I absolutely LOVE watching people's first reaction to Eddie. Finding out what the rest of us already knew for years.
I can never get enough of watching people astounded beyond belief by this man. The contrast of emotion from the start compared to the end is epic. People go into this thinking, Oh, another guitar solo. Only to find its truly in a class by itself. Great reaction!
I keep watching them too. Partly to see their reaction TO Eddie, and partly to just hear it again.
Nobody other Will be like Eddie Van Halen.......unique, innovator....legend❤
The Doo comes close in my opinion
100% agree.
Eddie has been touching hearts and souls for nearly 50 years now even after his passing. RIP GOAT!!
You gotta understand one thing about this performance that makes it legendary unlike any other. He was BLACKOUT drunk the entire time.
I was listening to this album for the first time in a long long time the other day. This was brain-breaking for a young girl in the early 80s. The sheer joy of his performance here is how I remember him ❤️ lovely reaction, Sarah
Thank you 😊
The GOAT. RIP, Eddie.
Chills!!! R.I.P Eddie! Gone but never, ever forgotten!
What a GENUINE reaction to a GENIUS performance.
Thank you 😊
R.I.P. the GOAT of the axe. We will all miss you and your incredible unique sound. Will always remember my Van Halen shows.
At 12:00 when Sammy screams Mr. Eddie Van Halen I burst out in tears. His playing and music has been the soundtrack of my life and evokes such powerful emotions in me every single time I hear it. Had the privilege to see him live at least 15 times and I thank God that I was blessed enough to witness it. This is one of the greatest musicians in the history of this world. We love you always. Long live the King Edward Van Halen!!!
This is the greatest live rock guitar performance and performer of all time. This blows away any live performance of anything Hendrix, Clapton, Page, SRV ever did. It's so technically skilled yet diverse. Anything those other players ever did live was 99% blues based. This has so many different pieces, arrangements, sounds, and techniques that it is far superior to anyone else before or after.
My sentiments exactly...I like these other guitarists but Eddie is something else spectacular. I saw them in concert and was amazed how perfectly he played...sounded sooo good 💔
Lady, it looked like you were keeping up with every note. Eddie was amazing. I especially liked the cello / violin sounds he could pull out of the guitar. Beautiful reaction. 🌹👍
That little delay-drenched piece is called 'Cathedral' off the Diver Down album. And it has GOT to be one of my favorite bits of 'I still can't play it' music out there. And it sounds as great now as it did when it first shocked the crap out of me. I thought it was a friggin' KEYBOARD until I saw him playing it.
Absolutely amazing creative talent. Requiescat in Pace, Ed.
@@billcichoke2534 appreciate the info, keep working on it. I hope you figure it out. 👍
@@michaelwheeling7422 Even if I get close, I'll always prefer listening to Ed playing it.
I seen Van Halen when Sammy came on. Best show's I've ever seen. 55yrs old and I saw a lot of Van Halen tours when they came to Northern California. Eddie is a God
Do more Van Halen Songs ! The absolute greatest band from the Late 70’s and 80’s. Great songs!!
Absolutely...also the 90's
My Guitar Hero will live forever in the music he loved to play. His techniques, passion, innovation, and drive makes him a legend and the GOAT!!! We are lucky to have been on this Earth at the same time as him. We are privileged to have grown up listening to his magnificence, if he thought he was great or not. No one Ever, could be better that King Edward Van Halen.
Eddie was the first at many new things and a true legend . I was lucky enough to catch Van Halen twice live in the 80,s and they were SO good ! Just awesome to see younger generations discover this man and his many talents .. RIP Eddie you will be missed Sir ! Great reaction and you have music in your soul !!
That man is my 45 year superhero!! He did 1 thing in his life to the highest level 🎚️. Seen him 5 times....jaw on the floor....true the god of guitar 🎸. Miss you Soo much Eddie! You brought us a lot of Joy......I can't get over how he plays 90 percent of that solo on the neck ... Rather then strumming it like the rest of us are taught.....the master who changed playing, gear, the guitar pick-ups and those Cool spray painted stripes .....rip master Ed....we miss you More than you'll ever know!
I grew up with these guys in socal. Saw them live before they ever got a record contract or open for anyone. I was sold. Eddie started with the piano, then drums and then traded with his brother and Eddie took over the guitar. The rest is history. I have mad respect for Jimmy and Stevie but you just watched the greatest Rock and Roll guitar player that's ever lived. Period! RIP Eddie.
Another Dutch legend!! R.I.P. Edward!!
Well I'm only halfway through the first half of this video but this is the best reaction to this performance that I've seen. I've never seen someone feeling the guitar quite like this.
For more guitar craziness you should check out Steve Vai doing Tender Surrender live, and For The Love of God (with the Holland Metropole Orchestra), also live. Steve Vai is a legend for sure, and a class act.
Thank you 😊
Yes to both of those plus Steve Vai - Teeth of the Hydra (Official Music Video). He's truly a master.
You said it. He was a legend. May he rest in peace
"That's the most important thing is how much he enjoys it." Very well said, Sarah ❤ Yes, there will never be another like Eddie.
The magician of the guitar. The best
For me Nr.1
Go Eddie Go! One of the greatest if not the greatest rock guitarist.
Yes Sarah,
Eddie Van Halen RAISED THE BAR for many guitarist at the time of his bursting on to the scene when the original Van Halen appeared on the scene with Original Band , Lead Singer , David Lee Roth..!
Together , they were a force to be reckoned with..!
Worth listening to their Original beginning Hits...👍
Thank you Sarah... 🙏
Thank you 😊! Could you share a link?
@@SarahDengler Here you go, Sarah: "Van Halen - Jump (Official Music Video)"
I used to play this for my son when he was a little boy and he would jump up and down on the couch along with the song!

Here is the Van Halen Story...
ua-cam.com/video/yfUzIrxszn4/v-deo.html
you should see the video Van Halen Live "unchained" 1981 Oakland California. Van Halen was known as an incredible Live band , and in 1981 The Entire band is at their peak and it is an absolute Circus of a video that you will never forget
That is why Eddie Van Halen is considered to be the ultimate guitar God.
your reaction is priceless.....Eddie is my favorite guitar player
As good as Eddie Van Halen is, what makes him so remarkable is what an innovator he was. He created (or at least greatly improved on) a lot of these techniques in the 70s. He must have truly sounded like an alien back then as his style was such an evolutionary leap compared to everything else in the guitar world. There are very few people in music that were as innovative as EVH.
What a genius
I was a kid in the 70s and can confirm that he truly sounded like an alien back then. And we love it.
@@orange_cat definitely from another planet!...from Wyoming USA 🇺🇸 🤠
Agreed! Thanks for your comment
You have been blessed now!!
I learned how to play guitar watching this home video!
Van Halen's been the soundtrack of my life and life's been good!
Miss you so much buddy!
Van Halen forever!❤
I was there 1974 E.VH. invented that way of playing guitar. Everyone else just copied. They had to make new music notes just to write this playing technique on paper. Yes Eddie you are the G.O.A.T. no doubt about it. R.I.P. my brother. EVH. 🤘
I must have seen at least a hundred reactions to this amazing video, but yours is hands-down, my favorite.
He is definitely among the best👍🏻👍🏻🥰!! This was super enjoyable as well as your take Sarah👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻! Thank you so much Sarah, and stay well and safe😁👍🏻👍🏻❤️!
Thanks so much! Stay blessed 🙌
Instead of Eruption this should be called Eargasm
That would be more appropriate 😀
A smashing solo. But just for fun check out 2CELLOS - Thunderstruck [OFFICIAL VIDEO].They are just great.
heh heh...I saw your little yawn before starting and laughed thinking about how you would be waking up real soon...;) I've been watching Eddie since 1976 at backyard parties in the San Gabriel Valley and this performance has always been the best part of a Van Halen show. Saw him at Pasadena Civic show in 78 and US festival in 83 after they became infamous. EVH is he truest rock artist I've ever seen.
Ed built his own guitars to develop his sound that one was called frankinstrat
Ah the good old days! When Edward lit it up, it was EARgasmic for all. Seeing you experience it, and the overwhelming joy that overtakes you, for a moment I got to "go back in time" and feel his power again through you. Your videos are a great pleasure to watch. There are MANY that are connected ...as yourself. You have to be connected to recognize the same.
Perfect reaction! I was mind blown too. Make sure you listen to some more Van Halen like, Jump, Panama, and Hot For Teacher. ✌❤
Super super Klasse Musik 😘😎👌👍
Nice 👍🏻
The best period !!!
It's crazy that you started this with a yawn. You should make this song your morning alarm.
Hahaha I was tired when from the day's activity, filled me with plenty energy though lol
The guy who introduced Eddie at the beginning of his video isn't his brother but the guy playing the drums IS Eddie's brother. The guy who introduced him is Sammy Hagar, who coincidentally is the first person I heard at my first concert in 1978. He was solo at the time and was the warm-up act performing before the headliner band, "Boston" came out. He was introduced as "The Red Rocker, Sammy Hagar". At the time, I didn't know who Sammy was, but he put on a good show. He replaced David Lee Roth as the lead singer for Van Halen.
That my dear, is pure genius, the likes of which, bless humanity but once in a generation. He was indeed, the modern day Mozart, and I miss him dearly.
His brother is the drummer. Big ass set. 4 bass drums across the board.
legend rip glad u found this u honor him =)
There are many people who can do this type of thing now, but no one was playing like this, at least not at this level, back in the early ‘80s. The part of the solo starting at 5:30 was one of the very first tapping guitar parts I ever learned to play. The guy is legendary.
If I remember correctly, there's a version out there where he uses a cordless drill on the guitar.
You are correct. The beginning of the song pound cake you can hear the drill through the guitar pickups.
It's 1987. There were no phones or fake playing. This is the real world
This is going to knock your socks off, he he
Sending love young lady. I just love we can connect across the world. Steve Vai picked up on Ed's techniques but really, Yngwie Malmsteen is the 'went ballistic on guitar' virtuoso guy . I found him when he was with Rising Force. ready for arpeggios?
If you want to check out some of the best guitarists in the world, then you can check Joe Satriani with " always with me, always with you " ( official video ) or Steve Vai with " For the love of God " ( album version )..both very beautiful " songs ".. Those guys are insane. Actualy, Joe Satriani was Steve Vai's guitar teacher..he also taught Kirk Hammet from Metallica and many others..that guy is a guitar legend 🙂 thank you for another great video 🙏
Thanks, I'll check them out 😊 🙏
Joe Satriani and Steve Vai are almost on the Eddie Van Halen level of guitar greatness. I love all three.
Believe it or not, Eddie was drunk during this concert performance, and when asked about the guitar solo later, he had no recollection of doing it, yet he still did an amazing job. Eddie Van Halen is a true guitar hero, who will never be forgotten. RIP Eddie!!
Rather doubt that. He was very serious about the product. He was just pulling interviewers leg.
Cell phones were not quite in abundance back then.
Saw this live for 14 bucks. 😎
He actually would get a guitar & take it apart & make it his own. If you will notice Eddie does something you don't see others do which is "Finger tapping". He is the only one I've ever seen do it. There will never be another Eddie. My 2 fav. guitar players will always be Eddie Van Halen & Angus Young.
InRe, 0:21 ✨💫✨ “Are those phones?” 😳🤳🏼
💭 {In 1986?} 🤭
🙂 No, love … ☝🏻😁
… Those, are lighters. 🔥 😉👍🏻
Cheers, 😏👌🏻💖
If you're looking for recommendations-- Brazil by Declan Mckenna. It's a fun/feel-good song (:
Those weren't phones, they were actually cigarette lighters. This video is so old it was filmed in 1986 before cell phones.
I noticed that you yawned at the start of video.😴 I thought 💭 this girl is about to wake up! 😎😁
It definitely did!
:) Might be time to add another insane guitarist to the list by finding the live video of Steve Vai - Tender Surrender.
✌🎸🤘🙏👍❤❤❤
🌞🔥💆🔥...💜..👌
Dig it*....Hott Reaction
I hope he gave that guitar another cigarette after the way Eddie used it!!!
.................Please Remain Seated!......................Peace!
The Tapper.
WELCOME TO THE BROWN SOUND HONEY ?
Bic lighters.
😂 LoL
Ohhh thank you lol I was wondering
@@SarahDengler Thank you, dear, for your response here and video too. I'm still mourning Eddie's death in 2020, and maybe you are now too in kindness and heart. Thank you, sugar
This isn't Eruption. This is just a long guitar solo with bits of Eruption and other things thrown in. If anything, there's more of Cathedral here than Eruption. There's some older, and better, late 70's live versions of Eruption out there that people should be reacting to, or just listen to the studio version from the first album.
Now you know what "A Religious Experience" is. :)
white men CAN jump…RIP Eddie Van Halen
Alex Lifeson was and still is better than The Tapper.
Oranges versus apples. They're both gods in my opinion. Both have their own unique styles and trademark sounds.
Sarah.....check out Yngwie Malmsteen and Eric Johnson
