I first heard this when I was in hospital recovering from cancer surgery.
I added it to the music for my funeral, fortunately I haven't needed it yet!😉
Hope all is ok with you…..going through a very similar thing right now.
Alan and Mark....Hope you're both doing OK. Keep fighting and keep us updated!!!
Oh bless you guys - excellent choice guys - hope you’re both well x
Just to say that I have finally been told that I need no further treatment ❤
Fantastic news!!!
This is an absolute masterclass in musical interpretation. Joy Division's original is a classic pop song, but by slowing it down and putting the emphasis on the lyric, Tabor & Oysterband almost created a whole new piece of music. The subject matter has been covered countless times (Elvis' "I've lost you" comes to mind) but Jones &Tabor's performance conveys the quiet sadness of a dying relationship like no other song I can think of. "Why is the bedroom so cold? You turn away on your side. Is my timing that flawed? Has respect run so dry?" The overwhelming feeling is not of pain, or anger, or bitterness, but emptiness. If Ian Curtis had stayed with us, I'm sure he'd have approved of this version.
I think that June's long established commitment to folk song is able to give the "pop song" its proper status as a damn fine song that, once heard, can never be forgotten,
Dear June, I love to hear you singing. Thank you for your singing and your wonderful voice, It touches me so deep. Thank you.
With love from Germany. Joachim
The original was for me in my 20s. This...this is for me in my 50s. It’s so, so very different.
Even though I'd heard the original a million times I never really felt the lyrics until I heard this version. Some songs just sound better slower in my opinion. The original is still amazing though.
I love the original by Joy Division, so I had my reservations when this version was recommended to me by someone very special. Wow. I'm blown away! Utterly sublime. I love, love, love it! :-)
In the whole of my music-listening experiences I am, and have been, convinced, that June Tabor has the finest and most authoritative female folk - singing voice in the whole of the English - Speaking world Sam Waylen
They did this in Bexhill last night. Utterly awesome
Busy year lots going on good & bad, alone christmas eve, the stars above, a party down the street, fireworks, heard this, cried. Great day anyway
Everytime I hear this I think "I'm not going to cry to it this time" and everytime I do. Only certain songs do that to you and this one will always do it to me .
The same emotion to me
An amazing interpretation of a classic song. Brings tears to my eyes every time
What a masterpiece this performance is.
Very touching version of this classic. I have some reservations about officially released cover versions as I think quite a lot of them don't add anything new or better to a song and just benefit from the original. But this here is an example that you can cover a song give a wonderful new life to it. Great work!
this has actual made me love the song again, some fresh air on the tune
This is a song that no one should cover, because the original was perfect... and almost ever cover is boring... but this... this is the real deal
The difference is that most people sing the words, but June Tabour understands them, and adds more.
Thank goodness they didn't take notice of you - this is a wonderful cover.

The lyrics tend to be lost in the original.
Songs should be sung. Otherwise they wither and die.
one of the best cover versions ever
Some songs are so good even a change in arrangement can give them a new life, for Curtis ( and I'm of a similar vintage, and not to far away either ) a young and failing marriage, here two people Who have been together for decades realising They have little in common anymore...frankly beautiful.
Just saw them do this on Jules Holland - stunning. Made me shudder like the original did all those years ago.
Nobody could fail to be moved by this! Sublime.
A joy. And clearly filmed at one of our favourite hug venues, Union Chapel in Islington.
What beauty and presence June has.
it is/was/will always be an amazing song and at its heart is a beautiful folk song for the people....pure class
This is the greatest cover version of the greatest song ever
A beautiful blend of voices on this sublime cover.
Brilliantly filmed. Follows the music so well. Good job!
june tabor ... fabulous singer
The original cannot be bettered. But this is a fantastic cover. Brilliant.
Check out their version of All tomorrow's parties...several members of Oyster Band were previously responsible for Daytrip to Bangor as Fiddler's Dram.
That was an amazing performance of a completely historic song.
Luv and Peace.
Thanks Gordon.
:-)
Mind blowing! It was no better sung
This song gains such pathos when sung by people in late middle age.
BTW, just from this video, June Tabor needs to be cast somewhere in Game of Thrones,.
She would be killed anyway. :-)

Yea, but she would take a few down with her.
First time I’ve heard this version, beautiful 💜
Chills
Such a beautifully unhurried version.
beautiful version, I watched almost all of the covers this is one of the best
i was not sure at first.. but I love how this is sung in full emotion as it is a very emotional song.. however the original is understated and static... but this is full blood emotion done very very good...
Wonderful !
I love folk and goth and industrial so much and it's so cool to see crossovers where I wouldn't have expected there to be one!!! June is amazing. Check out her work on Peter Bellamy's "The Transports" album. Tragic, poignant, sublime.
It's freaking brilliant.
The original is visceral enough given the terrible personal tragedy that was to follow soon after Joy Division recorded it - but this version is absolutely heartrendingly sublime. I just wish Ian Curtis himself were alive to hear his masterpiece rendered so achingly beautifully and respectfully. June Tabor and Joy Division are of course poles apart musically, but what an utterly phenomenal piece of song selection and interpretation. Would love June to tackle some of Nirvana's songs in the same stripped-down style as the iconic 1994 MTV Unplugged concert.
I prefer this to the original. But I never saw joy Division live. I have seen Oyster Band several times. They may be folk, but they really rock. That lead singer has a voice that moves me to my boots.
Stunning
Beautiful.
How do you change perfection, watch this video and find out, 2 versions of one epic song.
Love the video, have just bought the single from iTunes - hope it makes the charts!
Stunning!
Iconic song written in August 1979 by Ian Curtis and Joy Division.
'Love Will Tear Us Apart' - the only Joy Division song that everyone seems to know. Please listen to the other epics....
(Decades? New Dawn Fades? Ceremony? Transmission?)
I like Ceremony by Galaxie 500 but other than Love Will Tear Us Apart I don't like Joy Division... not dissing them. Just didn't connect with me
Simply Beautiful
Magnificent
This is the saddest song I have ever heard.
Yes, and lyrics straight from the heart too - Ian Curtis was a tortured soul.. sad story.
Awesome
This is a stunning rendition of the classic by Joy Division. And while the original still captivates me, this is my favorite version. There's something about stripping down the song to the bare essence that packs a greater emotional punch.
Joy Division would be proud of this version!
June Tabor is at The Queens Hall Edinburgh with Quercus on 24th October
Great version. June sings it so well. Totally different from the Ian Curtis original.
This is how every cover should be made
nice
When love messes up a friendship
Ian Curtis and the breakup with his wife. Devastating.
Lush, beautiful, desolate .
Noel Gallagher listen and learn😅
Sunglasses.
Beautiful.
