Finished this video sooner than I thought so posted it early lol
It's crazy how people can still find stuff to complain about for cameras now a days. I love my REDs and will be using my Komodos for years to come but I will ALWAYS have a blackmagic cam on me for what they do. Bought a 6k full frame just because of the price alone..
The most justifiable complaint of a camera ever was the battery life on the bmcc 2.5k. lol. Love my reds and bm’s as well

Hi do you think shooting red for youtube is usless or overkill ?
@@yadekeffieh8139 if it competes with your budget or workflow, then yes. If it doesnt, then no.
Thanks because people say that on youtube red dont make any différence with the compression.
Really like your chill delivery of your perspective. It feels like you’re not trying to persuade anyone.
Thanks man I appreciate that. I definitely use affiliate links and stuff but I try hard not to push a product on everyone watching the video because everything I review isn’t for everyone.
It's crazy how Flo from OfTwoLands is slowly becoming the reference with BlackMagic especially since his Alps landscapes open gate. His content is awesome.
Flo is so talented
I was on the fence about the 6k Cinema camera, but as I recently picked up the focus assist to shoot braw on my S5, I been more than happy with the quality boost and versatility. The only downside is weight.
That AC definitely sounded cinematic. Great deals right now and I agree it could be a big year for Blackmagic Design. Thanks for the video Tyler!
Haha so cinematic. Thanks for watching dude!
I've been shooting with the BMCC6K FF and I'm in love with it. I hope you enjoy it as well! Highly recommended. I even like the form factor better than the PYXIS, but that's my personal opinion. Great video!
That’s amazing! I’m a fan of Pyxis. Got some hands on with it at NAB and fell in love with
@@TylerEdwards amazing dude! Can’t wait to see the follow up video to this.
Just bought a full UMP 4.6K G2 package used + some additional accessories for it, total price 3900€.
Includes:
- Body in good condition
- EF + PL -mounts
- BM Ursa viewfinder
- Shoulder rig set + BM handle
- Smallrig top & side plates + 15mm rails
- V-mount plate + 2 V-mount batteries
- CF-card
- 7" monitor with d-tap and SDI cables
- Standard tripod quick release system
And I already had a magic arm + follow focus. Feels like a decent deal!
That was a great buy! You got a great camera package for that price.
You made a much better decision you get dynamic range which the bmpcc FF aint got. Sdi instead of shit hdmi. You get way better mount way better frame rates it just is a real cinema cam aposed to this full frame mess.
@@Lizzzzzzy921 I agree. This came during the 6K FF price slash as well, so I had to think extremely hard on the pros and cons of each system.
In the end, I wanted a large heavy professional tool that enables me to work in a determined fashion. On the flipside, I have a large collection of full frame EF lenses that I would've been very familiar with on the 6K FF since I photograph with them on my Canon R5.
Next, I'm looking into some cool native s35 lenses.
Nice to hear that you like Blackmagic cameras Tyler. I thought you were all into RED and didn't like BM very much. And thanks for the warning that the sale is probably going to end soon. I happened to get one (I used Josh Sattin's link to B&H a couple of days ago).
Here you have a good example of the low light capabilities of the BM 6K FF. Some people complain about its low light performance buy I think it's a camera that if you don't crank up the ISO too much and expose thinking in what you going to do in post with the noise floor, you can get pretty acceptable results in low light. Since you are very knowledgeable, it would be nice if you can explore this avenue (low light performance) and share with us your recommendations and tricks.
This short film was shot with BMCC 6K FF and Leica R's (24, 50 and 90mm) by Guido Pezz, an Argentine director and cinematographer based between Italy and Australia. It was graded with Nostalgia LUTs.

A lot of the content over the last year has been on red Komodo/x because that’s been my main camera system but I love blackmagic cameras. Honestly, I love all cameras haha. They’re all good
Damn, that price is great. Wish the 4k got a similar sale!!
Do you think the ursa G2 is still a great buy even though its no longer being updated/supported? My budget is capped at $3k because i still need to pick up lights & accessories. I already have a 6kpro. I was looking at the pyxis but this deal seems tempting.
I wonder if the ursa sale also ends on 5/31. Adorama doesn’t have it in stock, but they do show the sale price.
If $3k is your budget and you need a second cam, I’d 💯 hop on the bmcc6k FF sale and use the rest of your budget for lighting. If you need a super fast sensor readout and prores, the G2 is a great buy at that price point, but if that doesn’t matter to you, then I’d consider a 6KFF and put the rest towards lighting. Lighting will stick with you a long time.
Tyler how do you like the BMCC 6K? I’m worried about noise and banding that I’ve seen. It seems worse than my pocket 6K but didn’t know if noise wise anything jumps out at you? Thanks!
Haven’t run it through low light yet but I will definitely give it a look!
what are you shooting that noise is an issue?
We bought the 6KFF on day one of the discount. Already owned one but price was so insane it was too hard to say no. Even if it’s just as a backup camera if something happened to the one we had.
Smart move!
Advantage taken.. totally agree, no brainer for the 6KFF :)
Noice
I've been shooting on a C70 since launch, but picked up the BMCC6K in the sale. I had a pocket 4K a while ago and have missed it in some ways so thought I'd just go for it. I have to admit though I'm really hoping they can somehow add ProRes or H.285 for those instances where I shoot for agencies and hand footage over (but not holding my breath). Also a little nervous about rolling shutter but I think as an interview A cam on sticks that open gate is going to be interesting for sure.
Rolling shutter shouldn’t ever be an issue for interviews except for maybe banding from house LED lights if you can’t turn them off.
I doubt any other formats (other than the 8bit h264 proxy) will make their way into the camera unfortunately.
@@TylerEdwards Yeah interviews will be fine, but I might want to use it for other things, might just have to see on a case by case basis or use a cropped mode if it is an issue. I agree that they probably won't add ProRes, but I am definitely curious as to why. They seem to be abandoning it wholesale which will push this camera, the Pixys and the new Ursa Cine's away from quite a few use cases. I know a few people who had or have Ursa Mini's and Pockets and never shoot raw because they just want to hand over a universal codec to an editor, so they'll likely be pushed away from Blackmagic altogether I suppose. For me, for now at least, I'm keen to try the BMCC 6k as it is though.
there is a huge shake-up happening that will rock the industry which is making it necessary to off-load stock. also we all win!
All here for the wins!
Honestly I want to love their new cameras but I played with the ff model and I thought it was bad, its not the same as the 4k / 6k I'm hoping the new cinima ff 12k is epic and has better BQ and QC.
The little I’ve tested with the FF, I’ve been impressed, but everyone has different needs but your opinion holds a lot of weight with me. What didn’t you like? I got some hands on with the new ursa at NAB and it seems much better BQ. It really felt like the didn’t hold back
@@TylerEdwards so I liked it a lot as well at first but I found that you can’t really push it as hard as you could with the previous cameras in terms of the image. Also obviously the modern look is under exposing a little bit I found when you don’t give the sensor of light the image really falls apart. I’m talking banding and fix pattern noise. We had it side-by-side with a pocket 4K and the pocket 4K had no issue in the same situation.
had I been in the market for a camera that 1k off the 6k full frame would just be too good to pass up 🙀 wonder if there'll be a more permanent price drop soon 🤔
Ya what an insane deal. That would be wild if they did a permanent price drop so soon but BMD likes to surprise us so who knows haha
Hey, I noticed you get Davinci Resolve Studio for free with your Blackmagic product purchase. Since you already have it, could you please share it with me?
Only reason i skipped this one is HDMI that is limited to 1080p. For B,C etc cameras that i would use for live productions i just can't do without any more. Also sale is US only?
Not sure if it is US only. I figured it was global.
Through B and H its limited to U.S. Others have made videos saying certain retailers in their countries also have the sale but its country specific.
It's the real deal!!
For sure!!!
Stick the 4.6k sensor in the Pyxis body with Gen5 colour science. 👌🏻 maybe that’s the game plan?!
I’d buy 3
Or the OG 12k sensor (maybe a 6/8k cut)
Yeah personally I think if you are going to ditch ProRes you need in sensor raw scaling like the 12k sensors have.
I love BM but for the type of shooting I do mostly having to shoot at 6k to get a full sensor readout is a killer for data when only 4k is required.
@@christopherduran9926 that would be nice, but I’m gonna wait until the Pyxis has a flip out screen and built in ND’s first cause that will come soon enough.
@@jamesalexanderbarnettdp9479maybe it’ll be called the Pyxis Pro?
I don't see this G2 sale in the UK unfortunately, I was just about to pick one up if it were.
Oh dang! I assumed it was s global sale
@@TylerEdwards it might be a B&H photo clearance price. I don't see it advertised elsewhere at this price.
Unlike the 6KCC blackmagic hasn't tweeted it out either, so either it's B&H photo exclusive, or, B&H photo have listed the price too early than they should have before Blackmagic announces it.
apparently the sale was valid on CVP too, it ended a while back though.
@@kevinmpham the 6KCC was on CVP, but the Ursa G2 wasn't. However I just picked up an ex-hire G2 on eBay, with a shoulder mount kit, oled viewfinder, recording handle + extension arm for £3K, in pretty great condition - so I'm not too fussed on it not being available here now.
@@alanlavery ah congrats!
The funny thing about BRAW vs Prores is that on the 6K Pro you can't even record 6k in prores. And exporting 5 minutes of 6K (full spec on the 6k pro, so 6144x3456) takes 52 seconds to convert 5 minutes of braw (on M1 Max or newer mac) on Davinci Studio. What I am more disappointed in being a 6K Pro owner, I just got the 6K FF and am a little disappointed that you can't do open gate in 60 or even 48/50 fps. Why 36??? When is 36 even acceptable?
As for the Ursa mini pro G2, $3k is a huge discount, but you can see on ebay used ones for selling for way under $3k before the sale, so maybe they're really pushing people out, while the FF didn't sell that well and they want to get people talking. I mean this is one of MANY videos I have seen about the discount, so clearly it's working.
Sometimes you have to present something to people in a way that would make them to accept it. Art is about experimentation. There are many feature films that were made shooting with 48 fps. Just like experiment with the 36fps and see where it takes you. If you shoot great contents then nobody would notice that you shot it in 36fps. Don’t do what others do as an artist you should find your own style that is unique to you but nobody can do.
Black magic is great. I want the new ursa cine. But the way my bank account looks... i can keep using my iphone.
The new ursa cine looks awesome
@@TylerEdwards I would love to use that for vfx stuff. I wish my ursa 12 worked I would still have it. 😥
What about no prores?
I talk about it in the video 👍
I wish I could have snagged the BMCC6K at $1575 USD. I love BRAW.
There’s still time…
(only if you have the budget)
As of right now the sale is still valid. Tyler has a link to the camera at B&H
People shit on old cameras but I think its really dumb the ursa has a sdi port and a pro cinema mount instead of imo a worse camera than the og 6k
I wouldn’t consider EF a pro cinema mount. It’s convenient, but PL is a more “pro cinema mount” imo. I’m assuming you’re talking about the g2?
How they still trying to sell these cams with 13 stops dynamic range when all other cams have 14-15+
Because they produce a beautiful image and are affordable but what cameras at this price point have 14-15+?
They know Canon is about to drop something on June 5th. Need to get people to make a purchase.
Definitely possible! The new canon cinema camera is really impressive. I think 2024 will also be Canon’s year
It's still 1500 right now
It’s still may 31 😉
where is the EU SALES, do post if you know
These aren't sales is my take. These are permanent price drops or at least until they deplete stock. By flooding the market at these super low prices, it's impossible for them to raise the prices again and continue to sell these.
They did a temp sale on the og bmpcc and it turned out to be a great move. Got even more people talking about them and they still sold really well after the sale ended
All these discounts mean new cameras are about to drop
New cam announcement after the Pyxis/Ursa cines would be wild.
I'm old enough to remember when the Yugo cars went on sale too. Blackmagic cameras, the Yugos of cinema cameras 😂
If only it wouldn’t have such a shitty rolling shutter performance
There are scenarios where that is certainly an issue but most times when it is a non issue.
@@TylerEdwards combined with open gate anamorphic mode its quite of an issue for anything where you just dont hold the camera and not shooting in 60 fps, any dynamic movement looks bad
Why is no one that is making these videos just telling people that it is only the (Leica L), no a huge issue but why not mention it?
I’m confused. Is the L mount an issue to you? I think it’s great
