Greatest guitarist of all time
Simply put the greatest guitarest ever.
The greatest guitar player of all time EVH
Witness the brilliance of the single greatest guitar player of all time. Nothing else can be said.
He was very skilled and very interesting. I hate rating artists though
I've watched probably a dozen reactions to this video and you're the first one who recognized that Eddie was turning the volume knob during that one segment. That's how he makes it sound like it is bowed like a violin. He turns the volume down, plays the note and then quickly turns the volume up. By doing that, it hides the "attack" of the note but then fades into the note, making it sound like it is played with a bow.
Exactly. And speaking of bow instruments check out anything by "2Cellos". Mindblowing.
Not sure if it the volume or the gain he is using...
@@shamelessbastardgames9158 It's the volume knob on the guitar. I've done that technique (I'm not as good at it as Eddie but it's a cool effect). All instruments have what they call an "envelope" which can be mapped out showing the attack, sustain and decay of the instrument. By starting with the volume down and then fading it in quickly, it hides the normally quick attack of a guitar pick. It makes it sound more like a bowed instrument like a violin.
@@mikemiller3069 I am a drummer not a guitarists so i will take your word for it ..
@@shamelessbastardgames9158 The most similar thing related to drums that I can think of is when they "gate" the drums. It is done in the sound system whether recording or live when, sometimes the drums might ring on a little too long and not sound as clean as you want. The sound person uses a noise gate which shortens the ring by fading it out quicker, thereby cleaning up the mix. But the gate is used on the decay part of the drum's envelope whereas the technique Eddie was using is on the attack. It's hard to explain other than that but I hope it made sense.
Eddie, Is the true Guitar Hero !!!!!!!! RIP Eddie, he is with the Guitar Gods now.
What a great observation when you said he's playing his guitar like a piano. I never thought of it that way when you consider he was a classically trained pianist. Great reactions, y'all!
You realized that he was twisting the volume knob to create the swells. You are one of the few to realize this. Well done.
I must have seen this video a hundred times and never noticed the shoe on stage! 🤣
You’re witnessing the last guitar god from the golden age of rock n roll.
When young women and men react to true talent,I am truly happy, keep the faith.
As the story goes, Eddie was pretty drunk during this show, and afterwards, he said he had no recollection of even doing this guitar solo, lol.
His son has this exact guitar in his possession. An absolute priceless piece of rock n roll history.
Blazing watching this my self he's effing amazing
Eddie was the first at many new things and a true legend . I was lucky enough to catch Van Halen twice live in the 80,s and they were SO good ! Just awesome to see younger generations discover this man and his many talents .. RIP Eddie you will be missed Sir ! Great reaction !
An innovator, never to be emulated. Still brings tears to my eyes when I see this
The King......rest in peace GOAT
I've watched this a hundred times at the least. And his life story. It's amazing he came to America and had to learn English. He was a piano and drum player and never learned to read music. Built his own guitars because he couldn't afford to buy the good stuff. Listen to Michael Jacksons...beat it. That's him. He did it free of charge
His amazing performance was based on playing the piano. He won several piano compitionions even though he wrote an composed music. He could not read music. The Einstein of Guitarist and music.🥰
Eddie was a modern day marvel. RIP. No one today plays like this. Every few hundred years we get to see real musical genius.
I was blessed growing up in the 80's. This was our party songs.
R.I.P. GOAT!!
Great reaction!!
I never get bored from watching this solo and the reactions to it and the joy it brings.
102 seconds, is how long it took a young guitar player from Pasadena to change rock guitar forever. The finger-tapping technique Eddie Van Halen deployed on “Eruption,” the guitar solo from Van Halen's 1978 debut album was not new, musicians had been tapping fretboards of instruments for generations. But the speed, dexterity & rich tone he brought to it was so unprecedented it sent a generation of guitarists scurrying back to the woodshed, trying to figure out how Eddie made his trademark sound. Though thousands (millions?) of metal & hard-rock guitarists have mimicked his technique & tone since, none has equaled the virtuosity of “Eruption.” There's only one "Eddie Van Halen" period!
Drop them thangs BABY haha
Next level. Anyone putting down Eddie is envious.
Eddie Van Halen he will always be remembered as the Johann Sebastian Back of the electric guitar. Just like back then, he lifts us up to heaven with his musical majesty, and now he does it on the great heavenly stage.
RIP: 1955 - 2020 See you forever master😔🤘
y'all's reaction to this is my fave... by far!
I have watched this performance over 1000 times (even had the VHS when it came out) and never noticed the shoe before.
My favorite part is when you noticed he was using the volume knob to create,"volume swells." Right after he depresses the tremelo bar and then let's the note rise as he walks to the next tier. He is a genius.
I saw him on this tour 86 in California
this is ed, the real sound and amps live.
👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼🏆👍🤘
Eddie started on Piano. And excelled at everything he touched. Then drums but alex wanted them big brother win. Eddie moved to guitar. An interview about this concert. Eddie was partying hard. Doesnt remember this performance. And still it's a masterpiece.
Eruption was the intro piece to You Really Got Me. It pretty much starts at 6:27, Before and after that are pieces of music from other song intros and instrumental pieces Eddie did thru out the years. Miss you so much Eddie. Everyday I strap on my guitar the 1st thing I do is play a VH song.
I have mad respect for Jimmy and Stevie but you just watched the greatest Rock and Roll guitar player that's ever lived! RIP Eddie ❤
Gary Richraft flying turkey trot live REO Speed wagon guitar solo best ever try it you will believe early 70s Best ever
Fuuny thing is this was just a Warm Up for Eddie Van Halen. If You want a crazy guitar Solo Check Technical Difficulties by Paul Gilbert.
Great reaction to one of the best guitarists ever. Van Halen changed the way a guitar was played and sounded during the eighties. Listen to "Jump" and "Panama".
Pretty shure, there were never water in his cups and he smoked like an active volcano. Like him for that lifestyle in an akward way!
He lived his life as rockstar of his generation. I'm doing the same, but get no applause by my friends. R.I.P Eddie.😉
I saw Van Halen live in concert and Eddie did his Eruption solo. What I appreciated was he went to every part of the stage so different sections of people could watch him perform. He does the same thing here. He doesn't ignore anyone, no matter what seats you were able to get.
Rush!!
Really love the reaction thanks guys
another first time hearing said, doesn't his hand get tired? i thought for a minute, no. ohhh baby. lol, stamina.
When he was a kid him and his brother Alex were classically trained pianists. 👍🏼
he is top 10 easy guitar heros ever , and more and this is unique, he is top 3 more influents because he open the spectro about the guitar vision, tnks from brazil
Also check out his brother alex van halen pleasure dome drum solo...he's good too.
FYI he never took a lesson which is absolutely amazing
God made a God when he created EVH
Check out "Tender Surrender" by Steve Vai. You might have already, because the is the first of your videos that I have seen. Love your reaction to this. I'm about to check out your previous videos.
You should hear aleast 12 different instruments in that solo, he can make blast like male elephant, like a trumpet, or wild stallion winning like a challenge to another, violen, church organ, chimes, according, harmonica, if you ever find my head stuck in a 5 gallon pail of dry cement listening to only, Rock, jass, blues, rap, country, ect ect, pull my head out. Good reaction, most talk over a 4 min song n miss 70 percent, thanks my brother n sister.👍✌️.
Ain’t Talkin’ About Love
After that it’s all good on choices
Gotta react to some Joe Satriani.. Made of Tears. Vevo. or One Robot's Dream. Vevo. That is if you like guitar.... 🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸😎
Watch the movie The Wildlife from 1984. Donut City was on the soundtrack. Eddie wrote the original score for the film. FYI Eddie also has a porn credit for the movie called Sacred Sin in 2005. I mean for song Rise. He remade a song called Catherine from a different porno. Both videos are on here on youtube.
mans literally playing fl studio irl
You know it's about to get real when he gives his guitar a cigarette BEFORE he starts playing....
He gave Michael Jackson the best it lead Guitar section for Free.
Please React to the Eddie Van Halen song called "Respect the Wind" from the movie soundtrack Twister.
Sitting around smoking some Jenny Kush and found your video!! 🤘🤘
Hendrix...Woodstock, please
You Guys just watched Jesus play guitar, oh,he was threee sheets to wind while doing this.Straight Muusician.

You Guys seem to be the most diverse React channel i ve ever seen, Could You maybe React to Some Songs by Band Maid for example Freedom Live Version its Really amazing, and if You like that Band Maid and the Song Yolo.
and The Song by my Favorite Artist Frank Zappa called Black Napkins at the Mike Douglas Show its ONLY a guitar Solo but damn its good.
Dolly Parton too!!!!
Sorry guys, can’t watch a clip that doesn’t have the audio and video synced. Maybe another time
volume swells.
Organize your play list for the love of god !!!
seen many of these first reactions. classical background. "fill in the holes". ed wrote most of his songs on a keyboard. on the neck, lol. a guitar is like a woman's body. the cough at 6:05, al missed. ed is. met some Korean woman that "says" i teach piano and play the violin. ohh yeah? with excitement. who do you like classical, four names? one was mozart. i stopped her, amadais? blank look.....
some dude, a heavy set black guy posted his reaction to Ed. six, maybe eight years ago. the first one. black fokes do not like that high pitch sound. micheal jackson does like it, "beat it".
al missed his que.
He twists the knob so that you cannot hear the note as it's plucked.
Y'all need to check out a brother named Stanley Jordan. He uses a tapping technique kind of like Eddie except he plays full chords by tapping. He also incorporates the melody within the chords while tapping the whole thing. There are even videos of him playing two guitars at once.
Great video but the sound/picture is a bit off-synch..
You guys wanna hoot ? Check out this UA-cam link to a video of one of the greatest guitar players I’ve ever heard. It’s Justin Johnson playing some homemade blues on his 3-string homemade shovel guitar. It just may be the most badass thing I’ve ever seen. Enjoy this: ua-cam.com/video/V9-ltPsbw9g/v-deo.html
Eddie invented the bar or string tap method.
This is stupid nerd Mode
Sure was teh craziest solo.. BACK THEN :) nowadays its beginner god tier solo level
Still is. You're high.
please recommend these other "beginner gods"?
If you're talking about hand speed, Eddie wasn't trying to be Yngwie, and in his later years, the old codger was way faster than he is here.
If there are videos of better players, please provide links to their performances. I look for great music first, then great players.
Yeah using computers today any one is a "artist".Try using just your hands and imagination
hmmm...
guitar soloing like this is waay harder than it looks.
Ed was a master guitarist, a master innovator, a master performer and master showman.
You can have great chops, lots of technique and speed, but that doesn't mean you're a guitar god. If you cannot interest and engage your audience, you're wasting everyone's time, and Ed would be the first person to say just that.
Following in the path of an icebreaker is a lot easier than being the icebreaker.
Please find anyone in any profession who was SO good at their job that they built their own equipment from secondhand scraps and using that homemade equipment STILL rewrote the map of that profession, blazing trails that people today still struggle to follow. I'll wait.
no disrespect to Gary Moore, some fake wannabes out there.
