Thank you for allowing us to peek in on your blessed life. I lost my father and mother a month ago I live on the family farm in Indiana now alone and it brings me so much joy and peace to watch your vlog and to remember my childhood with my father on the farm. Again thank you very much.
You may feel there are things you take for granted - we all do. The most telling, touching moment in this vid is when you unabashedly welcome the life-giving rain. You are truly a country woman. There are faux farmers on YT who would curse the sky for dampening their day. Great vibes to you! Mike-DFW.
That rain is liquid gold for the corn and other crops. Hopefully the farmer is as happy as you are to see it and hopefully it is not a day too late. The good Lord listens and delivers!
Hi...I'm the new subscriber catching up on the old episodes I missed, and this one was really good...I laughed hard at the "band-aid in the fritters" confession...and was also very impressed with no-fear Merdie mashing the horse fly from hell with her bare hand. Did Lawrence hear about that? What did "the farmer" say?
Keep doing what your doing, you've got a heart of gold and a pure soul. Wish I could have met someone like you 30 yrs. ago in my life. Loving the channel.
"my 4440" I just loved the way that sounded, say it again some time, ok.... the rain we enjoyed last Tuesday brought 2.8 inches here to The Little Farm and saved my soybean crop. cooler weather was nice too. 63F at 6am on Wednesday morning. your trip to the tobacco farm took me back to my childhood where I pulled leaf just as they were doing. my hand won't fit into the Duke's mayonnaise jar size my wife buys. I really enjoy your videos and always leave you channel with happy thoughts about country life here in North Carolina. thank you Mrs. B
Another great video! Seeing the guys pulling tobacco brought back memories of a time when everybody and their neighbor in NC raised tobacco! I pulled tobacco for 25 cents an hour back in the 1970's!
Mr. Bernard thank you for being on camera. The chance to be on a farm through camera is close as I will ever come to being on a farm again. Your wife has given all of us a speacial gift. Thank Mrs. Bernard. For your Husban and Family . I pray the hay will not get rained on. Your fan . My wife loves Tomatoe Pie George Netroe Deltaville, VA.
I love your happy go lucky way at life, we can only do our best but you make my day. To be such a good loving mom and always praising your kids is a awesome thing to do, but farming is not always smooth you and especially your husband is a very hard worker, I'm proud to see your vidoe,s and what you share with us all.
Good morning Meredith, Thank you for the video and it’s good you have had some rain!! Things are looking up. Take care all and catch you next time 👍😎🇬🇧.
Glad you got rain! It’s always a blessing. We had a slow start to our monsoon season but it’s picked up in the last few days. I’ve always thought North Carolina was pretty but I’ve always felt claustrophobic when I’m not in high desert. Anyway, take care.
Enjoy the cooler temperatures while you can. We had it last week in Oklahoma but this week is hot again. Oh well it is the end of July. Hope the hay does well.
Yes the dreaded sand lugs, that's what you call the bottom leaves of the tobacco plant, hot, fast and back breaking work, most definitely appreciate the worker's, God bless
Your a doll!! Love a good ole country gal and her down to earth talks. Life is a blessing and one many take for granted as life is shorter than many know. Keep up the great videos!! Tomato pie....Humm think I'll stick with my tomato gravy though. How did the okra turn out with the buttermilk as never heard of that one. Yes, it was good that you found the bandage as that might not be such a good thing to find at dinner time as fried okra can be a main meal... at least to me as I love me some fried okra. Yall come back to see her now as she is hoot and good ole loveable country girl. God bless Meredith!!! ❤🙏 Better work on them there💪 as she might ask for a rematch....LOL
Hey there Miss Merdi. Those tomatoes really looked tasty especially with the cheesy topping. Good to see you getting better weather and things a just so green there. I love how Hubby just sends that tractor and gets it over and done. Winter is almost over here.. So I'll brace myself for some decent high temperature to come . Best Wishes To you and Your Family Meredith from Jeff and Ella in Australia
A thoroughly enjoyable video, Merdie! I truly felt your happiness with the rain...I've been there. And you're giving Austin perspective on the farm from the road...("Good eye!")....priceless for someone her age. Oh, and I was proud of you for confirming you'd not grabbed a handful of Duke's. ;)
@@ThisFarmWife_ btw...I'm really envious of your farm(s)...the lanes...the stopping to open gates...the tree-lined fields...the pastures....reminds me a lot of when I was a kid/young man/college graduate helping Dad on ours. I own one of those farms now... Your recent post of driving along the "total loss" corn reminded me much of ours...we always had a narrow path between the trees 'n the corn... I totally related to your and The Farmer's journey in the truck that day. (and yeah, I was a bit concerned you were gonna get slapped by a tree branch. Nice ducking. ;)
Hay!! I'm thrilled my prayer worked the other day, well a week ago tonight. I hope it's not too late for your crops 🤞. We still have a little mud. You say tomatoes we down here we say tomartoes. You say basil we say bazil 🙄!! Fun vlog thanks! 😊😊
That was some good rain ya got over there! Send some of that my way please! Salt is a must have! Daughter almost got ya there! LOL. Some nice looking hay ya's have no doubt! Have a great weekend!
Miss. Meredith y'all are busy ! It's that time of year . It's crazy here too ! Summer finally decided to show up its HOT ! Just in time for me to build a 60'x 200' riding arena for a neat older lady 70 yrs. old and rides her horses everyday . Austin gets any bigger she's going to win if you ain't careful ! Lol take care and Lord Bless , Joe
When I was in high school, late. 60’s a few boys and girls would go to the tobacco fields in Connecticut, yes Connecticut, to work in the tobacco fields. The fields were covered with acres of netting to raise the temperature a few degrees so the plants would grow. They said it was hot hard work. Pay. Average! I had farm work to do at home and never went. The old movie, Parris, is a good movie about the tobacco fields.
Hey thanks for the tobacco part. I loved it. Brought back memories. Although :) only 4 years ago. Was Austin interested in it? Hmm, smart cutie. And strong! She almost got you. Enjoy her. Before you know they"re calling you grandma ;) Time flies. Thnx for the cooking part to. Wow two inches rain! Awesome! He"s good for us. Amen?
Once again it is always a pleasure watching your videos. You are a real farmers wife. Real, funny, smiles, helpful and o ya cooks great. Then your kids really loves you this shows you made the right choice on being around your kids alot. Life is good for you everyone is always happy. On the funny part LMAO on the band-aid. Talk later
Another great video. I’ve never had it but that tomato pie looks good. Those tomatoes looked good enough to eat like an apple. Sure glad you got some rain. We’ve been getting a lot of rain here in Oklahoma. Anyway we always enjoy your videos. Your daughter really gave you a run for your money. She’s pretty stout. lol👍👍👍❤️
There is something soothing about rain, need it or not. It is the life blood of our planet, I guess. 😁. Your thoughts on the preciousness of life are spot on. Every day is a blessing. I never take a day for granted. Good or bad, beats the alternative. You are pretty awesome and you definitely inspire people with your story, honesty and humor. That hay might not have been tall, but it was thick from what showed on camera. Have a great rest of your weekend. Oh, and I liked the tomato pie idea. 😁
I have never seen tobacco taken in that way. My grandpa and uncle then cousin raised it back when there was still money in it, but each stalk was cut, and a steel cone put on the end of what looks like a tomato stake, and the stalk was pressed over it about 4" or so from the base, and slid down, and that one stick would hold about 6 stalks. We had about 6-8 people cutting stalks and one man spudding them.... sticking them on the wooden stakes. Once the field was done, then we stacked them in the wagon, then back to the barn, and my uncle would climb up inside to the top rail, and we would feed them up to him to hang so they could dry. I have just never seen it done the way your friend does it. Working in tobacco is HOT work.
ahh fried okra that's something I miss. Cant find it here in Wisconsin. Growing up in Texas that was a regular part of the meal. Nice BBQ sandwich and fried okra maybe some potato salad. I love your videos never fails to help me remember things and always puts a smile on my face. Glad you got the rain you needed nothing better than a good long soaker to perk things up.
I cropped tobacco for a few years when I was a teen ager. Was not happy doing that job but it gave some money to do things. We cropped by hand also. They have a machine to do it but we did it by hand the guy we worked for was old. So the old way is the only way. I think he just didn't want to spend the money to buy that upgrade. That pie looks good got to try it thanks for the video.
