No thanks
I’m split between 2 songs: Armatage Shanks and Letterbomb. Both have a level of energy and emotion that gets me every time.
Letterbomb is so good. Probably one of my favorite tracks off American Idiot.
Out of all the songs on all their albums, Letterbomb has always been my favourite too.
Spot on. Maybe add Stuart and the Ave
Good choices!
86 has a similar vibe as Letterbomb
Pulling Teeth was the song that guy was singing, not Eminus Sleepus. Both great tracks and Pulling Teeth was actually the first Green Day song I ever heard at a buddy's house and I loved it and fell in love with the band, was sick to see that be someone's answer
It's even more surprising that he remembered the name "Emenius Sleepus" that's a true fan
I was sitting there the whole time, like "PULLING TEETH, IT'S PULLING TEETH YOU FOOLS" lol
Most underappreciated song of dookie
I'm a hardcore Green Day fan, so I'll go with one no one picked.
Give me Novacaine. Probably their most underrated song.
Be braver and pick Nightlife 🤫
YES! That song is so underrated
Oh hell yea
This! It gives me the brain tinglies 🥹 definitely love pop rocks and Coke too for opposite vibes 😂
I went basic and went with Boulveard of Broken Dreams. That song is awesome. The hits on American Idiot are masterpieces. But again, they do have a ton of great deep cuts.
Band member: *choose a song*
Interviewer: AWWWHH, UMMMM, GREAT choice!
I could see Rise Against covering Are We the Waiting big time! I could see them cover a lot of their songs actually, especially that album.
I can already hear Tim singing the chorus
That was kinda unexpected but great choice, love that song
Blood, sex and booze is such an underrated banger
That song was used on Freddy got fingered, the most ridiculous movie to ever be created haha
Going to Pasalacqua, Panic Song, Haushinka, Church on Sunday... too many to pick only one.
J.A.R. and Who wrote Holden caulfield? are Green days best songs. So underrated
Was about to type same exact two songs
@@mikeamato2714 awesome 😃
One of my lies is another one of the best in their discography Imo and that's also on kerplunk, solid record
1. Letterbomb ❤️
2. Whatsername
3. Scattered
4. Haushinka
5. 80
Green Day is the band that helped me become the person I am today, so I had to pick a Top 5…
But there are so many honorable mentions: Waiting, ¡Viva La Gloria!, Murder City, Stuck With Me, Reject, Prosthetic Head, J.A.R., Bang Bang…. would probably be my others.
I watched this whole thing waiting for someone to mention Whatsername and nobody did!
"She said I can't take this place, I'm leaving it behind/She said I can't take this town, I'm leaving you tonight". The way that's sung is so damn satisfying to me, it's my favorite line from Letterbomb. Right next to the lil scream Billie does before the guitar solo
@@lavenderllamamusic Yes, one of the best parts of any GD song. It’s absolutely beautiful. 🥹
Whatsername is a W. They should've made it a single
Geek Stink Breath
Jesus of Suburbia. That song single-handedly described my teen years. I was a frustrated, depressed, and lost kid. I lived in a small rural town up until 8th grade, and I felt very alienated. I was misunderstood and often picked on for it. I moved to the suburbs in high school, and I made some new friends who I still stick with, but I still felt trapped. I don't think my friends understood either, but they didn't care since punk rock/pop-punk wasn't their thing. I'd often listen to it going skateboarding or riding my bike. 5 years later, I'm still listening to it
It’s Geek Stink Breath for me. All of the singles from Insomniac are incredible as well as that entire album.
Man of culture
I’m on a roll
In my opinion “21 Guns” is anything but a deep cut-that was one of the lead singles that was played on the radio all the time (and made an appearance in the Transformers movie soundtrack). A true deep cut that is truly underknown and underappreciated: “No One Knows” from Kerplunk. Beautiful bass playing, and one of the few Green Day songs that doesn’t just use straight power chords. And one of the few with Billie-Joe Armstrong singing in his low register.
I love you for this comment
Restless Heart Syndrome is underrated
before the lobotomy
I kind of think Before the Lobotomy as just a better Restless Heart Syndrome. RHS sounds a little stupid to me in my opinion. Especially with “I’ve got a really bad disease.”
Don’t know how many people will agree with this but it’s gotta be Welcome To Paradise, easily. it showcases the best parts of the band when they work together, especially in the bridge, the bass and drums building up feels like the moment when you’re on a rollercoaster and you reach the peak and once the last verse/chorus comes in it feels like getting hit by the biggest wave. The song is an absolute rager
Hard agree. I could write a paper on Welcome to Paradise. From the way it starts with "dear mother can you hear me whining" and ends with "dear mother can you hear me laughing" and i especially love the way the line "A gunshot rings out at the station" is delivered, followed by a slight pause in vocals as the guitars just keep going. It stands as a commentary on what its like to live in a rough city - a gunshot rings out at the station and life just keeps going, no stoppage and no moments of silence. I love that fucking song
Which version? Kerplunk or dookie?
@@ThisIsntMeGaming I think both are great but I prefer the dookie version more, most in part being that dookies production really emphasizes mikes bass and tres drums more so than kerplunk ever did. And Billie’s singing is much better in my opinion.
@@Mooskittl exactly, now you could call this just nostalgia bias but WTP is literally the first Green Day song I ever heard, talk about one hell of an introduction. It’s pretty much perfect from a musical and songwriting perspective. This band has had a permanent grip on me ever since.
Fuck yeah. It's my favorite too !
1. No One Knows
2. Rest
3. Christie Road
4. Welcome To Paradise
5. Longview
6. JAR
7. Basket Case
8. Give Me Novocaine
9. Wake Me Up When September Ends
10. Redundant
Absolute bangers all of them
People sleep on no one knows
1. Burnout
2. 2000 Light Years Away
3. Armatage Shanks
4. Jesus Of Suburbia
5. She
My top 5 anyway
Mine's got to be Scattered (The whole Nimrod album is their best stuff to me)
Same. First song that pops in mind also 😄
100% agree
The grouch as a person who liked greenday as a kid and has continued to like them into adulthood the grouch speaks to me
This grouch agrees
5:25 It was Pulling Teeth😭
My favourite song is probably either Coming Clean, Pulling Teeth, The Grouch, 2,000 Light Years Away, Welcome To Paradise, Christie Road, At The Library, or Going To Pasalacqua.
I can't deicide which is my favourite.
Edit: nvm, The Grouch is definitely my favourite song
The Grouch! Hell yeah!! 🙌🙌
The Grouch is up there for me too 🥹
Mike: "Wake me up when September ends.. a newer song"... My man it's almost 20 years old it ain't that new hahah
Little buddy doesn't know what the word newer means
I was going to leave the same sort of comment lol. I love how American Idiot is nearly 20 years old and people are still calling it “new Green Day” 😭
@@digitalbritt2k it's objectively the start of the second half of their career what do you mean 🤦♂️
Yeah I gasped. When I was in high-school a decade ago it felt like an old song.
Last night on Earth is underrated as well
For me my fav is: Welcome to Paradise. Honorable mentions include: When i Come Around, Nice Guys Finish Last, Brain Stew, and 86
One of My Lies, One for the Razorbacks, Jesus of Suburbia, JAR, Pulling Teeth, Coming Clean, Having a Blast, Stuart and the Ave, Westbound Sign, Castaway..... and tons more. Too hard to pick just one.
So difficult to chose only one! 86, Scattered, Forever Now, J.A.R., Horseshoes and Handgrenades & Christie Road are my favorite "hidden gems".
Scattereds my favorite song by them
Forever Now - absolutely love it. I ain't gonna stand in line no more!
Redundant has always been a cool one i wish they would play again live
21 guns is not a deep cut song lol its a Grammy nominated single that's a staple in the live performances 😂
The Broadway version is so beautifully covered that I recommend anyone who is a fan to listen to it
And it has like 300 million views on UA-cam lol
1. Give Me Novacaine
2. Prosthetic Head
3. J.A.R
4. Suffocate
5. Letterbomb
HM's to Going to Pasalacqua, Maria, Christie Road, and Missing You.
I'm sure there's others, but these were some of the first to pop in my head.
My favorite Green Day song is probably Restless Heart Syndrome. I know it's a very depressive ballad but the build up, the beat, the guitars, the wah pedal solo, the production and mixing.... I don't know, there's something with that song.
Dude the bridge gives me chills everytime! And I love the strings on the album, I agree it's super well produced and mixed
Mine too!!! I love this song so much!
Restless Heart Syndrome is underrated af. When it hits after “know your enemy” gives me chills every damn time. Easily my favorite from 21CB.
Hey didn't think this song would get a mention! Glad it did
Honestly I never liked that one. I can see why somebody would like it but it just feels stupid to me. Especially when it starts with “I’ve got a really bad disease”. Sounds like something a child would say when they get a fever. But yeah it’s not too bad.
Top 5:
1. Going to pasalacqua
2. Letterbomb
3. 80
4. Welcome to paradise
5. Scattared
Jesus of suburbia and coming clean came to my mind automatically. So awesome Vic Fuentes mentioned the warning album, such an underrated record.
Good Riddance (Time of Your Life) was the first Green Day song I ever heard, so it has a special place in my heart. But Minority, Warning, and St. Jimmy are bangers too!🤘🏼
JESUS OF SUBURBIA HANDS DOWN!! - The bohemian rapsody of punk!🤘🎸💯
Hell yes! “I’M THE SON OF RAGE AND LOVE!!!” Such an amazing track.
How did nobody mention this? It's INSANELY good!
Ties between a lot: hitchin’ a ride, are we the waiting, horseshoes and handgrenades
Jesus of suburbia
Agreed. I can barely listen to half of American Idiot anymore because of how much those singles were overplayed the several years after its release, but I always loved Jesus of Suburbia, Homecoming, and Whatsername.
Also, that one guy’s Ghostface shirt is fucking amazing. I need it haha.
YES
Christie road... Westbound sign... Stuck with me..
Undoubtedly Jesus of Suburbia
Hell yeah
Macy's Day Parade
Letterbomb has to be mine.
Also, the song that Citizen is talking about at 5:25 is Pulling Teeth off of Dookie.
‘No One Knows’. Just for that harmonising melody at the end is reason enough.
There's so many awesome songs to choose, but I'm going with Bovuleard of Broken Dreams. Oh and New Found Glory were right about Insominac being underrated. Awesome album.
Insomniac is wall to wall bangers. They went HARD AS FUCK for that one, and I remember it blowing my head off when it came out lol
my personal top 3 are Scattered, Longview, and Bang Bang
not enough love for 1039 smooth/kerplunk era! they may have wrote “bigger and better” songs following those records but none of them have the raw feel that i love so much about those first two
Green Day are my all time favorite band so that one is really hard for me. I’ve been listening to the Revolution Radio album a lot recently which is my favorite album of theirs. But specific songs I’d have to say ‘Stay the Night’! I adore that song for so many reasons!! It’s one of my favorite love songs too! I hope they play it this coming tour. I saw they’ve been throwing in trilogy songs!
When I come around .
Most of mine were already said in the video, so I'll just throw out Haushinka. Highly underrated. Also 2000 Light Years Away.
Haushinka is fire, and even more so the demo Version
I love how Jinx goes into Haushinka
Pulling Teeth is my favorite too
Having a blast and the grouch 🔥
I had the pleasure of seeing American Idiot on Broadway which was so much fun. It pretty much was a story with their greatest hits.
Macy's Day Parade is the best song they've ever written.
That's funny that one of the bands called Wake Me Up When September Ends a newer song even though it's almost 20 years old. I guess I still think of American Idiot onward as being "newer" Green Day. I really wish someone would have thrown 'The Grouch' in there for fun.
Basket Case was the first Green Day song I've ever heard, it's my favorite and also I believe it's their best song.
Songs like 80, Pulling Teeth, When I Come Around, J.A.R., Scattered, Jinx, Blood Sex and Booze, Waiting, and Whatsername are up there in my top 10.
“i’m a dookie girl” 😂 PHRASING cmon
The lack of letterbomb is killing me
Letterbomb is Billie’s favourite Green Day track IIRC.
Road to Acceptance! The live version off that ‘94 Barcelona concert - so powerful. 🔥
This is so tough as someone who was once _obsessed_ with this band's music as a kid. They're the sole reason I got into music in general and what got me into playing instruments. Best album though, Insomniac for me. All hitters! Plus it's where Mike shines as the MVP with his crisp basslines that really stand out the most compared to other albums.
I just love seeing how many different answers there are here. And for every one I read I go "damn, that's a great one". Really speaks to the caliber of the band.
I was never really into music as a kid, but when i listened to BASKET CASE for the first time i instantly felt like i needed to learn how to play the guitar, and so i did. I've played in a lot of bands and made many friends (musicians) during my teen years because of this song. It changed my life.
Tim McIlrath is such a wise dude!
As a bass player, Welcome to paradise is my top. That line in the verses and the solo are my all time favorite 😍
F.O.D. is super underrated one I never see talked about. Just the way it goes from a quiet and acoustic to loud and electric around two minutes in, is just so badass. It's also really, really catchy. Another one I'd say is Who Wrote Holden Caulfield?, I've always related to it's lyrics and I love the book it's based on, so it's an obvious choice for me.
A lot of great choices in this video
Wake me up when September ends for me
I love the fact that also Tim McIlrath (Rise Against) respect and listened to Green Day.
Take this GD haterz! 😉🤚🏻
They’ve opened for Green Day before
I have a VERY long list of favorite Green Day songs, but it makes me happy that people mentioned Scattered in the comments. I always thought that song didn't get enough attention.
2:15 Damn, looked like Deryck was about to say more and y’all just cut him off 😭
“Before The Lobotomy” is one of the song I liked most
It's between Christie Road and Paper Lanterns for me. Both of those songs really have so much emotional and sentimental value to me.
It’s either scattered the grouch or Stuart in the avenue for me
Whatsername always hits hard 🥺I also love Letterbomb, 80, Stuck with Me, Youngblood, X-kid (underrated!), Homecoming, When I come around...the list goes on.
2000 light years away. Absolutely love that song
Guy was thinking of pulling teeth not eminus sleepus
Waiting for Greenday interview. I haven't seen them interviewed for long, talk about themselves, and their favourite songs of other pop punk bands.
Waiting, Castaway or Jesus of Suburbia. Honestly surprised with the love Warning got from all of the groups, but it is my personal favorite album of theirs 🤜🏻🤛🏻
Castaway? Man of culture.
Green Day has always been my favorite band. I love a lot of their songs with that being said. But She will always be my favorite. Runner ups are Going to Pasalacqua, Burnout, Walking Contradiction, Warning, Minority, Waiting, hard to pick but I have a huge love for the song She.
5:27 Pulling Teeth :)
Yep.
Definitely Homecoming
Stuck with me and When I come around ❤
Paper Lanterns is one of the best songs and when they play it live the energy of the crowd is unreal, also Christie Road is a very good song to.
It's nice to know that members of our favorite bands are also trying *so hard* not to come off as posers. "I want to pick this obviously popular song but don't want to lose my street cred."
My dude (or dudette). Pick Holiday and own it. Truly you cannot go wrong with the catalog.
Know Your Enemy. I love the guitar solo end chorus of this song.
Hitchin a ride is one of my favorites
Murder City > Letterbomb > Stuck With Me > Desensitized > Lights Out > their cover of 'I Don't Wanna Know If You're Lonely'
Mine has to be Jesus of Suburbia. It’s just so good I have no words.
never expected anyone to choose are we the waiting
Can't wait for the new album saviors i think it will ring in the third wave for green day
The song named he was looking for is "Pulling Teeth". One of MY favorites as well
I love castaway its so underrated
I was born in '84. So when Dookie came out in '94, it was my first real introduction to "punk". Changed my life. So I would probably pick a song off that album. But I think Jesus Of Suburbia objectively is their best song.
1039/smooth - judges daughter
Kerplunk - christie road
Dookie - she
Insomniac - stuart and the ave
Nimrod - take back
Warning - misery
American idiot - whatsername
21st century breakdown - murder city
Uno - let yourself go
Dos - makeout party
Tre - x kid
Revolution radio - bang bang
Father of all - fuck every song on that album/oh yeah
No Pride & Westbound Sign. Westbound Sign was my first green day song I ever heard in a cars tv spot in 2005? I think. (I was either 6 or 7 yrs old) And many years later that's become one of my favorites along with No Pride.
Tie between
Waiting and
Wake me up when September ends
Highkey clapping with glee to see 'Whatsername', 'Haushinka' and 'No One Knows' getting so much love in the comments, as those are some of my favorites! Also wanna throw out 'Misery', 'Say Goodbye', and 'Rusty James'. Bonus being 'Scumbag' because 'Somebody let you in here/scumbag with permission' makes me laugh every time.
nice guys finish last is sick
I like that "Wake Me Up When September Ends" is referred to as a 'new' song when it's almost 20 years old.
When I Come Around and Longview will always be anthems from my teen years, but Jesus of Suburbia is one of my favorites - the whole thing, not just one section.
Going to Pasalacqua, 2000 Light Yesrs Away, Paper Lanterns, The Judge's Daughter, Rest, Coming Clean, Armatage Shanks, 86, Nice Guys Finish Last...so many more.
1- Basket case, no doubt.
2- time of your life
3- King for a day / holiday
4 - One of my lies / She
5- Church on sunday / walking contradition
Forever Now from Revolution Radio
I love this song. And I wish they'd continue playing it live.
Having a Blast 🧨
The band Citizen were singing lyrics from the song "Pulling Teeth".
Having a blast and no pride. Greatest!
Literally anything
The Host : 😮 💦 🤯‼️‼️
He's not wrong though. SOOOOOOO many great songs to chose from.
