportunity to work with models from all over the world and became pretty cool with some of them, as well as some artists in those countries too.
People are really supportive, and models always share your work of them. And there are a lot of shared experiences too, such as Instagram taking down our work because of nudity (even drawings or when the models censor their photos). It made it really easy to want to do sessions multiple times a week.
That said, I did eventually reach a point where I couldn't keep that pace. But my skills improved so much, that I can now work for an hour and get something better than what would have taken me 5 before. And I'm also branching out to doing physical media again and even trying body painting

damn... i guess here's my story since i have to vent this out of my mind
so around 2 years ago i met one of my bestest friends out there, she's an artist and she draws INCREDIBLY well, and last year I thought that I was wasting my life doing nothing, and whining to myself that I couldn't bring my imagination and creativity to life, so I took up drawing... bought myself a tablet and started trying and training, and learning and doing this for a while until i knew how to draw straight lines and stuff and could trace and what not... and it was a long trip full of lost motivation and burn outs and everything there is to be
and a month or so ago, maybe 2 i gave up fully because i feel like i'm making 0 progress, i can't do anything anymore. my lines aren't good, i don't know what pens and stuff to use in the program i use (i use firealpaca), and whenever i look on youtube and stuff, the lineart is amazing, the pens or brushes they're using are so damn good and i'm here, not knowing which is which or what program is good to use.
whenever i think to myself that "i'm gonna draw today, i feel motivated" and what not in school, i feel hyped, but then when i come home i do my work and everything, then feel no motivation for that anymore so i just game it out with my friends.
i genuinely don't know how to continue. i'm lost and i need guidance, so for anyone out here, please if you can give me tips and such.
anyway, thanks for reading my ted talk!

So the question I have to ask is what's your why?
For me, the goals that I have been able to achieve tend to come from me wanting to escape pain or discomfort.
Your comment says you felt like you were wasting your life? Not that you should share your story on a comment section, but why did you think drawing would be a good path to take?
Are you looking to make art a career, or a hobby. Both are fine, but one of them requires a big enough WHY...
I love the quote, "He who has a why to live for can bear almost any how"

    • @skeci
      @skeci 2 місяці тому

Well at first I was thinking about making it a hobby, but since I wanna make a game, I'd say I need some skill to create my characters.
Plus, I've been dying to make my creativity come to life as I said, I can't comission since it really just doesn't feel the same as if it were made by me you know? I feel like I'd feel better about myself if I at least did this
