Alternative Press ranked every single Green Day song (all 170 of them) from worst to best. As Green Day's #1 for 15 years running, I decided to react to the list and chime in with all of my emotions towards the placements! Thanks for watching/liking :)

#GreenDay #AltPress #Reaction
What a bizarre list. What shocked you the most?! 🤭 Also thx to Ampulla for sponsoring this video, buy their cool Bluetooth lamp here: amzn.to/2TPAZcQ
PS, brownie points for anyone who can name all the songs shown playing on my phone during the ad read 😎
The broadway version of 21 guns speaks to me a lot more, but I also have a huge soft spot for the song because it was my introduction to Green Day in the first place.
Being a former bandmate of the author of this article/ranking, I actually am not surprised by your reaction to his opinions haha. But he usually has good reasons for his rankings, even if I don’t always agree with them.
i think sassafras roots and going to pasalacqua deserve better than that. also never put she down it is my ultimate FAVOURITE SONG and actually a little disappointed that letterbomb got number 1.
@@greydoritos sassafras roots and going to pasalacqua are also one of my favs, too bad john doesnt like those songs
I was shocked that my 2 favorite songs (being Know Your Enemy and Father of All...) were both ranked under 100
1:10 I was really hoping he’d say “maybe I should rank every Green Day song”
Maybe one day
yea
Same
Hopefully this comment gets so popular he does
Alt Press: *ranks every Green Day album*
Jon, a big Green Day fan: you dare oppose me, mortal?
I see ARTV. I see Green Day. I click as fast as humanly possible. It’s a simple life I live
😂😂
hey bro i just wanna say that we share the same life style
Practically Good me too😂
Same
That day hasn't come yet
Peacemaker is AWESOME. End of conversation.
Yes it is
YES, if is so underrated.
It's also stuipid easy to play on guitar if you use a capo.
This is a bop.
Came here to see Jon drag AltPress, and was not disappointed...
Okay, Letterbomb, Whatsername, and Waiting being in the top 10 absolutely blew me away, because all 3 would be in my top 10. I gotta give it to them for not putting one of the singles in those spots (I don't really could Waiting as a single, even if it is, because it never got the recognition).
HOW is Dirty Rotten Bastards so low??? I have a feeling there’s gonna be more disappointing entries here.
Edit: Graffitia, Panic Song, Castaway, Stray Heart, Forever Now, She’s a Rebel and St. Jimmy are WAY too low in my opinion
Edit 2: Fire, Ready, Aim is too high
Liam Ackerman agreed
Liam Ackerman I agree and if it was Father of All it would have made more sense than Fire, Ready, Aim being that high
nahhhhh that song is mmeh they put it in the right place
Uptighr
how is kill the dj so down
Was waiting for Letterbomb the entire time. Felt so good another person loves the song as much as I do
Scattered got robbed, top song on Nimrod for me, hands down.
Actually Sassafrass Roots too, I get She is considered better but I'd put Sassafrass above She.
Although its great to see my two favourite songs from American Idiot in the top 3, althought I don't know if they're my top 3 GD songs.
That Generic Canadian agreed. I think Scattered should have been Top 25 at least. It’s also my favorite off of Nimrod.
Nimrod robbery is the actual name of this list
@@vivilover9409 true
Scattered did get robbed...
great rif
Gotta say, I think this list is comparable to the Father of All album. It starts off scary, and expectations are lowered, but it really pulled through.
Doesn't mean there's any chance in hell that their placement of Dirty Rotten Bastards or Stray Heart is acceptable, but still.
kill the dj's placement was unexceptable
They did insomniac so dirty
Dookies Welcome to Paradise is better. Fight me irl.
Cowol Jar Woff Yeah it’s much better when the guitars aren’t going into shitty amps.
@@thereverse-flash9942 I mean, I see what you're saying, but personally I think the shitty amps from the Kerplunk version more fit the mood of the song, especially with the lyrics expressing such a run down place.
Asunder I agree
i actually find the bridge kind of bit in kerplunks version better but thats my opinion
Better? Yes. Do I prefer the kerplunk version? Also yes.
“Wow, that was actually kind of good”
-Squidward
I swear these companies have got to stop with these ranked articles they're absolute garbage. Ngl the only good thing about these lists are your reactions to them. Allow me to grab some popcorn and prepare to share your pain as our favorites get tossed to the bottom.
@Your Average Music Person Agreed, I know this sounds super harsh but these big publications simply don’t know shit about music and should not be able to ever review an album, Pitchfork’s existence solidifies that
Your Average Music Person it made you click and they got payed for it. 🤷♂️
i totally agreed with this list until they put Platypus that low
what bout dirty rotten bastards?
"i love listening to relaxing music before bed" *plays insomniac from start to finish*
Alt Press is really horrible. I mean, seriously, Imagine Dragons is pop rock. Not alternative.
It's not an ARTV comment section if one of the top 5 isn't a cheap shot at Imagine Dragons lmao. When did they say that anyway?
Pop Rock and as time passes even that tag is generous.
@Franco 19 They haven’t even been pop rock since Smoke + Mirrors
@@iliketrains3495 sorry I just recently saw a post about a post from Alt Press pretty much worshipping them and I got annoyed.
In a way they can be considered alternative on like night changes.
I was so happy to see Letterbomb at #1! It’s my second favorite Green Day song, and East Jesus Nowhere is my favorite so I wish it was higher.
East Jesus Nowhere is the best track on 21st Century Breakdown for sure. 21st Century Breakdown is the most underrated album and it's also the album that got me into Green Day.
Oh god, I cringed so hard when you mentioned that Alt Press is considered the leading source for punk and underground (wtf 🤣) music, that’s like saying that The All American Rejects and Avril Lavigne are the defining punk artists of the 21st century and this is coming from someone that is a pretty big fan of those artists
Pfft- imagine AAR and Avril as the centuries leading punk artists I can't-
@Your Average Music Person Yeah, because nothing says anti-establishment and sticking it to the man like songs with titles such as My Paper Heart and My Happy Ending
I like your username lol
@Meeran Qureshi I wasn’t talking about pop punk, I was talking about actual punk rock (Stuff like Bad Religion, NOFX, The Offspring (To an extent), Against Me!, The Clash, Descendants, Anti Flag, Dead Kennedys, Minor Threat, Rancid, hell even the first 3 Blink 182 records) Avril and AAR both have some pop punk tendencies for sure, but they are far, far from punk
Bring Back KP, Animated Obviously / Avrilonfire182 I wouldn’t consider their first 3 albums punk rock. I mean, All The Small Things, punk rock, like cmon.
I was happy to see Whatshername so high because Whatshername is my favorite GD song. (I also just like any song that has to do with Whatshername)
Same, number 1 Green Day song forever.
Whatsername is criminally underrated. Just sayin'. Should have had its own single. However, I think 'American Idiot' is up there with Queen's 'A Night At The Opera' as one of the best albums of all time.
@@nickwilliams6621 I would call it "underrated", it is part of one of the most sucessfull albums of the 2000s.
I freaked that Peacemaker is 11!!!! Its one of my favorites besides static age from that album!!!!! I'll like forgive some of my other favorites being low on the list, but PEACEMAKER
I love Restless Heart Syndrome, and I would indeed have it in my top 40.
jc1424 😮 Restless Heart Syndrome is all time favourite Green Day song
Top 20 for me probably. One of my favorites on 21CB.
Expected the Uno, Dos, Tre slander a mile away, I actually really like those albums, they are a lot of fun, nowhere near as bad as some say
I love those albums too,Warning and 21st century are my top 2 favorites for albums but I was expecting the slander for uno dos and tre.
Bring Back Kim Possible, Animated Obviously listen to Johns the playlist on his Spotify it’s a pretty nice way to cut the bad tracks from the trilogy
Bring Back Kim Possible, Animated Obviously the trilogy is also on my list. I just don’t feel like my time will be well spent with three fairly-shunned Green Day albums released in the same year
Edit: just noticed your comment on BMTH, I remember when Jon did a video on that the ones I said in the comments were Green Day and BMTH 🤷♂️
Dos is fucking awesome!
TundraL5Z I love them. I love all Green Day albums, and I can say they aren’t their best work and would’ve been better if it was one album, but they were the first albums that came out when I started to get into them. I literally got into them in early to mid 2012 when I was 11/12, and then to hear that they were releasing 3 new albums just made my entire year
Another thing you have to keep in mind with the amount of green day albums that exist, too 50 is basically a normal artists top 10
I'm personally sooooo happy to see 21 Guns on top 5!! This song is like my second favourite Green Day song! But, of course, I was so mad to see Dirty Rotten Bastards so low in the ranking! I agree with you, this song is perfection!!
21 Guns is my favorite song of all time and I'm happy they at least got something right with putting it in the top 5. What's your #1 GD song?
@@tvbnine793 I'm sorry for not answering you earlier, I didn't notice your comment before today! The only GD song that is higher than 21 Guns in my top favourites is Good Riddance! That song is the first GD song I loved, and at that time it was the only one I liked because I wasn't into that Punk vibe yet, so that's why it's my top favourite! I always loved that song a lot!!
Welp, if previous lists have taught as anything, I'm awaiting you being mad, i love these vids john, keep them up. now let me finish
Stuck With Me is criminally underrated..
@SpicyJalapeno62 Games I don't have the slightest clue. It`s easily one of the better songs on Insomniac!
I absolutely love Waiting. One of my favorites
Same
I BEEN WAITING A LONG TIME FOR THIS VIDEO TO COME BY
Your Green Day and TOP videos are my favorites!
I'm so happy GMN and Peacemaker made the top twenty, I wish they were a bit higher but that's just because they're my favorite songs
“Rest” isn’t that bad it’s defiantly top 50
I love Rest. It has a slow vibe that contrasts from the rest of the album.
It's quite good, the execution is bad. It's better if it received a country-esque treatment
Rest is definitely not their worst. I will say that.
@Flynntendo Oh dear..
Ikr I love rest
I’ve been on this channel for a week and I love it
5:04 you know we are in for some shit
And we went from extreme anger to sky high happiness wow
I was very happy to see armatage shanks so high because insomniac is my favorite album but it’s underrated so I was very happy to see a song off of that album so high
Where are jinx, haushinka, don’t leave me “Green Day”, paper lanterns and many others
Nimrod and being forgotten are an iconic duo and its not fair 😭
Poprocks and coke isn't on the list eithee
@@hk_4014 'Poprocks and Coke' is from a compilation and apparently [despite 1,039 Smoothed Out Slappy Hours being a compilation of tracks from 1000 Hours and 39/Smooth] they weren't doing compilations. That's why Maria, all of Shenanigans, J.A.R, Born In The USA and a few other weren't on here.
i couldn't see lazy bones ;-;
There’s no way they actually listened all of
these songs if they put Oh love above having a blast
Having a Blast so underrated and wayyy better than Oh Love
I was very surprised to see Letterbomb at number 1. It’s my personal favorite song. And I was expecting it to be around 15-20, but when we got to the top 3 and I hadn’t seen it I got really excited and honestly, I can’t believe it. Also Dookie’s version of Welcome to Paradise is better.
Me: sees this horrible list and aslo remembers DOOM Eternal is out
Also me: 🎵Calling all demons this is the season next stop is therapy. We're the retarded and the broken hearted, the season of misery🎵
Some of the reactions are just 🔥
Three answers to address plus one impute.
1.)- I preferr The ORIGINAL Kerplunk Version of Welcome To Paradise better then it's REMASTERED Dookie Version because of the funky vibe it brings.
2.)- What made me angry is with The Judge's Daughter being ranked low at 161.
3.)- What made me happy is how Jesus Of Suburbia was ranked high at 4.
4.)- The list did pretty ok, so my feelings are mixed and that's why it deserves a thumbs side ways.
"I need a haircut and we're all in quarantine for the next however long."
Hearing that a hear later is hauntingly sad
Love your love for green day and we have the same favourite songs subbed!
good riddance was the last song they played at my first concert i went to just last month, so it holds a very sentimental place in my heart
These videos are always roller coasters 🤣
Thanks for taking my video suggestion, Jon.
I really liked Fire Ready Aim, but I saw them live in St Louis and they played it outside. It was cold as hell but it was so cool hearing that song played live
i am so insulted by the little girl and stray heart and like who wrote this article bro howwww
Extremly subjective opinion:
Haushinka is the best Green Day song! There, I said it!
Yeah, awesome song. Reminds me to Whatsername.
I wouldn’t say number one but definitely top 20
YES jinx and haushinka are literally my favourite, somethings about the way billies vocals are in this song just makes me replay it about 100 times
Dirty Rotten Bastards is one of my favorite Green Day songs. Their ranking of it is criminal. I almost want to do my own 170 now...
The guitar solo in The Judge's Daughter is literally my favorite Green Day solo of all time
Trio and Father of All fans we must rise!
Watch me get stoned for saying I like Kill the Dj. Also so many of these songs were ranked totally wrong. Stray Heart, Let Yourself Go, Fire Ready Aim, Oh Yeah, Oh Love, Revolution Radio, She’s a Rebel, Kill the Dj-and so much more!
Edit: WHY IS SAINT JIMMY RANKED THAT POORLY IT DESERVES BETTER!!!!
I’m with you. I love these albums. I wouldn’t say they are necessarily my favourite Green Day albums but they are still solid. I just love how radically different Father of All is for them. I think people sometimes take music way too seriously, because imo FOAM is just a fun time.
Happy to see some of my top 10 favorite Green Day songs also on the top 10 on this list.
My favorite Green Day song will probably always be 21 Guns but that's probably definitely a minority opinion
Hope you do your list!
14:58 love the Stanley reference!!
YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEES MY FAVORITE GREEN DAY SONG OF ALL TIME GOT FIRST PLACE! I'm so happy to see that I'm not the only one that ABSOLUTELY loves this song!
Nobody:
Jaded: *ight imma head out*
I know you did your top 20s and stuff, but I would love see your ranked list of all there songs!
Know Your Enemy is one of my favorite Green Day track
Noah Garcia Same
I don't understand the Know Your Enemy hate. It's repetitive yeah, but it sounds punk to me
Thank you. Someone that actually agrees with me.
Great video! The list is interesting, mine would be a bit different though haha :P
You have the same Killers wallpaper on your phone as me, love it.
🖤
Ha, same.
I just wanna know where my personal favorite track all by myself is, tru songwriting talent, able to convey such emotion with so few dynamics, incredible.
Homecoming is my favorite Green Day song so seeing it in top thirty is enough to satisfy me
Hey I have that same T-shirt! Nice taste lol haha. I love it
I love the song I was there. The meaning is so easy to find out. I mostly listen to the old stuff and a couple of the new ones
I think we have the same taste! all the first besides Rest I absolutely love. I do think you have pay closer attention to the lyrics to fully appreciate how awesome their are. but I think that just describes Green Day in general, I think they are underrated in the same vein as Prince, yeas they get a lot of love but just not enough.
Thank you!
This was an awesome list. There are a bunch of placements that I differ on by a magnitude of 150+ spots (80 is No. 2 on my list, Rest is in my top 50), but I get excited any time I come across a list that surprises me in the top 25, and you can tell whoever made this list is a serious fan of the band and wasn’t just going through the motions.
Rusty James is excellent, I just love almost all Green Day songs
Nice phone wallpaper :)
If I was able to charge my phone wirelessly & there was a button 2 change the color of the light I'd buy 1 asap. I love anything that plays music & can be used as a night light.
They’ll always be one of my favs because dookie was one of my first cds ever
Yes, these lists are very hard to read because in all honesty we want every song in the top 100!
They never mentioned Youngblood, thats one of my favorites
They did. “Some content may be cut for time” the message that plays at the beginning of every video I do like this means just that...I don’t include every single song or else the video would be an hour long lol
Beyond ARTV what did you think of that songs ranking
Jon, I'm sorry, but I couldn't finish this video. I honestly don't know how you made it through reading that list without partially demolishing your house in protest. When I saw how low they ranked The Judges Daughter I knew the list was utter shit and didn't want to suffer through it. The guitar solo from that song is has been my ringtone ever since I figured out how to make a custom ringtone way back in the day when smart phones were just becoming a thing. To see the utter disrespect for one of my favorite songs from 39/Smooth is infuriating lol.
I know it might be a lot
Of work but I'd love seeing you making that list yourself
I genuinely want to have a conversation with the writer...
I want to give the person who made this list a hug and drop kick them at the same time
My personal top 10:
#10 Castaway
Coming Clean
One For The Razorbacks
One Of My Lies
2000 Light Years Away
Burnout
Paper Lanterns
Armatage Shanks
Going To Pasalacqua
#1 Stuck With Me
HM(in no order): No Pride, Jinx, Jesus of Suburbia, Sugar Youth, Sassafras Roots, In the End, Minority, American Idiot, plus many more
Basket case is an undying song here in my country the Philippines every single radio station played it and also American idiot and Blvd of broken dreams.
UPDATE. NVM I REALIZED A COUPLE DAYS AGO THAT HE TRIMED THE VIDEO SO IT WOULDN'T BE LONG. My mistake and my apology
Awesome video Jon!!! Agreed, that list is, well, a joke :D
Can you do a video on what you think the trilogy albums would look if they were condensed down into one album (12 songs)
Letterbomb is my fav haha. I'm legit happy now
Hahah. Words I might have ate is not only one of my favorite Green Day songs, but one of my favorite songs ever.
Whoever made this list is crazy I’ve never known about I was there and 80 till 4 days ago now I love it and for them to say it’s trash then can due
Say goodbye is my favorite song from that album
I haven’t bought an ap magazine in a while especially since the hot topic I go to doesn’t sell them anymore so that says something abt both hot topic and ap
Did the author include Who Wrote Holden Caulfield? That song is so good tbh
They did--it was #97, above Let Yourself Go and below Dominated Love Slave
I get there are probably many reasons why it didn't make the cut, but my personal favorite track, When Its Time, wasn't on the list at all and that really gets me.
They completely left off When It's Time and Fortunate Son, which were the only 2 songs written specifically for the American Idiot musical about a decade ago. When It's Time is a criminally underrated track, it's super melodic and romantic and has kinda become my relationship song cuz my 2nd date with my now gf was us going to see American Idiot at a local theater and the When It's Time scene was one of my favorite parts of the entire show
Pss, just as a heads-up, Favorite Son wasn't written specifically for the musical: it was intended to be on American Idiot, but it didn't make the cut and ended up being on Japanese pressings of the album as a bonus track, on Rock Against Bush vol. 2, and as a B-side to 21 Guns before being used in the musical.
TVBnine fortunate??????
@@donvid8969 ah I see. But they still left it out of the ranking alongside when it's time
I've personally out grown green day for the most part but this list pissed me off so much I wanna go listen to all their good albums again
Totally see where you're coming from with Rusty James, but for me I've always really liked it! Probably because since I'm still living in my hometown, the 'when there's no one left around' chorus hits me harder, and it's definitely best during late-night drives alone. The acoustic version he played live when he was touring for one of his side projects is ten times better than the album version though -I think it perfectly captures the mood.
I’m a really green day fan and I can not believe that Bouncing off the wall is on the 113th place. It’s an amazing song but it’s also very underrated😟
Unpopular opinion... Father of all... Has gotten better over time 😅
Can't believe my number 1 is the same, didn't expect that at all.
Rusty James, judges daughter, and don’t leave me are amazing
Seeing my favorite track at no. 1 makes me so happy
Bro can you send me the link for that t-shirt, I desperately want it but can't find it
