    LMAO!!! That "bear" at Westwood Junction was absolutely epic! So glad you were able to join me for the ride and chase yesterday, and even gladder you made it home with out falling asleep lol. Loved seeing your shots, especially where you did different things at the same locations. That shot from 901 towards the bridge worked out really well. I'll have to do that one next time.

    • @wayneantoniazzi2706
      @wayneantoniazzi2706 Рік тому

      @@railroadenthusiast6246 A shed or mini-roundhouse would be ideal of course, but as long as they keep an eye on it and take care of it 113 will be fine, even if stored outdoors.

      I really wish they could build a shelter for her but they do seal up all the windows and doors / ports. Take off the bell / whistle and all lanterns. But yes a structural building would be nice.

    It's like a blast from the past like going back in time , the modern loco in the lead , than on the tail end is the smoker, The 113 had no problem pulling that old diesel around,. Think of the power of 113 ,You would need how many diesles to do what just on of the 113, She is the Pride Of The Coal Region,

    • @wayneantoniazzi2706
      @wayneantoniazzi2706 Рік тому +1

      I'd have to check the stats, but I believe 113 has a tractive effort not much less than a CNJ Pacific of the same period. A very powerful switcher.

    • @wayneantoniazzi2706
      @wayneantoniazzi2706 Рік тому +1

      I did some checking, and 113 has MORE tractive effort (46,000 pounds) than the CNJ's first series of P43 Pacifics which were rated at 43,000 pounds.
      However not as much as the last two series, the P47 and P53's which were 47,000 and 53,000 pounds respectively. Still, at 46,000 pounds 113 is one gutsy switcher!

      @@NixCrossing Sounds like a plan. Talking about smaller engines & going to the other end of the speed spectrum, Alvin Stauffer's 1962 book Pennsy Power gives a quote from an E6s crewman, tells they were the nicest hand fired engines ever, rode smooth, were fast enough to set timetable operations, were nicknamed "Speed Queens" but had a sometimes scary habit that you fixed by ... drum roll please ... Going Faster! 🤔😲 Said around 70 mph they sometimes got a tipsy side-to side motion that could be scary but it if you kept accelerating it went away and the smooth riding returned. From what I've read in various places through the decades, a PRR 4-4-2, especially the E6s class would happily cruise at 100 and 100+ for as long as you could feed and water it. I have gotten the impression that the PRR mechanical staff and locomotive crews didn't really ever hit the upper limit of how fast they _could_ go and maybe didn't even know the upper limit.
      Would have been a hoot to be an eccentric millionaire at the time and take one out to Kansas and tell the crew, "Okay guys, just keep accelerating until it stops accelerating."
