I'm nearly 73 and watching Mike Patey motivates me to keep moving harder than ever! Let's do it! I'm doing 100+ push-ups per day and power walking 5 miles minimum. Not to mention, I run a wheelbarrow and shovel every day doing landscape projects.

Mike is by far the best pilot I have ever come across. Not only does he build the most capable machines in the air, but when he makes a mistake he is the first one to say "I messed up." He wants the world to learn from his mistakes so that the world of Aviation is a safer place for all of us. The day he crashed Draco he immediately put out a video letting us know that he was OK but I think the very first sentence out of his mouth was "I messed up, don't be stupid like I was." He immediately took responsibility and full credit for his mistake. The next day he told the world exactly how it happened and what he did wrong. He has pushed aviation safety for years because he has seen people make fatal mistakes that didn't need to happen. I have more respect for him as a pilot than I have for any other pilot in the world. Listen and learn everyone as he can teach you things that nobody else can.
You’re so right about him being an awesome pilot. His incredible “test pilot like” handling of his flight level Turbulence engine failure with an IFR emergency descent and landing was off the charts.
His confidence exceeded his competence and the capability of his aircraft.
This is not what makes a good pilot.
I watched every minute of the original build. Looking forward to the next one!

Mike, my Grandfather was an A&P and CFI and my dad got his license under him as eventually met and married my mom. Dad passed a couple of years ago and grandpa about 20+ years ago. I am sure that grandpa would have been impressed with your builds and while dad was in Hospice, I started showing him your videos. He really enjoyed them and commented that you were cutting edge. He was a machinist and understood everything you talked about. I never got my pilots license, but still have the itch, just very shallow pockets. One day! Thank you for sharing your passion and giving me and my dad some things to talk about during the quiet times of his last days. Much love to you and your family and may you always have landings that you can walk away from. 🤙🤙

Mike, when I first found your channel, I was blown away by your enthusiasm, attention to detail, and love for aviation. At the time I was not a pilot, but it was my dream. I was hooked on watching your videos, and you fueled the fire in me to finally chase my dream of flight. You are a true inspiration to so many people. I passed my PPL checkride 2/24, and will be starting instrument very soon. I hope to get a taste of backcountry flying someday. I am sure I speak for a lot of people when I say “Thank You” for everything you do for the aviation community. You are a true ambassador. Keep up the amazing work. Safe skies my friend. 🇺🇸🛩️

The Draco X is in the new Microsoft flight simulator. I flew it this morning and it's great fun!

Mike, you should do a quick video to let everyone know about DracoX in Microsoft Flight simulator. It's a blast to fly! I also hope the Patey Air Park comes to flight sim as a highly detailed scenery addon so that those of us without real planes can have a place to virtually hang out.
I did announce it, but many seem to have missed it. We need a tag people can use when flying so that I can repost and share.

I’m greatly anticipating the new Draco and what it will do. I loved when you came back and reversed Draco into the hanger, now that was cool.

I remeber the first time I ever met/saw a Wilga... 1990's Cable Air Show in SoCal. I fell in love with her as a lil kid. Back then they were using her as a paradrop platform with her STOL as a side act. I fell so in love with the Wilga as a little kid maan. I still have photos of myself in the cockpit of that same Wilga a few years later.
I’ve been watching since half way through the original Draco build. I can’t wait to see the new one! I don’t fly but I love watching your builds.

Mike Patey exemplifies what the world could be if it was run by the engineers. It's a world that I want to live in.
I grew up learning about the pioneers & legends of aviation history, names like Howard Hughes, Kelly Johnson, & Burt Rutan. It's been awe inspiring and heart warming to watch, in real time and with so much more detail, and witness Mike Patey cut, grind, and vacuum bag his own name into American General Aviation history right next to those who came before him.
Man I was almost in tears when I saw that you crashed it. So much time and effort gone to waste, but, you did it yourself, no one to blame. Glad to hear there’s a version two coming up! Or?
Not a waste if you can walk away from a crash. An expensive learning experience…for him and the insurance company.
@ always better to not get hurt in a crash, cars, bikes and planes are replaceable, your body and mind is not. Believe me, I learned that after being hit several times by some very stupid people.
A great attribute about Mike is his ability to explain his passion so well. I enjoy watching these videos because of it.

I grew up in Utah county and got my private and instrument rating flying out of Provo. Mike and his videos have been a huge motivator for me. I was not able to finish my flight training due to life and the expense of General Aviation. But Mike Patey and his videos really pushed me to keep flying and piloting. I am now in Alabama training with the US Army as an Aviator. The aviation community is small and filled with amazing people. I hope to one day be able to help and motivate people like Mike does!!

It is amazing what you have done with Draco! 40 years ago I saw a Wilga at a Michigan air show. As a Pole, I was surprised to see the plane demonstrated in the US. Poland needs to learn from you. I'm looking forward to your future endeavors. Thank you Mike!

I watched the entire Draco build and was amazed. The crash…I was relieved Mike survived, but utterly heartbroken at the destruction of this unique aircraft. I don’t fly, but felt a deep loss of such a staggeringly capable machine. My hope is that Mike will build another…identical. This is the coolest plane I have ever seen. May you live forever Mike.

I hate to say it Mike but every time I see Draco waded up next to the runway literally brings tears to my eyes however what mattered the most is know one was injured. I love what you do and i will always follow you. Stay safe I need a tissue. ❤😢

For sure! Mike is definitely in the same category as Elon Musk, although Mike is so humble that he wouldn’t see it that way. He and Elon are brilliant, well thought out men with passion, drive and an intense work ethic! And both men generously allow others to use many of their ideas. They have such a passion to see visions come to life and be enjoyed by everyone.
Mike is so far ahead of Elon that he’s landing in the plane he built himself while Elon is still promising what he’ll build. No comparison. An insult to Mike to reduce him to Elon.
@rpm6085 Space X has already brought astronauts back from the ISS and is landing rockets and can relaunch them in a matter of hours. Elon has plenty of huge accomplishments. I would love to see Mike and Elon get together for an interview. He and Mike are revolutionary in their outlooks and are changing entire industries. Mike has done that with waste water clean up and so many other things besides his fantastic builds. He and Elon are brilliant in their own ways. They both have an incredible work ethic that most of us could never keep up with.
No Mike, thank you. You’re the reason I own both a 2.0 and micro Eflite Draco. It’s the amazing story and capability of the plane that makes it so unique and desirable. Scrappy is cool but there is nothing like Draco. Keep these stories coming and you give so much to the full scale and RC community!
