    Its so refreshing to see a video that clearly explains why you should not do this at home. If you want a professional job then pay a professional. Full marks for trying though.

    Hello Jon,
    Great video. That is always the mark of pros, like the lads at Fresh Layers. They make a process look easy and it lulls the rest of us into thinking it is easy and giving it a go.

    Dust in the air but also dirt probably on the bottom of the sheet of paper the ppf was on. The paper side was on the bonnet. They waxy paper always seems to become statically charged attracting dirt. That probably a way dirt got onto the bonnet. Its bloody hard. I've just given it to my ppf installer to do who is an absolute legend 🙌 shout out to Justin at exclusive car care. 🙌

    Applying anything like PPF or Painting is easy, it’s prep work before which is key to get right to achieve a good finish.

    I love detailing as a hobbiest but I would pay to have someone do this to my car.

    I think they sabotaged you by putting those sheets on a dusty table so that when you laid the sheets on the car with the backing side down, it deposited thousands of little dust specks onto the panels. You would probably need to have some canned air and dust off the table first, then dust off each sheet outside before even bringing them in, then carefully wash both sides with the backing still on. You also probably needed to do another rinse off of the car once you drove it into the building. I think they also always do at least a quick fine polish of all surfaces to ensure any stuck actual paint contaminants come off.

    I like to know how they stop dust in the air landing on the paintwork before the film is laid down. I couldn't even avoid this happended when I put the screen protector on my mobile phone.

      Spray and wipe of the backing of the ppf before peeling off. Also spray and wipe.off the panel with the squeegee straight before putting it on the panel, wet everything. Clothes, floor, ppf around the panel.

      I think that room when properly prepped and filtration system is turned on is basically like the same sort of cleanroom environment they use for professional car painting. They probably mist all surfaces of that entire room front to back, sweep out all the dust, then blow filtered air through it through filters for a few hours until as much dust as possible is trapped against the filters

    I know it's unrelated to this video but what are your thoughts on snow foaming and jet washing the inside of the engine bay? Just saw you riding under the bonnet and thought i I'd ask. Brilliant channel BTW!

  • @theredscourge
    @theredscourge Місяць тому +1

    Prediction before watching the video: Bumper and complex curves are going to be hell, rest of car not so bad.
    Edit: Yeah pretty much right I guess, with the added caveat of that you probably need to spend more time decontaminating your workspace, probably 2-3 stages of wetting down every surface top to bottom and getting all dust out, which means most people wont be able to do it in their home garage
    That being said, how much time did you take beforehand to research the techniques? This would be really helpful to know, because someone who watches 3 hours of how-to videos and taking notes is probably going to do better than someone going in blind.

    any reason you still prefer clay bar over the clay mitt thing as you seemed to like that product and covers a larger surface area. Would you still recommend the mitt for beginners like me?

    • @ForensicDetailing
      @ForensicDetailing  Місяць тому +3

      i think clay bar pulls better. but clay mitts can cover a whole car a lot faster. if I could only have one then its clay bar.

  • @ChazR25

    3:53. I'm thinking that if you wiped this off in an attempt to remove small contaminants and then resprayed immediately prior to installation, it may have gone better. I don't know much about it, just thinking out loud. I've only messed around with tint in the past and that can be a PITA to work with.

    • @ForensicDetailing
      @ForensicDetailing  Місяць тому +3

      guys told me. you need to squeegee the panel. and also have the PPF piece ready to go stuck on the wall ready to be transferred. that will help solve one of the problems but theres so many other problems. The edges are a nightmare. And so was like the front bumper. just dont try it you have been warned. but it is awesome fun and one day i would love to be able to do this properly.

    • @ChazR25
      @ChazR25 Місяць тому

      @@ForensicDetailing No doubt it would be a great skill to have. Practice, frustration, and lots of waste and we could all get there. The complex curves on some front fascia's could easily drive someone insane lol

    can anyone shed light on PPF iv noticed watching people fitting it there dragging tools over the wrap and you can see the marks it leaves behind once finished is that easily buffed off or are you left with the swirls etc from fitting? seems pretty counterintuitive if that's the case

    • @mikey_fresh
      @mikey_fresh Місяць тому +1

      We use self healing films , any marks and swirls created from the tools the film will self heal
