When an object is being overlapped, do you make the objects line thicker entirely when it’s in front. or only on the place they visually make “t” lines , or overlap the object?

Good artist, good teacher, good editor
What a combination
Your art is so lively and expressive, and your video editing skills are amazing. Keep up the great work! :D
Thanks so much! 😊🙏

These are the classic line-weights we used while working for Don Bluth. Makes a huge difference.
One of those rare youtubers where I watch the ad from beginning to end
i had such a “ohhh!” moment in my head when you were talking about T lines! like a little lightbulb lit up in my brain. your videos and the way you explain concepts are so helpful, thank you!!!
The transition at 3:23 showing all of the lines being the same weight is exactly what I needed to see. Thank you
I am *so* glad you mentioned Jin Kim! I often find myself studying his work on Big Hero 6, and always loved how expressive his sketches are. I hope that someday his style will be represented in a 2D animated project, because I can't help but feel something is lost whenever his work gets put to CGI
00:00 🎨 Ben introduces himself as an artist who specializes in stylized drawing, painting, and sculpting.
00:14 🖊️ Ben will discuss line weight and Line work, providing practical tips and tricks for achieving more dynamic and interesting results.
00:28 🧙 Ben introduces the concept of a "whisper line," which adds depth to line work and aids in painting and rendering.
00:42 💡 Ben highlights the importance of seeking context and new perspectives when studying other artists' line work.
01:23 🎸 Adam Savage's analogy about gaining "new eyes" in the learning process is applied to art, emphasizing growth and evolving understanding.
02:19 🧐 Ben suggests actively analyzing artists' work to identify patterns, such as the placement of thicker and thinner lines.
02:49 🅣-lines, resembling T's, are introduced as a technique to convey depth and layering in artwork.
03:17 🧱 Line weight is used to create the illusion of three-dimensionality on a two-dimensional surface.
03:45 📚 Ben promotes his Gumroad tutorial, offering an in-depth walkthrough of his artistic process, including painting and rendering.
04:41 ➖ Different scenarios for employing thicker lines are discussed, including emphasizing outer lines for character definition.
05:11 ➰ Thicker lines are used strategically when objects overlap, aiding in visual separation and depth perception.
05:53 ☑️ Shadows are considered in line work to enhance the illusion of light and form, including the use of contextual thicker lines.
06:22 ↩️ Thicker lines are applied around corner lines, indicating areas where the viewer's perspective is limited.
06:49 🌬️ Whisper lines are introduced as subtle, descriptive lines that hint at three-dimensional form without overpowering darker lines.
07:17 📏 Whisper lines are especially effective in highlighting the meeting points of different planes in a subject, aiding in rendering and lighting decisions.
Man this is one of the most helpful art tutorial videos I have ever seen on this platform. You just taught me how I can learn from my art idols in a way that makes sense and actually helps the learnings stick. Thanks so much Ben! Insane amount of value in a free YT video.
The quality of these videos is just insane. So useful and well-explained. Always hit the end of the video wanting more!
Very helpful tips! The thicker lines seem to usually suggest shadow, thickness, depth and such, giving a sense of visual "weight".
Your lines in particular are very pleasing and well balanced! I generally prefer thin lines in my artwork, but it does feel too uniform a lot of times. I'm trying to incorporate a wider range of line weight and thickness.
Oh boy, I been waitin' for this one. I love how much Life you put in your work! It never ceases to amaze!
used to love your art style and rendering techniques, now fell in love with ur video editing skills, you are so sorted!
dude, your videos are the best. the information quality, the edit, everything.
this is honestly the best 8-minute video tutorial I've ever watched to improve my drawing skills, tysm!
I followed you on Instagram back when you had 4k followers and I was amazed by your tutorials, never been a fan of the artistic style but I DIGGED your fundamentals understanding and the way you execute those basics into making wonderful work, thanks a lot for your support and help🙏✨
Great video! For me, studying skilled manga artists are my favorite way to try and make sense of line weight. I love looking at pencil work that mangakas do too, especially videos. Seeing the decisions being made in real time really gives a wonderful idea on how to make those choices.
Incredibly helpful video, Benjamin. Your edited videos are top notch!
I hope you get tons more recognition Ben! Thanks for the tips! ❤️
Your editing is so good
You are not only a good teacher but also a good content creator

There is so much gold in this vid!!!
I love your art so much and your videos are so well made 😄
As someone new to line work this video was fascinating. I have felt this phenomenon in fashion after beginning to sew and design clothes and look forward to feeling this in my visual art as well
It's so incredibly validating to realize that I've already been doing most of these, even if it's just subcinciously! I love that I can put a name to all of these techniques now :D
Thank you so much i am new to my learning journey and now i am studying line works and when you said that you are studying other artists trying to understand the variations of lines i am going to do that now plus the informations you gave us that is going to be really helpful
Really cool tips, your shape design, line weight and coloring are so visually pleasing and unique that I immediately recognize your work. Also can we talk about the editing of the video? I'm just fascinated by the transitions and animations the drawings had
Your art tutorials are some of my favorite
As an art baby but also somebody who is pretty experienced with editing... I can't understate the quality of the editing in your videos. It must take such a long time to pull all this together.

This came out exactly when I was looking for line weight help. Everyone else made sense, but I didn't know how to figure it out or apply it until now. Thank you!
While I've watched a lot of videos on line art (which were helpful), this video you made added a lot more insight on line art/work. Thank you so much & love the creative video ✨
This was an unexpected surprise. I've been doing a ton of vector line drawing and I've been wanting to learn line weight. Great video! 👏
Hundreds of art videos and I feel like this is the first one I've seen that talks about line weight. It makes so much sense now, while before I always thought it was a random stylistic choice. Very impressive! Thank you!
your product plug was so entertaining i actually watched it twice! great work!
This video couldn't have come at a better time! So helpful, thank you!
Man! U have no idea how easy to understand this unspoken tricks n tips in digital art because of u! Thank you so much!
The best artist for art tips and tricks thx Ben!!!🙌👏
wow, I'm so glad to hear another artists describe with fresh terminology what I've come to obsess over when it comes to my own line work.
I'm no where near as good at planes as you, not yet at least, but I have for many years been very focused on line weight, whisper lines and the way certain surfaces and planes cast almost invisible lines that the eyes just sort of fill in.
very good video
I think you are the next proko! Great videos with out of this world quality! Amazing audio, and I have no words left to describe the animations, the special effects, and the video edit! I also loved the 1 min sponsor! I usually skip them but not yours! I am saving just so I can buy the gumroad tut. 🎉🎉❤❤❤❤ I'll have to rewatch this video a few times just to digest the amazing information, I'll make sure to take notes.
wow .... its the best video tutorial, you are the best ben
I struggle a lot with doing things intuitively while also referencing the original artist’s work in my head… I end up leaning towards the latter which messes up how I draw naturally. BUT.. your explanations and this video were a concise way to help understand line weight concepts! Thank you!!
I love your animations in studying! So professional
The editing is so good man keep up the great work 100k not far away fr.
I watched the sponsor ad fully. Well deserved for so many reasons! Thank you for the video. ❤
I am amazed how well you have created your character its just look like you and after seeing your character your face is also look like stylized character
These videos are insanely packed with value

Less than 10 seconds in your video, and seeing what you do, I hit Subscribe faster than ever before. Never have I hit a subscribe button so fast. I rarely comment on videos, but I felt like I had to say this, because you're awesome.
This is probably the best and the easiest explanation on how to use line weight. Thank you!

Nice work, I like your style.
ben this is fantastic! i'm trying to work on my line work and practice using pens and markers but i find myself struggling with trying to express form and end up relying on shadows but since i'm relly just winging everything, my sketches can end up messy which is fine but they're not clear. i enjoyed your thoughts on your loomis video, thanks for another great one! :))
Sir, thank you for this brush 😌
new sub, i love your vibes man
I'm looking for more male artists (I find that I'm able to learn, connect, and relate to artists who are similar to me), and I'm glad i stumbed upon your channel
Very cool style of drawing! Hope to get there one day.
You had me at line weight and line width!
T-shapes was an a-ha moment while making stencils-a place that I can safely cut and still allow the viewer of the final image to see a suggestion of depth. Great point! I hadn’t thought of it outside of stenciling. Thanks for the new a-ha!
