crowcore/corvidcore is a different aesthetic to goblincore: it includes much darker themes kind of a mix of goth and goblincore - so (like the name suggests) crows or witches, the moon. Also, instead of mushrooms and frogs its much more focused on bones, animals, buttons, old keys, rain and dark forests. it copies a lot of styles from tim burton films like corpse bride and misty hollow. :) a video on crowcore would be amazing :D
I have a lot of different aesthetics too haha 😅 i think thats whats great about fashion tho! You can use different styles to express yourself/your mood for the day 😊
@@dressrelief Of course your style is really marvellous ! I'm sorry if I've sounded like you haven't your own style cause it's not true at all you have a good personality too I rlly love you 😭
When I grew up gremlins were creatures attributed to sabotaging mechanical things so when I hear gremlincore it always feels like it belongs as a subculture, if you will, of steampunk. I was born in 1961 (a Space Age Boomer as opposed to the earlier Atomic Age Boomers) and all of what you are describing comes under the heading of retro 70's to me, lol, as it's literally all the kind of things my friends and I wore in junior and senior high. It's an outgrowth of the whole Going Natural movement that followed the backlash against the highly industrial and plastic looks from the 60's. I'm glad to see it make a comeback! I loved disco music but I was never comfortable in the disco fashions.
I actually really like the idea that they are attributed to snatching and sabotaging machines!(and literally anything) I tend to leave a trail of rocks from any and all rocky soils I can lay my hands on so I completely agree with this!

Well I love goblincore cuz it's a mix of grandma/grandpacore, dark academia and Cottagecore. It's cozy, not too much "fairy" Tea, vintage clothes, books and much more :D
Oooh those sound fun to cover! I did talk about grandmacore a little bit in my “lesser known/obscure aesthetics” video but maybe i can do some more on it!
@@dressrelief yeah maybe a little more in depth take on if you feel like it! outfits, wardrobe essentials, history, etc.. there's also a j-fashion precursor to grandpa/grandma-core called "oji girl" "ojikawa" or "obakawa"
Ooh~ great job covering this aesthetic! For another “How to Build” series, I’m hoping for angelcore and/or romantic academia; I’d love for feminine aesthetics to get their spotlight 😁 it’s so pretty! For future vid ideas, I think it’d be cool for aesthetic transition ideas! For example, I like grunge(academia) but also arthoe, so I borrow certain key pieces from one style that way I don’t shop for a whole new piece. (I’m trying to be more mindful so not to add to overconsumption 😅)
I want to add that if you find something you really like and want to make even more gremlincore, you can get an embroidery hoop (6-8 inch) and some floss and use cross stitch to add frogs, acorns, mushrooms, etc.
I would love to see changeling core, it seems to be a subgenre of gremlin core. Also balletcore is the new cool thing so I would love a video covering that
I wear all shades of Green, Brown, Blue, purple, grey, and ONLY an autumn/earthy color pallet but I have so many different patterns and textures that it works. Monochrome looks aren’t bad, it’s the texture and dimension that is needed. Thank you so much for your videos! You are what helped me to design my own style!
Immediately subscribed. This is EXACTLY what I needed. Like, almost scary because I was just about to start a list of the clothes I'm buying next month and I wanted to include this style. Thank you so much. Update: I had to quit my job for school and now I have absolutely no money but it was fun tho!!!!
Oooh glad you found my channel and that’s exciting!! I wanted to go to my local ren faire this year but I’m sad I won’t be able to (would’ve been my first time too ) 🥲
I have a DIY idea for this! I’m not sure how it would turn out aestheticly, I think it could depending on the colours of what you find. But I really think it fits the mindset of finding and making things! It’s a crochet plastic bag, you can cut plastic bags into strips and then turn tie them together into a “yarn”. I’d recommend things like the plastic bags bread comes in, or shopping bags, just saving what you use! Or you could pick up rubbish around your area and clean and save plastic bags you find for it, just be careful with hygiene if you do. I think there’s a tutorial on youtube somewhere for this, but if you can’t find it I’m sure any crochet tutorial word work once you have enough plastic yarn! I feel like it’s great for goblincore because you can use it to carry things you find and you don’t have to worry if it gets muddy or anything! And when it starts to wear out some places do soft plastic recycling :)
Crow/corvidcore is actually a different aesthetic. though similar to gremlincore, it is more gothic and dark, and also more focused on trinkets, shiny things, and found objects.
I Love these videos and i really appretiate that you show inspiration pics instead of doing hauls. And you are sooooo informed about the backstories/problems etc… 💕🤗 Thank you Mariel! 👍
Thank you!! I make a conscious effort not to do hauls bc i hate impulse buying/getting clothes that i end up not even wearing, im really intentional about what i buy and I’m trying to be more sustainable!
Nice video, but to me Crowcore/Corvidcore is definitely NOT the same as Gremlincore, not at all. There is the gathering aspect that is the same but else Crowcore is a LOT about natural relics - mostly bones. It's tied to Vulture Culture. It's collecting "shinies" AND remains. Also the colour palette is much, much darker, mostly black and dark gray.
I was wondering about embroidery or crewelwork, like running from shoulder to cuff, along collar, along trouser/shirt cuffs, or hems? Maybe the top yoke on a shirt or jacket back, or on the top of a shirt pocket? Would this fit the esthetic?
I was wondering if you would be will to create a video with all the feminine (or more specifically hyper feminine) aesthetics. I’m trying to embrace my femininity and can only really find like three different hyper feminine aesthetics. Plus your videos are what i watch when I’m super stressed with school stuff so I would love to watch any video by you
I am of Welsh, Northern European and Germanic decent, and Goblins and Kobolds are a part of that mythology. As the Christians spread they tweaked all the mythology to fit their propaganda against anyone not christian. Did you know that before goblincore came about or Harry Potter there was the attack on JRR Tolkien for his dwarves being antisemitic. There's Always going to be someone attacking certain terms and tropes as being AntiSemite and we should just be aware, but we should also do a bit more research before saying we shouldn't use a word.
I'm slow to this upload, I understand that no one wants to perpetuate a slur as an aesthetic but Gremlins have nothing to do with woodland themes. They're creatures that attack machinery, however, I was a Brownie/Guide and as little girls we were taught about lots of different creatures such as Elf, Gnome, Sprite, Imp, Pixie, Fairy, Leprechaun, Little People and for the Welsh, Bwbachod or Tylwyth....I was a Sprite 🥰
I say this should be called hag core. It definitely makes me feel like Im an old moss and fungi covered hermit hag living in the dark woods under a tree, where all of my belongings are being claimed by the woods and covered in moss and rust
I honestly dont understand why people take affence to the word "goblin". in mermaid ledgends there are many mermaids who kill sailors yet mermaidcore never gets shamed.
thank you so much!! I had no idea about the antisemitism around goblin and now I’m excited to research and change my vocabulary! also had no idea chaotic academia was a thing and its almost my entire personality, so I’m excited to get some items from both!
Very helpful video! Great ideas and u did an awesome job on it, but about the name controversy, my ideas on it are this- I understand the issue with it, but I don't think anything about it has negative connotation and to this day I have yet to see any antisemitic content within the community. I understand how the ideas of it can sometimes yield this problem as this did happen to be a stereotype and I think goblincore is actually good for retaking the name and mythological prowess of the goblin and it's true, much less hateful, meaning. However, the problem at hand is still 100% valid and I address it as gremlincore if needed because the concerns of Jewish people and their problems are important because of the problem the name can cause with that stereotype which in the first place should have never existed. With that being said, gremlincore does and always will have a special place in my heart bc I just love it sm ;-;
Thanks for your input! And fortunately I also havent seen any antisemitic content in the community so far either. I see your point in reclaiming the word, but I just wonder if Jewish people reclaim the word for themselves does that make it okay for others to use it (comparing to the n word which black people have reclaimed but others can’t use it, but of course that’s a whole other story and maybe it’s situational?)? I don’t think I can make that call since I’m not Jewish, but I think it’s worth discussing. In any case I’m happy to call it gremlincore or whatever term makes the most sense and isnt harmful to anyone :)
@@dressrelief I have similar thoughts! It's all a matter of reclaiming and what the Jewish community sees fit, however until the people who are/were oppressed/offended by the term do what they see fit gremlincore will be fine for me and should be for everyone else, as it's not only the right thing to do, it's just not that big of a thing to change a few letters and have the same aesthetic.
Just curious--do you know if very many guys participate in this aesthetic? I get the sense that cottage core and similar aesthetics are generally targeted toward women and (I'm guessing) femme-leaning non-binary folks, but gremlin core seems like it would be one of the more masculine/gender neutral leaning aesthetics in this general category.
Yes I think guys can definitely participate in this aesthetic and I agree, it definitely comes off more gender neutral compared to aesthetics like cottagecore (although masc people can def participate in cottagecore as well) :)
Love this video! Definitely had some good suggestions. I'm a little confused on the whole thing surrounding the word goblincore being antisemitic though? I remember hearing something like hundreds of years ago the word "goblins" was used to describe Jews or Muslims or something in a derogatory way, but now people are claiming the word back? If so, why can we not use the term goblincore?
Hmm but if Jewish people reclaim the word, does that give non-Jewish people the right to use it? I know some Jewish people are ok with the term “goblincore” and some aren’t, so i think it’s a bit complicated. I’m not Jewish so I don’t feel I have the right to say whether or not we can use the term
Definitely worth acknowledging the issues and hazards surrounding the term “goblin.” Would be nice(r?) if this aesthetic’s wholesome community could reappropriate the associations with “goblin” so that the anti-Semitic historical associations can be left behind. But mitigating harm in the now is still worth doing. Thanks for the lovely video analysis.
goblincore is antisemitic? I'm 42 years old and involved in these scenes and that's the first I've heard of it. So, you're actually perpetuating this stereotype by presenting it as proven fact. Let it go and it will die.
I say this should be called hag core. It definitely makes me feel like Im an old moss and fungi covered hermit hag living in the dark woods under a tree, where all of my belongings are being claimed by the woods and covered in moss and rust
