Just found this video and it brings back some amazing childhood memories of growing up in Matlock. We were often playing up High Tor and used to go up there for picnics with my parents. I think there was a cafe up there at one point. We also used to hang around the war memorial and the park as well as fishing the Derwent. I never did Giddy Edge ! It makes you realise how lucky I was to grow up in such a beautiful area great memories. In more recent years I lived at the top of Starkholmes backing onto High Tor
Hey... I was born not far from Matlock and I used to walk home from Matlock to Wirksworth via over High Tor and Giddy Edge back in the 70s, I was only 10yrs old..!! I've walked almost every inch of the Wirksworth/Cromford/Matlock areas and all over the Peak District itself. I've been watching your videos for a while now and I'm going through your back catalogue.
Thanks for reminding me that there's a world out there! Went up High Tor years ago, looked over the edge and had a weird compulsion to jump! Wouldn't do it again and haven't been too keen on heights ever since! Apart from that, another great video.
Riber Castle, when it was still a wildlife park, was fantastic for kids. The miniature railway in the park Matlock was great as well. Anyone remember the fish (carp) in the road side ponds at Matlock Bath? Fantastic video as always, never head of Giddy Edge.
Amazing Ant! I lived in Matlock over 40 years ago and went to school just below Riber castle, walked everyday from the top of the hill on the other side of the Matlock through that park (it hasn’t changed much), the castle use to be a zoo and we use to run up and around it for gym class.
Awesome walk and video Ant ..Giddy edge is something Else We did high tor with our friend Patrick Leach ailias The Solitary Rambler who lives in ,Matlock he does walk on youtube ..it was snowing when we did it ...you did a great job on this well done ,mate ..Frank & Lee
It was s real adrenaline rush when I had completed it. I was straight away thinking I want to go around again 😂 Glad you enjoyed it and thank you for the kind words as always 😀
Wow and wow again. You are a hero, no way I would go around there. The views were just fantastic. What a fabulous video to see when you are locked up just fabulous. Thanks so much for taking me along. Do stay safe
Oh wow, made me giddy just watching this! Ive been to Matlicm many tijes but not to Giddy edge, that path is unreal! Well done for walking it & filming at the ssme time. Coming down is much easier. Beautiful video Ant & brought back alot of happy memories from Matlock & Matlock Bath. ❤😊
They let the fireworks off from somewhere up there on bonfire night and everybody down at the bottom gets a great show. It's a lovely place but even if I did on Giddy Edge you wouldn't catch me near it. Lol. Great video. Thanks Ant.
Just turn the video off on the TV, and you are just approaching Giddy edge. What a fantastic film. I love what you are doing and I am going to Norfolk in two weeks to look at that railway on the beach. My sisters live there and I am going to get them to try and research what that line on the beach was all about. Keep doing what you’re doing it’s fantastic😮You are a very special being. Don’t stop. I’m sure that you have a big following of like minded souls!❤️❤️
I'm so glad you are enjoying them. I often think about doing giddy edge again and getting the drone to follow me. The Railway on the beach after all the comments there still seems to be no definitive answer..... Everyone coming up with the same conflicting reasons for it's existence 🤷♂️
'kin hell Ant, I'm trying to back away from the screen and my palms are sweating!! 😨😨😨 Braver man than I that's for sure. Well worth it though, beautiful day, great scenery. 👍❤
I walked High Tor Today il agree with you the views up there are spectacular however when on the top at High Tor it’s a scary view with a sheer drop I did walk to the edge but didn’t want to stand there too long I didn’t do the giddy edge section of the walk maybe il save that for another day it was pretty hard going down as well as going up but I enjoyed the walk like I enjoyed your video of the walk keep up the good work I look forward to watching more of your future videos until then take care and stay safe
It's very reassuring to see there are so many people who share my extreme fear of heights. I always thought I was a real mardy git but at least I now Know I keep good company. Respect, Ant!
Wow, that was a bit more adventurous than my railway walk yesterday - definitely squeaky bum time!! My Missus, who hates heights, nearly fainted when she saw what you were doing!!! The views from High Tor were breath-taking, they brought back some lovely memories of taking our Son to the Heights of Abraham when he was little, and having some lunch in the cafe' up there. Great weather again as well!!!
Another great video, thanks. Have to say you're a braver man than I am; watching gave me the same sweaty palms as I used to get watching Fred Dibnah swinging around the top of a huge chimney on a boatswain's chair!
@@TrekkingExploration I was very lucky and once met Fred, and had a guided tour of his back garden! Wonderful chap... no airs and graces at all, and exactly the same in the flesh as he appeared on screen. RIP.
Same as you, never thought I'd be able to walk Giddy Edge but done it a few times now. Gonna become a time when the path becomes so narrow they'll close it.
Jeez, I had my hand in my mouth as you went round Giddy Edge, good on you, I'd love to walk that but just know I couldn't, just as well I'm in Devon. Fabulous video Ant, thank you 😀
Fantastic video. Perhaps your best yet! Like almost everyone else I really felt the suspense and told myself that you had made the video so you must have made it! Lovely part of the country too. I have made a note to visit the Peak District more when we can all get out and about again.
Hello Bob thankyou so much for your kind words. I was doubting myself the closer i got, then once i'd had a break and taken in the views i just went for it. Thankyou for watching :)
A beautiful day for a lovely walk 👍 🚶. Looks like you had a giddy (good) day out! Enjoyed seeing the footage from the walk 🎥📷🎬🎞️. The girder bridge at the end looked quite nice! Especially with all the bolts visible to the eye. Stay safe mate, GWR

I live 30 mins from Matlock and I've head of Giddy Edge but never seen it ... And I never want to for real! That was a scary video! I enjoyed it but I was scared for you!
@@TrekkingExploration You couldn't pay me to do it! I've lived in this area for 19 years and you show me places that are close by and I didn't know about, thank you!
You can walk most of this without getting too close to the edge and feeling to jelly legged. You can get up really high but still feel safe as the the paths are quite wide and you can stay well away from the edges.
High Tor has to be one of my favourite views. Giddy Edge is an experience - I'm happy to do it but I know plenty of people who it'd make very uncomfortable!
Latest threat is to stamp flat Starkeholmes Allotments site, just below Riber, for some luverly super xpensive houses with views. It's being fought btw.
@@TrekkingExploration That footpath goes up to High Tor is where our horses are, and I live just at the bottom of Pic Tor, Next time I do Giddy Edge on the Mountain Bike I will have to film it. Joking aside great vid and caught the views great. I consider myself lucky having such a great back yard.

A big thank you for walking and filming that. I remember doing the same walk many years ago but I can no longer achieve such feats.

What a breathtaking area! Thank you for bringing some beauty into an ugly time.

That is one walk I would do but I would be alone as other half hates heights.
You and me both! I'd be more worried i think about how the other person was getting on and not concentrating myself
You can walk most of this without getting too close to the edge and feeling to jelly legged. You can get up really high but still feel safe as the the paths are quite wide and you can stay well away from the edges.
