Congrats! I think you're so right - when you run a 100 milers, you have to take care and resolve even the "small" problem, otherwise it balloon out of control before the end. It's not like shorter distance where sometimes it's best to just ignore.
Epic! Been looking forward to this video for months. I flipped one of those switches around mile 80 in 2021. Didn’t care which one of those jabby rocks got me, was just sick of the trail telling me what to do and I got pumped up and ran “fast”. Way to grind through it! RLTW
Mad respect! Love your grit, humour and attitude. At age 50 and still working up to my first marathon I don’t envisage ever running 100 miles, but stories like yours of pushing limits and through pain and discomfort are inspiring. Thanks for sharing 👍
Yesss! Dude- I’ve been waiting for months for you to tell me it was the thrash I thought it was. What a freakin’ revenant! Thanks for putting this together
Yes I'm excited for the challenge! It will be my first "official" 100 miler. I did just run 31 hours and 106 miles for my 31st birthday in March. So I at least have a little idea what to expect :) and thanks to your video! I get to see a lot of the course before I go.
Nice work, Wayne! I know we’ve chatted a little over the years but I didn’t realize we essentially started right next to each other (tan hat filming with my trekking pole at the start). Way to work through that tropical storm and those ridiculous conditions! I also ended up lending runners headlamps and USB power banks so they could make it through the 2nd night so you were in good company there. Way to get it done! 💪🏼
Wow dude. Loved your recap of the race. I have my first 100 miler coming up in August and am collecting perspectives. Adding your positive attitude to the bank but maybe not the pushing past aid and issues. Much love.
Really fun recap! I did the 100k. It's a pity that the weather on Friday didn't continue through the weekend. But it wouldn't have been nearly the adventure, both internal and external, that it turned out to be. Fortunately for me I trained in the mud and rain in Vermont all year so the daytime running was business as usual. But the downhills through the rocks at night were slow going. And I got stung by a wasp. I laughed at the idea of "sprinting" to the finish. I did the same. I can only imagine what it actually looked like.
I usually use squirrels nut butter but I'll check that out! The only thing I remember from Florida is slamming into the ground and running into the woods, lol! RLTW!
Finally. An ultra runner with a sense of humor. Haha thanks for the laughs!
@@jamiekennard6309 hahaha humor helps drag me out of the ultra DARKNESS

It's funny how that switch works, lol! I got un-finished business with that race... might not be this year, but I'll BE BACK!

Hahaha that was a battle! The trail community is the best. I've gotten bailed out from the community so many times!

Awesome! That specificity of training can really change how a race goes!
