Taste just like bluegill or any other panfish, just with a higher meat to skin ratio. I haven't used the grasshoppers for bait, but that's not a bad idea.
Hi, wife and I heading down first part of Feb for a week. We love to fish, have a pond as well. Have been down a couple times shore fished and also canal fiahed near Goodland got some sheepshead and mangrove snapper. We're staying near Naples. Would you be willing to share some coordinates and 2-3 locations where we could stop and try to catch some peacocks? Would help minimize the time it'd take to search. We'll have travel rods and miscellaneous lures and plastics. Or could email you direct and/or touch base when down there. Anyone else wanna reply with location tips would be appreciated.
I don't usually give out spots, but this canal is so long, so well known, and all of it produces good fish that I don't mind in this case. Literally any spot along the trail can and will produce fish. You can try here and fish anywhere east or west for several dozen miles. 25°45'43.1"N 80°49'19.7"W
@@TheFishingNomadwe had also went through the roads into the transition airport area looking for a way to enter by those ponds cause saw another vid a guy said there's some huge peacocks in there.
@@TheFishingNomadHey thanks, class act!👍that's the east entrance to Loop Rd, wife and I actually went through there couple years ago, saw all those gators.
So we will be staying in Homestead. Do you have to drive long on the Tamiami to be able to safely pull over and fish like you did? If you have coordinates i can enter in google earth, that would be cool. Thxs
Start here, 25.761427, -80.482699, and just drive west until you want to fish. Some of the road doesn't have much access since there is a guardrail along it, but people still park their cars and fish there. If you want to pull over on the inside of the guardrail like I did you'll have to drive around 10 miles west I think.
Thanks. Can't believe you replied to me. Quite a drive from Punta Gorda where we winter, but I hope to do it this winter. Subscribing to your channel NOW! Thanks again from Cape Cod.
Yes you can, there are a couple boat ramps and kayak launches along the canal, but there's plenty of gators so I don't know if that's something I would be comfortable doing. Early December should be okay, but not the best. Late April to early June would be the best times, but anything besides the summer is okay.
@@TheFishingNomad thank you very much for the info. I’ll be driving down the first week of Dec from Ny and really just want to catch new things. Not much of a fisherman but enjoy it. Hope to catch a Peacock and a gar while I’m in Florida. Thank you for the info.
I agree. A lot of people are turned off by the price, but like I said at the end of this video, the lure still looked brand new even after all those fish.
I dont think you could have picked a worse place for the opening monologue if you tried. Wind noise and what sounds like a highway right behind you. Question comes to mind, Why are you fishing so far from the water. Seems to me you can get a bit closer to the canal? Maybe theres a reason for this?
I mean this entire body of water runs parallel to Tamiami Trail so there's a highway right next to it during the entire stretch of the water. If you've seen some other videos filmed here you'll know there are plenty of gators in there. Often times they'll hang out close to the bank, are hard to see, and chase your fish as you're reeling them in.
Great question and I personally don't have an answer. You can see what the state of Florida says about eating fish from Florida waters at the link below. www.floridahealth.gov/programs-and-services/prevention/healthy-weight/nutrition/seafood-consumption/_documents/fish-advisory-big-book.pdf
Great fishing. Great location. Not so great fish handling and release.
2/4 ain't bad.
Beautifull Exotic's! How do they taste?
Have you ever used them or the huge grass hoppers for bait for some thing bigger

The best fishing spot in the nation
Would be hard to argue that.
A few miles to the west, the canal gets really narrow and shallow. You literally see hundreds of gators. It's incredible
Yeah I haven't been that way too often, I think only three times or so, but certainly more gators out there. Very cool to see.
I fished those canals for 30 years when I lived in Miami. Alot of fun for sure !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks for the comment. I can see why people from all over the world come down here to fish.

Awesome. Hope you had a good trip.

Nice video. About how far west of Miami were you?
10-15 miles west of Krome Ave.

Two questions for you, can you fish out of a kayak there and would it be fishy in early December?

Why don't you like the Mayans? They're great fighters for their size.
Just because I'd rather catch native species.
Big ups ..great
Thank you.
i love the everglade but is a little far for me i am in tampa 3 1/2 hr i have to make plan to go fishing in those areas
Well worth it if you can make a day out of it. Good luck.
Heading down there next month. Been ditch/bank fishing there 4x already. Drive from Pensacola. Thanks for being informative
Glad I can help. You're picking a good time of year to head down. Some of the best fishing all year is in the mid-late spring.
What is that location?
Tamiami Trail Canal, roughly 10-15 miles west of Krome Ave.

Been fishing in Alligator Alley. Got my hand on 2 PEACOCKS MAN!!!!
Those peacocks are beautiful fish!
That they are. Thanks for watching.
Awesome. That Nikko tadpole just produces.
Nikko products are absolutely worth every penny. Once you use them you will know.

Just found your channel . Awsome brother
Thank you very much. Welcome.
If you like bowfin, you need to go after some Bullseye Snakehead in Broward and Palm counties.
I've caught some snakeheads before and they're fun, but not the same. One of my favorite things about bowfin is that they're native.
Nice fishing and a great location, I can't imagine fishing somewhere with an alligator watching me.
Freaked me out the first time. You get used to it though.
Are those edible at all?
Yes.
@@TheFishingNomad and the next question is. Should you eat them or not? Thanks for the reply.

Mayan Cichlids are delicious, I like them better than Crappie, Peacocks are good too
