    So impressed with your channel Leo. Always a great production to start and show off the playing and capabilities of said unit, followed by really in-depth and important comparisons and pros/cons. Professional from start to finish.
    As far a s the unit, they have seen a real niche with players who want that 'old skool' instantaneous ability to tweak without diving into a menu on a tiny screen.
    Did I mention your damn insane playing ability?

    Hi Leo, this is a great review like all of your reviews. I must say you’re picking speed and technique have improved tremendously. The ease of which you go rapidly between each string is extremely noticeable. I am 62 years old and I attended a Guitar conservatory in my youth and I know improvement when I see it. Congratulations, outstanding. also loved the melody line which was very inspirational.🙏

    Immediately pre-ordered this here in Germany after seeing your video. Why, since I already have a fantastic-sounding, easy-to-use ToneX pedal and a full pedalboard of great effects to go with it? Well, simple: As a solo performer (acoustic and electric), I‘m hoping this unit will give me both excellent sound and visceral ease of use, as Leo points out as a highlight of this unit. I love being able to just click certain effects on or off as the song demands, meaning I don‘t need to set up and store extra presets just to add or subtract, for example, delay or chorus or both. This allows me to more comfortably tweak my basic tone as needed, without having to redo a bunch of other presets. The Trident also has an effects loop, so I can loop in, say, my beloved Cloudburst or even my Del-Verb or Golden Reverberator for some high-class effects. The sum total is a pretty compact board with capabilities for both electric and acoustic (using presets without amp sims and such for the acoustic), and theoretically I could also use the Aux In to feed my stompbox pedal (for a bit of foot accompaniment) without having to use an additional channel on my powered Everse 8 or Bose S1 Pro speakers. Or else I might chose to add in my Boss VE-500 vocal effects/harmonized pedal via the Aux In, and give the VE-500 a guitar signal from one of the Trident‘s multiple outputs for correct vocal harmonies. Of course, all this is predicated on the sound of the unit not being too „digital“ in combination with acoustic guitars. Many units out there alter the sound of acoustics, even when all effects are switched off (and this includes units like the Boss VE-8 (which is even designed for acoustic!) and many high-priced other ones. It all comes down to the processing and the latency, and whether a device is voiced more to electric guitars, which don‘t have such complex harmonics. So I‘m very curious how this will perform. Should know in a few months (sigh), when Thomann finally gets them. :-)

      @@LeoGibsonGtr I have a question: when you recorded the demo, how did you set up the sound on the Trident. According to what? By the drums? Or did you tune the sound as reamping? Because on their own, the sounds are such that I wouldn't set it up that way. . . without backing track recording. Actually, I don't like it very much :-) but it fits perfectly in the recording as a whole.

    • @LeoGibsonGtr
      @LeoGibsonGtr  Рік тому +1

      It depends from the situation, but typically I play with the unit and the guitar alone and I try to find a good tone. Then I tweak it according to the song....for instance, in order to fit with the whole mix, typically you have to remove some bass freq (where the kick and the bass guitars are located).
      Thank you!

    Leo: Thanks for another great video. I’ve been hesitant to buy a modeler because I play live and am not sure how dynamic the output is. What I mean by dynamic is, how much volume difference there is between lightly touching the strings to hitting them fully hard on a semi clean/dirty sound. For example, using attenuators on my Marshall plexi style amps, I find that the Fayetteville Power Station compresses the dynamics greatly, whereas the Tone King Iron Man II retains decent dynamics, but neither are quite as good as the real deal. I’d love to know your thoughts on this. Again, thanks very much for your great work!

      Yes, the dynamic range of a tube amp is, in my opinion, the most difficult thing to mimic.
      These units are getting better and better...and in this unit I found the Plexi, Friedman and Mesa amps pretty responsive. Wheatear it is as good as the real deal, it's hard to tell...maybe I will do some direct comparison videos in the coming weeks.

    Ciao Leo, era da un po' che non passavo dal tuo canale e come prima cosa noto che hai più che raddoppiato gli iscritti, complimenti! Utilizzo un Nux Cerberus che ho riacquistato per la seconda volta, la prima volevo "sposarlo" con un Nux Academy per supplire la mancanza della sezione amp ma litigavo con il midi e... ho venduto tutto. Poi, avendo ripreso le prove con un gruppetto, ho ripreso appunto il Cerberus per usarlo con l'ampli, un vecchio Peavey Bandit, ed il divertimento non manca. In fondo mi è costato meno di due overdrive appena decenti... Sono da tempo affascinato da macchine con tanti pulsanti e knobs, di facile spippolamento, ed ora ne arrivano addirittura due, questo Trident ed il Boss Me90 (ho appena visto anche quella tua prova), molto interessanti. Attendo con ansia la tua comparativa, per parte mia osservo solo un paio di cose: il Trident mi sembra meglio organizzato, avendo la possibilità di gestire il posizionamento degli effetti nella catena, e possedendo un minimo di display,xlr e prese midi. Mi lascia perplesso che rispetto al Cerberus sia stata semplificata la sezione OD/DS (che ora assomiglia a quella dell'Academy) nel vecchio modello era proprio ben suonante. In questo anche la sezione effetti (modulazioni,delay e riverberi) è un po' debole, ma mi sembra che quella del Trident sia sostanzialmente uguale. Probabilmente Boss ha una qualità degli effetti globalmente migliore, figlia dell'antica esperienza del marchio. Certo potevano sprecarsi un po' di più in termini di gestione della catena, connessioni etc. ma, specie nelle connessioni, Boss mi sembra sempre molto "tirchia" anche nelle sorelle maggiori. Spero di riuscire a provarle entrambe, potrei pensare a sostituire il Cerberus con una di queste come pedaliera per uso veloce (sala prove, piccoli live etc.). Buona musica Leo e sempre avanti così.

    • @LeoGibsonGtr
      @LeoGibsonGtr  Рік тому

      Grazie mille! Devo dire che entrambe le macchine mi stanno piacendo e divertendo....devo avere il tempo per compararle per bene prima di esprimere un'opinione....Comunque l'approccio "tattile" ha il suo perchè e onestamente è una ventata di aria fresca nel mondo delle pedaliere digitali...non che prima non esistessero soluzione simili....ma queste macchine portano avanti il "concetto" in modo concreto e sostanziale.
      Grazie e a presto!

    Hi Leo.. Watching these video's again.. I'm about to purchase a modeling or multi effects to go with a solid state amp in the effects loop.. I liked this, but it is about 50 dollars higher than the Boss ME90, and I trust Boss more than Nux.. This is just me, but I like Boss effects and like you have used them for many years.. I trust Boss.. I have the Katana amp and love it.. I'll use the ME90 in it's effect return to play live with probably.. I'll also use the ME 90 to record into a DAW directly into my computer.. I keep hearing that Boss' AIRD technology really works and feels like the real amps, and your ME90 video showed me that it does give a great plexi tone at the edge of breakup which is where in the past most modelling products failed me.. This was a long time ago though..
    Thanks again for these video's kind sir..

    Extraordinary review as always, i actually discovered this pedal from your me90 comparison video, and am seriosuly considering the nux trident. Please could you make a video on this unit's looper functionality? I think you should generally say more things about looper functionality of the multifx units you review, since these are important details for some of your viewers. I for one have been looking for a good intermediate priced multifx unit which allows me to use the looper with presets. I want to have a clean tone, crunch and distorted lead tone, all freely useable with a looper. Im not sure if the me90 does this (although it has a phrase loop). Would be great to know if the nux trident's looper works with presets, like the boss gx100, helix stomp xl and pod go.

    Hi Leo, first of all, great channel, great gear demo videos, you're one of my favorite reviewers. I start playing guitar again after a 10 year break, and I'm in search of the best "affordable" multi effects unit, and the Trident sits in the top of my list. It sounds good to my ears and looks very well thought of. In my use case scenario, I would like to use the effect loop as in a real amp, that is pluging a physical preamp into the return of the power amp section of an amp model. Is it possible to do that? If not I really wish there will be a way to achieve this in a future update, it would be awesome. Thank you, take care

    Thanks for another great video, Leo. Its interesting that the latency is so very low. In your experience, what latency level becomes noticeable to you? Can you "feel" the difference between 4msec and 1msec latencies?

    • @LeoGibsonGtr
      @LeoGibsonGtr  Рік тому +3

      Hi, to me the latency becomes pretty annoying around above 15ms. I think it's pretty hard to notice the different between 1 and 4 ms, but please take into consideration that you have to evaluate the overall latency of your system. For instance, if you have a wireless transmitter, latency sum up, if you are far from the cabs, latency sum up, if you add some other digital effects, latency sum up...and you may end up with annoying overall latency.
      Thank you

    Hy Leo! Thank you so much for your effort to test all these things for us, the guitar community!
    I have a question, since you seem to be the one to have likely most experience with a ton of different modellers and owning a ton of them like the quad cortex and the fractal FM3. If money wasn't the biggest question but feel and sound were your most important aspects next to easyness to use and future proveness. Which unit would you go with? I fear that the million parameters of a FM3 would overwhelm my non-nerdyness but that I would always want the feel of a high end modeller. Do I have to just bite the apple and learn how to use a quad or a FM3 or is the sound and feel of a trident so close these days, that you wouldn't know the difference anyway?

    • @LeoGibsonGtr

      Hi, the high end modellers for me are BOSS GT 1000, Fractal FM 3 or Quad Cortex....it really depends....effects wise I prefer BOSS, Quad Cortex has the profiling option which I love, FM 3 has an incredible level of tweakability...and a giant library of amps....it really depends...

    Here is a thing which is never mentioned. There are rotating knobs, which supposedly are not freely rotating, but have travel limits, and, moreover, have position indicator stamped right on the knob itself. And yet, they have to reflect a state of a virtual patch value. Let's say, your gain knob is at 12 o'clock (50%), and you select a patch with gain all the way up. Now, you want to slightly reduce gain by ear. I suppose, as soon as you rotate the knob, the patch gain is RESET to its physical position, to 50%. At least that's what Boss Katana does, which also couples physical controls to a memory patches. So instead of reducing gain, you must set it from scratch. It is very uncomfortable. At least it is on Katana. Regular multi FX units deal with it using freely rotating knobs with virtual value indication on screen (or small LEDs around the knob, as Zoom G11 does).

    • @christian_oz
      @christian_oz Рік тому +1

      Some units (and I'm not sure if this particular one implements this) handle this using a 'catch' approach. i.e when you move the knob, nothing happens until you get to the set value and then you 'catch' the parameter and the knob starts responding from that point on. In some cases, the behaviour of the knob (whether instant and catch) is configurable from the system settings.

    • @LeoGibsonGtr
      @LeoGibsonGtr  Рік тому +2

      Hi Boris, yes.....it's a good point...this is a drawback of this approach....Other solutions, other than the ones you suggested, could be:
      > to use the computer app, where you can see where the knobs are.
      > to take photo of your favourite set up
      Of course the solution with led you suggested is the best one (in my opinion)

      Hi Martino, this is what it is written in the NUX Web Site: "The TSAC-4K Amp Modeling algorithm is twice as complex than previous versions". Therefore the algorithms should be more detailed and "better" than the previous ones. I guess that also the DSPs are more powerful, but I'm not 100% sure as we don't have the detailed tech specs of the Trident and MG30 DSPs
      Thank you!
