I have a Fiat Panda 4x4 Twinair with an LPG system installed and it already saved me around 1300€ a year (I do around 20k miles yearly), it's free to tax, Milan congestion charge exempt, free to park, plus it's always nice to know I'm not polluting even slightly as much as if I was running on Diesel or Petrol!
Great informative short video. I recently downsized from diesel to petrol. It's been the BIGGEST mistake of my life. Doing on average of 8 to 9k miles a year, I thought it was a no brainier. Huge mistake. My new car is literally drinking unleaded petrol. Seems like I'm filling up at least once every ten days. Whereas I did once a month in my diesel. Of note.... My driving range/style/commutes/distances all remain unchanged. Both cars were brand new from factory Nissans. Can't wait to change back to diesel. Yes it's a little noisy and less 'smooth' than petrol. But having now experienced my first petrol engine. I'll stick with diesel for their overall impression.
And if you don't care and just go for the looks, definitely buy a Golf GTE with the beautiful chrome exhaust tips and the GTI-like front with the led lighting.

It is not correct to state that if the diesel particulate filter becomes blocked due to short journeys taken, that you will need to buy another DPF filter. Short journeys could partially block the DPF but most manufactures can perform a 'burn-off' function to turn the soot stored in the filter into ash, thereby allowing the DPF filter to be reused.
hybrids are not that much expensive to buy than normal cars lol...a friend of mine bought a toyota yaris hybrid 2014 for around 18.000 and the mileage is just wow, we did 140km of highway once and she claimed she used only 4 euro (gas price here 95 is around 1.18 per litre) and I must say that is quite impressive! it even beats my uncle's ford focus 1.6 diesel car with at least double the economy o.o damn Toyota is packing some serious business in the economy world!

Ivor, if you put petrol in a diesel engine and try to run it for any length of time (more than several minutes), the high pressure injection system will suffer badly (particularly with a common rail system fitted), causing metal shavings to start to seize up the high pressure pump. also these metal shavings will find there way to the injectors to also contaminate them. The net result is that if contamination has occurred, it usually means the whole injection system will need to be replaced at a very high cost. If diesel is put into a petrol car then little damage will occur.
I forgot to mention why the high pressure pump gets damaged by petrol. It's because petrol, unlike diesel, has no lubrication properties and due to the very tight tolerances between the pump, will cause metal fragments to be formed.

If governments were serious, they'd stop causing congestion and closing perfectly good access roads, thus making 1000's of vehicles a day drive miles out of their way!
