- As colonies grow, the space they occupy rapidly becomes constricted. If left unchecked, half of your colony will leave before you know it, taking with it the top-quality queen you were depending on for a great honey crop! In this video you will learn about the series of indicators leading up to the final event of a swarm. When observed in advance, you have the opportunity to act and prevent the swarm, keeping those bees in your beeyard and out of someone else's house or tree!
I,ve always wondered if length of day is the largest stimulant for swarming .
Popular reasoning is being crowded and the upcoming major nectar flow but i wonder if and how they know about nectar flow
The biggest swarm deterrence that i use is to give them room even if it means supering under the brood nest in colder early weather seasons . And giving them empty frames inbetween the capped brood as well as moving nectar and honey away fr the brood while leaving the pollen against the brood .
We have april may june in Saskatchewan to make huge hives for our honey flow so we push them as hard as we can
Great video thank you
