I feel like JK gave up on the new set too fast. From what I remember for some reason you guys didn't sit in the traditional square shape and the sound was a bit weird. ...seems like a kinda easy fix and could have felt "real" still but maybe there was more to it? anyways, I like the new office for this pod, clean yet familiar lol

Haizzz Joe's story in VN quite saddens me because it's true and I hate it. I'm from Saigon and most of the girls circling the clubs or party streets hunting for expats or foreigners do act as Joe described and most foreign guys (I'm not saying Joe or his friends) look down on these girls or treat them as uneducated hoes. And I'm okay with the girls living their life however they want and what's going between these guys and girls are their business. BUT I've come into contact with quite a few foreigners in my legal profession job and many of the males would initially treat me quite condescendingly as if they're still in the clubs, getting chatted up by hoes; until I put them in their place in fluent english then their attitude changes. I mean at least I hope these foreigners can be aware that not all Vietnamese girls are the same as those party, groupie girls.

White people? I see white people do that a lot to asian women on flights. Treating asian women like sexy groupies. It's pretty much sexual harassment. I see it a lot on Japanese planes because the women don't want to react badly due to culture. I seen a white dude straight up telling a Japanese stewardess that she was "hot" and asking to grab a hotel after the flight, this is like in the middle aisle, in public. I felt so bad for her

Thank you guys for the time you put into making these podcasts and talking about your life. Just hearing people talk and putting the pieces together in different aspects of their life in a "food for thought" type of environment like what you guys are doing is very relaxing and euphoric for me. Just wanted to let you guys know how insightful these videos are for me and how things that affect my life, and things I haven't even experienced yet is being touched on by 2 guys (you and Joe) who know how to vocalize and elaborate how they feel. Both in the experiences and nuances you guys go throungh.

As an asian american who has visited Vietnam, China, Singapore, the girls over there are WAY more focused around money which makes perfect sense. If you're in poverty, you're looking for a way out. I think many people in the U.S. are ignorant as fuck of that concept. Another youtuber comes from a Western country and hes dating a girl from Vietnam. I type this same comment in his chat and I get these idiots who are like "shes not after his greencard, they love each other". If its truly love, then go wild. But, be aware that when you're dating someone who grew up and lived their entire life in a different country, there will be a difference of values and culture. If you don't recognize that, you're pretty much going to get a harsh reality check the second that person has to choose between you and this other thing that they value a lot more (ex: they finally get their gree card and find another man who is much richer than you).

5:14 I think about this aspect of podcasts a lot. I end up making multiple comments because of this fact. Typically I go back and edit or delete if it has been addressed or I took something out of context (which happens, because long format). I'd be curious to see how the commenting method SoundCloud has for audio could work with podcasts (so you get to comment as the clip goes and it matches the section you are talking about). This is why I like to use timestamps.

@@therestlessfoodie9978 Stop spreading bullshit when you don't have a clue what you are talking about. Saigon is the old name that was used before the reunification of the North and South. Nowadays, "HCM City" is used in official documents, events and the news. Common people like to say "Saigon" more just because it is less formal and a mouthful.
And I don't even want to argue with a foreigner about how our laws and jurisdiction work. I know your last name is Nguyen but based on the blatant lies you said I'm sure you grew up somewhere else. Actually, I think you are the one who is brainwashed with all the same old "oooh communist evil, oooh if you have money you can do whatever fucked up shit you want". Wake up man, it's 2019 already, Vietnam is a peaceful & civilized country now. Are you sure you can say the same about the U.S with all the mass shootings, racism and political scandals that are happening there?

Kk guys I also wanna mention that HCM city is used when referred to general region with collective districts. Within the city, we refer to downtown as Saigon. Ofc it’s only true for my specific background, american vietnamese will tell you otherwise.

Hey David! I really liked the point you brought up at the end of the video about real friends. I got a friend who I sometimes feel only uses me for his own gain, but he's a nice guy. Idk if he's being nice to me bcuz he cares as a friend or that he's just a nice person? If that makes sense. He does pay for me when we go out with friends, and I do the same back. But it's just that really.. One time that really made me lose trust in him is when I was talking to a girl and he also tried to make moves on her. More of a financial friend, but no emotion. I'm always teaching him stuff, but I gain nothing except some food. He just feels really opportunistic and I feel like an informant. I reflect on our friendship A LOT, and sometimes I feel like he takes more than he gives. I feel like a bad friend for even thinking this. This also reminded of the ep on JKNews where you said you had to leave friends bcuz they weren't bettering themselves to go along the ride with you. Any advice would be cool. Long time sub here David and enjoy your art!

The majority of divorces in the US are finance-related. Come on, People out here acting like money isn't a factor in building companionship and love when money is essential for SURVIVAL and sustaining life itself under these capitalist systems. Why wouldn't money be taken into consideration when looking for partners, you want to look for someone that wouldn't strain your finances but rather add to them with a good partnership... it is the only sensible way to think with these messed up systems we are living under.

Lot of the influence is not just from west but more from asian neighbors...china, korea japan thailand as well as Vietnams own style of culture. Asian americans are just behind the times of what goes on in asia and see things from their western point of view. Its not american tourism that brings this influence...lol. Its a mix...but mainly from own personal style and most of all its asian neighbors.

I was born and raised in Vietnam so I can say this. You can't find a hyper-intellectual wholesome girl in Vietnamese clubs. Most of the groupie girls in the clubs usually have specific reasons why they go there.. and partying is at the bottom of their list. :)) I feel so bad for Joe cuz he most likely went to the wrong part of Vietnam with the wrong people. There's a whole part of Saigon that almost everyone can speak English.. it's called downtown District 1... and Bui Vien street is where you tourists without-a-local should hang out if you don't know Vietnamese. LOL However, deep inside I don't think Joe would find his equal with a native Vietnamese in Vietnam because of all the cultural differences and backgrounds. Plus Joe has a lot to "lose" now so the trust is not there anymore. A Vietnamese American would be lot better for Joe. So keep going to Westminster, Santa Ana, or Garden Grove to increase your chance meeting your soul mate :)). Anyways, I miss Vietnam so much and I miss all the 50 cents Banh Mi haha. It is a blooming country and I've always wanted to go back and have a business there. Hopefully you guys can enjoy more next time in Vietnam. :)

Especially places like Nha Trang that are known for expats, parties, and resorts. It's like going to Cancun, basically. Smaller cities and the north would be more conservative like what you're used to from the Vietnamese community :)

I'm sorry that Joe found the Vietnamese dating scene is such a miss. But based on the story on where you go to meet girls, I'm not sure how you would meet "quality" dating prospects. And the people that you choose to "swipe right" too all turn out to want something from you, but you're the one who chose them in the first place. I'm really frustrated when some expats, or Viet Kieu, come here and think that everyone would flock to them for a green card. You are who you choose to surround with, so maybe be more selective with who you swipe right on Tinder. And maybe, just maybe, get out of a bubble. If you go to that country, don't expect them to speak your language. Dutch people don't, French don't, Japanese don't etc. America doesn't own the world, so no country should be cater to make Americans not feeling like they are out-of-water. We should travel and try to understand that country's culture, why they behave that way and appreciate it; not to put it down because they're not "Americanized" like you expected.

I laughed pretty hard when Joe said that he thought Vietnamese were gonna be conservative. xD I mean I don't blame him, but still laugh pretty hard bc it's not true as he found out.

Being a young Vietnamese guy living in the states, my gma has told me several times that she would take me back to Vietnam cause she visits about twice a year to get a Vietnamese girl that I can bring back to the states and that’s just not the way. They want citizenship over love.

At first, English speakers in the colonies and England used a rhotic accent. But after the Revolutionary War, upper-class and upper-middle-class citizens in England began using non-rhotic speech as a way to show their social status. Eventually, this became standard for Received Pronunciation and spread throughout the country, affecting even the most popular British phrases. Americans kept their rhotic American accent-for the most part. Port cities on the East Coast, especially in New England, had a lot of contact with the R-less Brits. So if you always wondered why Boston natives pahk theyah cahs to pahty hahd with a glass of cabahnet, thank rhotacism.

All this Viet vs. American girl dating talk I already feel from dating in norcal. My dating apps are filled with Chinese mainlander fobs, and they are virtually the only girls that actually match with me. When I wander on college campus during grad school, I can feel fobs are attracted to me, without me even trying. I've met too many of them here and I'm done having the same conversations about my mandarin skills. Their values and standards are just so different, I can never relate. Plus I have the sneaking suspicion I'm no more than a green card provider.

    • @christina.worldwide
      @christina.worldwide 5 років тому

Do you think there are any other reasons behind this besides a green card? Most of these girls are pretty educated and wealthy so I think they have other means to stay in the US besides marriage.

HAHAHAHHAA I WAS IN THAT RELIGION and attended that local in Sacramento. I got kicked out tho. Bruh it's a WHOLE NEW WORLD now that I'm out. Also times had changed, they are all dancing and rapping now trying to connect with the younger crowd and using them to boast about their faith.
I'm so done with that church, everyone in it has issues. I don't have to filter myself anymore just to please everyone anymore. So dumb that you'd get suspended or called out for the dumbest shit like dating non-members.

You guys are so ignorant about the world you see tinder you think it's a brothel wtf? it's the internet world now everyone's online it's not weird to find a date online bro. and love is for the rich? no that's not love you get gold digger when you're rich most decent girls are not impressed by money, it helps, because it makes you someone who has achievements but that's not everything. you have to have game to find love as a guy. love is for everyone you guys should socialize more

Hypergamy. Dating women has general foundations on which they choose men, the degree of the extremity will vary based on the area for those women. But Hypergamy is a constant; like gravity. Understanding that takes majority of confusion and surprise out of dating and women.
