I went to primary school at Keelham with Les's son Chris in the 1960s. We used to play on the land at the back of Les's cafe on Thornton Road in Bradford, and on his farm out on the moors behind the Denholme Velvets factory. Chris had EVERYTHING, including a bubble car, motorbikes and every toy you could think of. We used to tootle around and bugger about for hours on end. Les used to come into the cafe, run by his wife Margaret (her son was also a wrestler called Dave Barry), and pretend to trip up as he walked in, perform a forward roll and stand straight back up. The laughter, applause and love for him immediately followed. Twenty years later I became a police officer in Bradford. One of my sergeants was a huge guy who was ex-forces. To find out about your background it was often the case that you would be asked about your childhood. Along the way I told him about Les Kellett, and he told me that he once had to arrest him at the side of the Alhambra Theatre in the centre of Bradford, and that it was the only time in his service that he had to request assistance with a lone member of the public. He also told me that Les was just a bit upset from a family problem and a bit pissed. A guy of Les's calibre is best being taken in and given a bed for the night, for the benefit of everyone.
World of sport ,rallying horses, football ..4pm wrestling..5pm crispy pancakes peas chips and a fried egg...the a team two Ronnie's ,film,....proper Saturday TV....now its all cookery and dancing....what went wrong?
It never went away. There is loads of British wrestling. Look up a promotion near you (I guarantee there will be at least one) and start going. It won't get back on TV without bigger crowds.
My dad was a vicar and always on duty...but....people knew never to disturb him on a Saturday when the wrestling was on!! Dennis Golden Boy Mitchell lived near us.😅
Yes Saturday just before the football scores came on,,i remember him wrestling with some one who had him in a sleeper hold and after a min he started yawning 😅
Daft as a brush - hard as fucking nails...strong as a bull...comedian extraordinaire... Way to go Les.
Awesome match, amazing crowd. So glad I started looking into Les’ work🤘🏻🤘🏻

Then turn the telly over for the Dick Emery show, the generation game and whatever happened to the likely lads.
Grow up
@@andrewtomlinson18 ...and before that proper Dr Who.
This is much much better than the dreadful American equivalent of more modern times.
It's more flash than substance now. We was spoilt with wrestlers of the past
That’s was another great match

Kent Walton on commentary was brilliant. Considering that Kent was a boxer before he became the commentator on world of sport
bet Kent was good 🥊 in his prime
