2009-2014 Ford F-150: Replacing the front turn signal bulb

- In this video, I replaced the front turn signal bulb on a 2010 F-150. This is a pretty straightforward repair, but it does require removing the headlight assembly to access the bulb sockets on the back.
Once the headlight assembly is out, you'll have full access to the headlight, side marker, and turn signal bulbs.
Time required: 10 minutes
Tools needed: 10mm socket, 6" extension, ratchet, and a phillips screwdriver.
Materials/Parts needed: Sidemarker bulb: 168, Turn signal/parking light bulb: 3157NA, Headlight (halogen models): 9008/H13
I created this video with the UA-cam Video Editor ( / editor ) - Авто та транспорт
I have a 2014 and figured I'd just take a look underneath first after watching. I was able to just easily reach up and pull it from the back and replace bulb and pop/twist the fixture back in no problem without removing the light. Just threw on some latex gloves. Figured this may save someone time. Maybe the '10 is a bit different I don't know but title covered the '14. Good video though I'm sure this is the "right way" to do it lol.
I just had a '13 in the shop and took a quick peek since you mentioned it. I can see how you could do it without removing the light housing, especially if you have smaller hands. There's always more than one way to skin a cat :) If anything, the video will show people a little more detail on how the socket screws into the back of the housing. Thanks for leaving a helpful comment!
This is a very good video. Was nervous about doing this myself but got a lot of confidence from this. Very clear and easy to follow. Thank you
Just did this - flawlessly. And, I'm far from a do-it-yourselfer! Great video. Thanks.
I couldn’t get the light out. 😩😩I removed all the screws but still couldn’t get it out. So I was able to reach under and do it that way! I have a 2014. Thanks!

Thank you bulb just went out on my 2010 ford and was unsure how hard it was. Fantastic job on explanation
Should always take the new bulb before putting it all back together just in case that new bulb is defective. Awesome video man I needed it
Just noticed mine was out on the passenger side. Thanks to you; I'm about to go out and easy fix it today.
Great Video. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for video. I don't know why F150 headlight assemblies accumulate water in them - then kill the turn signal bulbs. With the help of your video I emptied 1.5 cups of water out of each assembly. The turn signal bulb was literally underwater and killed both bulbs. Like other posts I drilled 1/8" holes in the bottom (back) to drain the water out and used a hair dryer to get rid of the water. Hopefully when water accumulates now it will drain out. This video was most helpful!
Nice, simple easy to understand. Thanks a ton!
Great video. I watched it and it only took me minutes to do after that. Thank you
Thank you for sharing this! Great informative video!
Just the video I needed, thanks!
Thanks bud. This is just the video I needed tonight. Thanks for posting it.
Glad the video was able to help you! Thanks for leaving a comment!
Thanks for the demonstration, I will change mine on my day off!
Thanks to you, AK, a quick 10 minute job!!!
Right on! Glad the video helped!
Thank you for posting this video!! It was very helpful your the man!! 👊
Thanks for sharing. Good job.
I like that you explain the touching the bulb thing- I always thought it was superstitious or extreme but how you explained it made sense to me thank you
You’re welcome. Hope the video was helpful!
It totally is I just can't figure out how to get that fastener off 😆
@@chelseaaa7360 which fastener? The plastic one with the Phillips head?
@@chelseaaa7360 Avoiding touching the glass on this bulb is not 'bad', but not necessary. The bulbs that require this extra level of care when handling are HALOGEN bulbs due to the bulbs "glass" actually being pure quartz, necessary for the much higher operating temperatures, and susceptible to damage from the oils and salts that naturally exist on our fingers, which will serve to damage the quartz shielding and ultimately shorten the life of the bulb. Incandescent bulbs, like the one in this video use glass with a lot of impurities already in it, but are not susceptible to premature failure due to their significantly lower operating temperatures.
thanks a lot. very easy vid to follow.
very good, job well done, now I can do mine.
Thanks. Saved me a couple bucks!
I changed out side marker bulbs for my dad.. the rim around the amber lens turned blue. I never seen that before.
Thanks for the information homie 🙏 👍
Great video. Thanks!
Thanks, worked great
I have to replace mine, not because it doesn't work, but because the amber paint has worn off. At least thats what the inspector who failed my truck says. Must be the low blinker fluid that caused that
i replaced one burned out bulb to LED on back still clicked fast. Do I need to change both bulbs to LED to balance resistance?
Thanks for video.
You will have to either add a load resistor to your LED bulb, or revert back to a standard incandescent bulb. The GEMS/BCM on the truck measures resistance in the turn signal circuit and is calibrated for the factory-installed incandescent bulbs. LEDs don't have anywhere near the resistance that incandescent bulbs do, so the GEMS/BCM think there's a bulb out and gives the hyperflash. Hope this helps!
Helped me out!
Thanks very detailed :)
Thank you!
I need to replace the side marker light and cantfollowing the instructions.i took off three bolts and it wouldn’t.i have a 2013 f150 eco boost p/u..any other suggestions.i notice all your instructions are for the drivers side, should be the same for the passenger side..right.took off every bolt associated with the passenger side module, but it would not come out as per the video....pleases advise...
Sometimes these housings are a bugger to pull off, the 'snap fit' fastener in the fenders can sometimes hold on tighter than shown in the video. Persistence is key (assuming you've already removed all of the bolts), I find that a firm and sharp tug on the headlight housing will often pop them free of the snap fit fastener in the fender.
Thank you 😊
thanks fren!
Thanks for taking the time to leave a comment. Much appreciated!
Thanks!
What about the rear signal lights?
I have a 2014 f150. Both front and rear lights are blinking fast on the drivers side..have to look at tomorrow...it must be a bulb issue eh?
GoPro Goalie Uzi There should be two bulbs that blink in the rear. If one of them goes out, you will normally get the fast blinking. Many people do not realize that there are two brake/tail light bulbs per side on these trucks.
What if the parking light does not turn on but the turns on with the turn signal.. obviously the bulb is fine.. so what else could it be?
The bulb has dual filaments. The bright element is the one used for the turn signal and the less bright element is used for the parking light. The most likely scenario is that the bulb' s parking light element is burned out. Have you tried swapping the bulb from one side to the other, to see if the problem moves with the bulb? Or does this problem exist on both sides?
I have the same problem, back light work, only front blinkers. No side ones work either. Tried a clear bulb to test and nothing.
I was able to replace bulbs without removing light assembly.

You broke a rubber glove??? Lol
Are you telling me I have to take my grill off to change a turn signal lamp?!? How crazy is that!
The grille on the 2009-2014 F-150s lift up with the hood. But you will have to remove the headlight housing in order to access the turn signal bulbs. Not the best design in the world, but I've certainly seen much worse (some GM trucks, for example).
Thank you. 😊
