    "I started with pulling the perfect mold (which you need, but no one is going to have) out of thin air."

      @VanOaksProps  3 роки тому +1

      True. Although, there have been castings of the door handle floating around on eBay and Etsy for over a decade but they tend to have less than ideal finishes. This video was geared toward painting and less about mold making and casting.

      @@VanOaksProps "This video was geared toward painting and less about mold making and casting."
      Then the title needs to be changed to reflect that. It's a little misleading/disappointing.
      I like your videos and how they show that the average person can make these things, but the last two videos required tools that the average person won't have access to, (3D printer/special casting mold) which were kinda disappointing considering the finishing techniques have been demonstrated on pervious projects.
      Just a little constructive critique. Looking forward to more "Hardware store DIY builds".

      Thanks for the feedback, it’s much appreciated. I completely understand your point but also think it’s important to encourage trying new things and feel that it’s important to step outside of your comfort zone.
      That said, I know that the investment in different tools and materials isn’t for everyone, but I thought I’d create a few videos for people who may be looking for something a bit beyond the usual.

      Use a heat source like a long nosed lighter or heat gun to remove bubbles as they rise to the open side of your mold before it hardens. Whatever you try will look awesome.

    Great video. Obviously you made this before the HM plaque video… but in that video you did the patina before the gold rub. Are the steps interchangeable?

    • @VanOaksProps
      @VanOaksProps  3 роки тому +1

      You've got some really great questions! I love it.
      The steps are interchangeable. I did it the opposite way for the plaque because I wanted to down play the patina. For the door handle I wanted it a bit more present, hence the flip flop on the order.
