- The legendary ride Fire In The Hole is celebrating Grand Finale in 2023. More than 25 million guests have been entertained by the Fire In the Hole adventure since the attraction opened a half-century ago and the ride’s storyline is modeled after the real-life mining town, Marmaros, that was located atop Marvel Cave and home to residents of long-ago Ozarks.
The attraction, novel in its introduction in 1972, has fire-brigade themed trains that twist, turn and drop into a burning town where riders are the volunteer firefighters, saving the citizens and battling the flames before getting soaked themselves.
“Fire In The Hole is undisputedly an attraction of great historic value,” said Duane Marden, one of the attraction industry’s key experts and founder of the Roller Coaster Data Base. “It holds the title as longest running and operating indoor roller coaster. Prior to its introduction, there were very few other attempts at such a coaster before, with this one roaring onto the scene with a great theme, heart-churning drops and a good drenching along the way.”

You would think in the five times I wrote it on December 30th that I would have heard that song at least once. I just wanted the first trains going out in 1972. December 30 20/23 I was on the second to the last public train ride. On one of my rides there was a man that was probably in his mid-sixties and he was telling the woman with him that if anybody took his picture they would have to destroy it. I was right behind him I should have taken the picture but did not. On the very last public train there was a 7 year old boy riding it for his first and last time. I found a special interesting cuz that was approximately the age I was when I rode it for my first time. I found interesting that both the boy and the older gentlemen were the first time riders on the same day. The last day of the coaster. If I knew there was giving away souvenirs such as part of the track I would have registered. But I was okay with writing it on the last day. And I got to ride it four more bonus times on top of that so 5 total. On the 3rd to last ride that I took they closed it for maintenance. Some people left but I said well that's fitting because how many times has fire in the hole been closed for breaking down 👇?? No I'm sure they're going to make it more modern now that's what I was told. I asked if they were going to trade in the sock hats for the white Hood? After all this is what the ride was about a bunch of thieving White supremacist. It provided a fun look but a great historical view of our past. The past we never should have had and we should never want again. But it's still around supremacy. Nowadays you got black supremacist Latina supremacists and more. You think we would learn by now. Well I'll be interested I made this trip of several hours just to be in silver Dollar City on the final ride day. Thank you all who didn't think they want to wait in line and it would be really long. Because it made the line shorter for the rest of us who did show up. Anybody else remembers when they would take a momentarily pause and we would hear an explanation or story of what was going on? A few of us remember that. The sad thing is that many of us have memories of people who are no longer with us. They rode that ride. Regardless of how good the replacement turns out to be or not. It will never be the same. Can it be better? Of course it could be but we'll have to wait and see.
I think when they mean “original Fire in the Hole” I think there’s going to be a “new Fire in the Hole” 😮

I love this I rode this MILLIONS of times this is my favorite ride there including the flooded mine, I love the music of Fire in the hole too, I hate having to hear that THE fire in the hole is have a Grand finale.
They should open a restaurant next to this ride serving VERY spicy food and name it "Fire in MY Hole".

Yeah, it's a sign of the times, really. Back when stereo sound was rather new, musicians LOVED putting one half of the song in one ear, and the other half in the other. It became such a problem that headphones came with stereo pan sliders to even things out yourself.
I have to say this version is somewhat more somber and darker than the newer theme song. I like the newer one because it has more peppiness to it.
Rewriting history
Silver Dollar City does have some rides that are pretty grim if you think about them for too long, like terrorist attacks in Fire in the Hole, or drowning prisoners in the Flooded Mine, but I guess that’s part of the charm lol
Kind of fits the rides and the ride that goes with this version is more somber and darker. The newer ride has more peppiness as well.

Shows like spongebob is based on the idea of twisting our children's minds and they've done a pretty good job at that for the last 20 years approximately how long SpongeBob has been around. I can pick the other comparisons but I just saw that in your name. I do appreciate your comment. I really do. It's always good to see how somebody else is thinking. I'm not rode the new ride. I grew up writing the old ride. In general I see this as an opportunity for someone to reshape history. Mount Olive also said it isn't my place to educate the younger children on more advanced subjects. I've often thought that maybe due to subject matter that roller coaster should be rated PG-13 like the movies.

Well, aside from the slight name resemblance, that’s where it all ends. They didn’t ride goats, nor did they typically terrorise towns. They were in fact the original inspiration for masked heroes and villains that led to the superhero comics that began in the 1930s.

That’s the only reason I go to Silverdollar city. I don’t understand why they honor long past, but not Current past. For those 60 years and up that’s a very important childhood memory. Why would I care about soapmaking when they get rid of that memory?
