I can explain very easily. Subject was told to stop so the officer could do his job. The subject pretended at first not to hear the officer and tried to get to his front door and get in the house. This is a common misconception that if a police officer is trying to stop you, if you can get inside of your house, they cannot follow you. But this is not true under the Fresh Pursuit doctrine. Once the subject realized he was not going to make it inside he started to spin around, according to the officer the subject had the weapon in his hand, the officer was able to fire his weapon and not all of the rounds went into the subject's back. The wounds were consistent with a person who was in the process of blading himself. I am hoping the officer is found not guilty. The moral of the story is that when a police officer gives you a command, you need to follow their directions and you will not get harmed.

Notice 01:47 how the defense attorney calls it "this house" rather than correctly identifying it as "his house". She knows exactly what she's doing to make it not look so bad. Newsflash...it does look bad.
Waving his gun around in the car? Would you wave your gun around in the car in close enough proximity for a police officer to clearly see this, and then casually get out of your vehicle and enter your house? It doesn't even hold up to a logical chain of events. Also, where's the body cam video?

If the defence is referring to a man who was walking from his parked car into his home with a couple of sandwiches and his car keys in his hands while listening to music on his headphones and NOT breaking any laws whatsoever, as a "gunman", it's pretty obvious they are desperately trying to make the victim sound like a "big bad black man with a gun" to justify what seems like a pretty straightforward homicide. The idea that he was "waiving his gun around" seems very hard to believe.

I'm really trying to keep an open mind and would hope the deputy is required to wear a body cam. To me, if I were in law enforcement, I'd WANT to have a body cam all the time, for situations exactly like this. If I'm actually innocent or at least could prove, "Hey, I messed up, but you would have done the same thing in my situation", I'd want video to help me prove that.
Without video evidence, it's really hard to believe the deputy. So he was carrying sandwiches, car keys, was listening to music AND was waving a gun too? I mean, it's possible, but sounds like bs. Again, yet another reason why video would help. Without it, all I see is a man who was shot in the back six times. Kinda hard to justify that.

While I completely agree with you, if I was that deputy and I truly was innocent, I'd want something to help me out and prove my innocence. Like body cam. I don't know if deputies are required to have it, but law enforcement needs to realize that body cams benefit both the citizen AND them! Because who knows? Maybe he pointed the gun at the cop, then turned away right as the cop started firing. Do I believe that? Not in a million years. But video doesn't lie and if the deputy was required to wear his body cam and simply didn't turn it on (like they always do when they're about to do wrong), then too bad for the deputy.

Let's say in the rare chance he heard the cop. It still doesn't justify him being a threat.
      1) He has sandwiches and keys in his hands to open the door so there is no way he can also be hold a gun.
2)The defense attorney claims he was a threat to the officer. You can't be a threat to anyone if they decide to follow you home. No one follows someone they fear they run away.
      3) He was shot in his back on his way to opening the door. If your back is turned away from someone how can you be any threat to them that should give you enough time to get in your car and drive away.
      4) Why did subway not call the police if they saw a man that was a threat?
5)Why wasn't the police body camera on or the dash camera on. It's clear this officer from the moment he saw Mr Goodman with a gun going to subway he saw a target a perfect target with a gun as an excused to take his life. And proceeded with his actions. Decided not to keep all video footage off🎦. To cover his tracks.
5)His department should also be investigated to see if there was indeed footage and if it was covered up/erased. Also check prior footage from the officers previous interactions of all the officers in that department.

And through the door...that alone brings the whole story into question. The guy was INSIDE the door...who pulls a weapon on a policeman who is on the other side of a door? Without at least dropping your sandwiches and keys? It is possible that the officer could think he was in fear of his life if the deceased was outside and the firearm was in his hand. But inside his door with his hands full? The policeman will almost certainly not be convicted of murder...but he will most likely be convicted of a lesser offense and never be a policeman again. And the city will almost certainly be sued for "wrongful death" by any survivors the victim may have. And one point which should be self evident...The DEAD GUY is the Victim! Possessing a firearm doesn't make you a "gunman" unless you want to start calling every police officer a Gunman.

Depending on who you believe, some sources say the gun was found in the kitchen while the guy was shot outside.

@@aaronmoore7280 It’s reasonable that when you accuse someone of lying, you explain why you think they are lying.
And I don’t know if you guys know how reality works, but it’s entirely possible for someone to point a gun behind themselves for a moment and then turn around and be shot in the back.
I’m not saying that’s what happened here. I don’t know. I wasn’t there. But you don’t know either.

The only thing that surprises me is the cop was charged.
and the defense is stating a man holding a subway sandwich is a "gunman"
...and the cop will get off, they always do.

Being Fired Means his Story didn't add up 1 Bit to Senoir Officer's.... The Union is providing his Attorney for Defense...trust and believe the Prosecutor will be getting his Former Supervisors etc to Explain thier reasons for Firing Him vs Retaining Him to a Jury

To call someone a gunman who never used the weapon is a stretch. It shows me they're most likely lying. She's trying to paint a picture and over embellished it.

The judge is obviously biased and should be removed from this case.
Any decent and competent judge would have immediately struck that from the record and admonished the "attorney" for using such defamatory language. The only gunman in this case is the cop who fired his gun and shot the victim in the back six times.

The lawyer continues to call the victim the gunman, that should not be allowed, that is prejudicial and untrue.

Another case of cops being far too fast to show and use deadly force instead of de-escalation.
