TB is trying really hard not to admit he likes the game.
"Killing him will only piss him off."
I've never heard a more badass line in my life.
This game is a that breath of fresh air that you need once in a while.
pure self-aware nonsensical fun.
I was expecting a really awful game and found a fun one, so it's nice to be pleasantly surprised.
Honestly, this is some of the most fair priced games out there. Many times it's on sale, and for what they ask, it's worth it. It's certainly not a great game, but it's fun, and the plot line and the dialogues are probably the best part. Controls are a bit clunky... but that is to be expected. If you'd like a God of War similar game, crossed over with 90's action films, you will like this title.
To give the guys who made this some credit, the names they used for the various attacks and moves are named after Mayan deities or mythical beings, and fairly correctly at that. I'm not sure whether the comedic angle is wholly intended, but given the nature of your character and that talking Mayan mask, I'm willing to believe that this game is VERY self-aware. :-)
anyone else notice this is a EXACT copy of Splatterhouse? funny mask, bf dies and comes back, girl gets taken, spectacle fighter or am i crazy?
The trailer may have just sold me on this. Ridiculously epic.
Bought this for about .99 cents and found it is the best thing ever. It's a god of war clone and it even has the same combat system that god of war but it's not at the level of it. I wish I had a playstation 3 to play through the god of war games
You know I was kind of teetering on the edge of getting this game for laughs and for showing off to my friends, but that trailer has officially convinced me to go for it.
This totally looks like it's worth 79p. I'll bite.
Not at all, it's called basic understanding of nuance and an ability to separate what you like from what is objectively good. I assumed most people understood that as they reached adulthood but apparently not.
His hands are massive, lol. Your comparison to old action movies is good. Even the trailer looks like one. I do wonder why they bothered to kill him with that stick rather than any normal weapon.
6:00 that shot would have been awesome in a movie. =)
That trailer is so deliciously 90s. Hmmm cheese.
This game, more than any other game, makes me want an Xbox 360
god of war/ dantes inferno, without ****ing puzzles and with ragdoll physics .. i'm in
Gameplay videos are a dime-a-dozen. I appreciate the setting overview.
I am going to buy this game
"Killing him... will only piss him off!" pure 90's gold
I found this game way more fun and a lot less repetitive then metalgear r and that was supposed to be a big budget title .
Oh god, even the trailer is like a late 80s/early 90s action movie. I love this game.
its a dollar on stream right now
And so we add to the pile another person who cannot separate objective complaints from subjective enjoyment.
Makes me sad
I laughed so hard at the trailer
"Killing him, will only piss him off!" Yes! This game, yes! I am so getting it, looks fun.
comments are back when did thay happen?
"Cheap budget, B-movie fun." That sounds delightful.
Always pleased to find something I normally would flat out ignore that you review revealing it to be a game right up my alley.
Can this be made into a movie?
Nice, even the trailer is a throwback to old action flicks especially the narrator/announcer/voice over. Just awesome!
Got it for 99 cents lol on steam summer sale
But shit it was 99 cents!
the trailer framed the entire game perfectly and set the exact tone this game deserves.
Lot of people here screaming that TB doesn't do Reviews, he does First Impressions.
Sorry but you, and TB, are wrong. A First Impression would be him, making a video about a game, fresh-out-of-the-box!!!! But they ain't! Every video of his that I've seen is him making the video after he's played 3, 4, even 5 levels of it. Hell, even reviewers for IGN and the like only get to play a couple of levels of a game before they submit their piece - the recent shit regarding CoD: Ghosts and Forza 5 is proof enough of THAT! Further, TB goes into waaay more detail than "official" reviewers EVER do, constantly picking apart the front end/user settings/in-game menus etc, yeah?
I don't know what the reason is for him constantly stating he's not reviewing these games but I do know that he's lying. ALL the What The Fuck videos are REVIEWS, plain and simple.
Oh, and TB? The word is "absurd", ok? Absurd. ABsurd. A as in apple or A as in bAth as you're from 'oop North'. ABsurd.
Get it the fuck RIGHT!
It is first impressions a review implies you've played through it. He has also said many times that people like that really are doing firstr impressions.
Someone's a little bit mad ain't ya matey
Oh by the way, The Gods, he is british. It's called an accent. Deal with it.
Thunderous
Yes I know he is.
I am too.
That's how I know he can't fucking say it properly!
Deal with THAT!
Yes, well he obviously has a DIFFERENT accent to you.
Every now and again you review a game where your enthusiasm, however grudging, just shines through. This is one of those games. Gonna have to give it a try.
This video is far too long. He just keeps repeating himself over and over.
Do not visit a PC gaming channel if you don't want to hear about the settings.
WHEN'S MAHLOW!?
Actually - the design is pretty good ! It is cheap, low-fi and cuts a lot of corners, but focuses on the parts that make it memorable. It looks like the game has interesting set pieces for the levels, memorable characters and a fitting story and is playable to boot. Must have been hell of a job to get done on a 10$ budget title !
I really think the cutscenes are really smartly done; imagine how much money they must have saved on animation
"Before leaving make your workplace as unsafe as possible, with any luck the intruder will die." Wonderful, sold me the game.
That freeze-frame cinematic style works pretty nicely. I kinda like it. It's different.
"Okay, I've figured out the problem. See that little bar in the top left corner of the screen?"
"kukakulakulaka.... whatever it's a weapon or something."
Well played TotalBiscuit!
This is pretty much a character action, rail shooting, quick time event mess. So much 90's nostalgia I can barely take it, it's so good
"It's terrible in all the right ways" - TotalBiscuit (boxart quote right here)
It's a brilliant thing. From Sid Meier's Pirates, Civilisation, transport tycoon, master of orion and other amazing titles to the brilliance and absolute glory of Girl Fight. it is the second coming of the benevolence we know and have always known of Microprose!
I really love how many videos you post recently TB. Please keep up the good work.
The name of the ore harvester means "Unable to be thrown from a window."
Fucking rad.
MARLOW BRIGGS AND THE MASK OF DEATH
Genre:
Action
Release Date:
9/20/2013
Publisher:
505 Games U.S., Inc.
Developer:
ZootFly
FYI - TB, You were right.
Hearing about this game's level of absurdity reminds me of my experience playing saints row the third, and that was one of my favorite sandbox games of all time. I might actually give this a look when it dips below the $10 mark.
On sale at Amazon for $2.50 atm if you got a promo credit for the Editor's Choice Best Games of 2013.
They should make a prequel titled 'The Brigginning'.
the thing i live about spectacle fighting games is that you can kill so much so quickly and look like a FREAKING badass while you're killing anything and everything that moves games like this are the sole reason why i want to play god of war
The menu options can show a lot about the care/thought that has gone into a game.
I love how TB is just so mixed up on his feelings for this game.
That may very well be the best videogame trailer I've seen in years..!
"An ability to separate what you like from what is objectively good." The way you raved over A Tale of Two Brothers kind of shows that you are missing this ability.
Holy crap, they even had the proper film trailer voice going there.
10:42
Indefenistrable 3 is now my favorite name for any ship ever.
nice touch putting the trailer at the end
Wikipedia: GTA release on PC:
1: 1997
2:released on PS 1999, later on PC
3:released on PS2 2001, converted to PC somewhat later
4:released on PC 2008
I like the idea of having the trailer at the end of the video
I care about the game settings, for instance, I have to know if the keys are rebind-able, since I cannot bring myself to use a controller for most games. and for people with low end computers having the options to lower video settings is important.
It's a pleasant surprise compared to what you'd expect, and actually stands pretty well on its own merits too.
I have never noticed that on the videos. I will definitely look for it now.
The talk over voice in the trailer sounds like a movie epidemic :) the subtitles work well alongside
haha love the expresionless face of him when hes ziplining 20:00
Forget bad textures, the overall visual experience is amazing imo...
The main villain sounds like that actor who routinely plays stereotypical elder, mystical Easterner.
From this first impresions I took two things.
1. It is a Deadpool game done right
2. It is way more worth your time and money than AAA spectacular fighters.
My favourite part of this game was the voice actor for marlow. you can tell he did lines on his own time at various different times, cause sometimes his voice is normal, than it sounds like he recorded it through a 90's tape recorder, then back to normal again in a single scene.
"killing him will only piss him off"... well i guess that sets the mood for this game
I think the game actually looks pretty good. Not Game of the Year material of course, but a solid action game that doesn't take itself too seriously.
It looks like it should star van damme and be watched with good friends, a take-away and insane amounts of beer.
Good answer I think, and now I will be brown nosing for a second, but what I really tend to like about your/TB's stuff is the awareness of the difference between subjective and objective. It really does mean a lot when presenting new games in a fair manner.
What would you even call the freeze frame camera panning thing?
Cinematic Comic strip?
This game reminds me of a Jason Statham movie. Cheesy kind of terribly and doesn't bring anything new to the table but is still tons of fun.
He spent 1 min of a 20 min video on the settings, you can skip when he goes trough the settings (like I mostly do). but I get that some people do find it useful to know what options there are in certain games.
Ringing endorsement there. "Surprisingly competent" TotalBiscuit 2013
Campster (look him up on UA-cam) probably said it the best:
"Nowhere in any definition of a game is fun required. It's a subjective response to a game, not a qualifier for something itself being a game. And if it is in your definition of a game, then your definition is really wishy washy and is really only of use to you and you alone."
A game can be good mechanically but not fun, likewise it can be bad but you'll have a lot of fun regardless.
I didn't know what to think of this game until the trailer at the end. This is a future Jesse Cox LP.
Glad to see a WTF on this strange pop-out-of-nowhere game with a cheesy theme to it. These are the kind of games I feel like we're missing. It's not really indie or super low budget, but it's not triple A either, it's just a mid range game set to please some niche audience that loves cheesy fun. It's great to get something like that occasionally, I might look forward to this if it releases on PSN.
Hahahahaha! They did the giant boulder chase from Indiana Jones? Awesome! :D
This seems like a hilarious cheesefest. Loving it ^^
Plus F-15 Strike Eagle, F-19 Stealth Fighter, Gunship, M1 Tank Platoon, Project Stealth Fighter, Red Storm Rising and Silent Service :P.
I like how TB was fighting with the game to say it was bad, but the game was constantly telling him it was good, so the whole WTF is turned out to be a mess. I'd say this is a good representation of what this game is. Kinda like Deadpool, only thankfully with more colour. Although DP combat was better TBH. But this game's level design is better.
One can dislike a game and still recognize it's quality. In this case, TB is saying God of War is pretty much one of the best spectacle fighters.
I like that he goes through the settings, I don't know anyone else that does that, and it does effect if I purchase the title or not. For example I can't stand "over the shoulder" viewpoint/camera. But if I can change it, then I might buy the game.
Surprisingly, he was actually being quite nice to the game. You should see some of his other WTF is... videos. Like the Ninja Turtles one he recently played.
actually if some settings aren't available that are integral to ones enjoyable experience they can colour a persons opinion, an FOV slider in a first person shooter for instance
no kidding, he really should check his facts cuss:
Kukulkan (/kuːkuːlˈkän/) ("Plumed Serpent", "Feathered Serpent") is the name of a Maya snake deity that also serves to designate historical persons. The depiction of the feathered serpent deity is present in other cultures of Mesoamerica. Kukulkan is closely related to the god Q'uq'umatz of the K'iche' Maya and to Quetzalcoatl of the Aztecs.
Actually looks pretty good for the price. Usually pretty bored by spectacle fighting games, but this looks like it has enough other crazy stuff to be fun
No, If you run a game on a 60Hz monitor then the max fps you will see is 60. All other frames are discarded. The same goes for 120Hz. If you have a 120 Hz monitor it makes the game look a lot smoother and less blurry if your computer is capable of rendering that many frames per second.
(cont)s that can really help you enjoy the game more. It may seem like minor things for some people, but for others it can make or break the game. I myself don't worry too much about settings, but it really does help to have a good one.
06:00 Once again, TB shows his basic knowledge! Those are not spiders, they only have 6 limbs.
It's nice to see that one of these games actually turned out to be decent.
And then we would all go back and watch today and say:
"Its so bad, but at the same time, so good"
^__^.
Yes I agree with you. I think I maybe didnt make myself clear. I didnt mean that his WTFs should be cuts. But he spent a lot of time talking about something he could have shown us, if he had recording.
I loved the stop motion cutscenes. I think they were very original.
Looking at the trailer this game knew what it wanted to be. And surprisingly pulled it off with out falling flat on it's face.
That trailer.... I need this game now.
