The editing is horrible , the movie has no intro, the gore is decent and the plot is messy it’s so bad but so good at the same time? We watched this recently for a movie review club.... oh my lord it’s a drug trip. The dad is the scariest part of the movie I swear-

Adding a bit to my previous comment, The Stuff is in many ways a mirror image parody of 1950s films like The Blob, instead the Blob gets *you* to eat *it*.
Paul Sorvino's militia leader is like a riff on the heroic Army general who saves the day, but with actual 50s values (racism, anti-Communist), basically poking fun at Reagan-era patriotism.
Enough is never enough. CANT GET ENOUGH OF THE STUFF.

This movie is very 80s, in terms of its targets, especially marketing, fad foods and politics. I'm sure it's very dated to modern audiences, but at the time it came out, it was spoofing lots of stuff you didn't see targeted so sharply.

I was cracking up when the honey bunches of oats lady came up as soon as I said “are you hungry?!” Perfect!
So I finally watched it. Every scene feels like there was supposed to be 3 other scenes preceding it, and now you’re watching it without context. Although I can’t stop singing “enough is never enough”, I feel like the songs in the commercials are more addicting than the actual Stuff.

Michael Moriarty is one crazy dude, I love him. I also loved him in the Masters of Horror episode "Pick Me Up" where he plays a trucker serial killer who develops a rivalry with another serial killer and poor Fairuza Balk has to deal with both of them. It's got to be probably my favorite Masters of Horror episode.
Masters of Horror is fantastic. We actually met Mick Garris a few months back and I talked to him briefly about the show! Cigarette Burns, specifically. Very very nice man.

I remember watching this film on the Horror Channel on Sky TV, it was probably around 2am with everyone else asleep and I didn’t think it would freak me out as much as it did. It put me off eating marshmallows and whipped cream for a while 😂

Not only are these podcasts entertaining and interesting but all of the Michigan references make each of these episodes even better. The Jiffy factory tour was the most delicious field trip I ever had.
Lol I remember a few weeks ago for the Patreon celebration stream we tried watching this movie and we were ALL confused by the opening scene. And then after the opening credits YT shut the stream off so I'm glad you guys are doing a review of it now for the podcast.

There used to be someone who walked around my dad's town every week taking pictures on hi camera that had no film in. Everyone including him knew that there was no film in the camera.

Two things. First thing, I still can’t get enough of your guys intro and how well it’s edited. And second this movie is a huge mess but it’s oddly enjoyable. From the blank and stupid characters to the fact that a good portion of the military are high schoolers

Fun fact! That was the same rotating room used in Nightmare on Elm St, as well as the Dancing on the Ceiling music video and in the Wes Craven's New Nightmare recreation of the original Tina murder scene. Pretty much any rotating room scenes uses this same room. I guess they don't need to build more of them because how often does something require a rotating room shot?
14:43 We took a tour of the Jiffy factory too! Mom printed off Mapquest directions and somehow we got lost and ended up in Hell, MI 😂 She ended up stopping at a gas station and asking “is anyone going past the Jiffy factory?” A trucker told her he was going to be passing close and could take us there, and Mom went back to the car and thought “I just got us kidnapped,” but the guy really did take us there!

I remember my mom turning on this movie on while I was in her room, and we were watching it together, until she fell asleep, and it’s so not-fresh in my memory, that I had to look it up to be sure I wasn’t having a super weird dream. I remember being freaked the hell out after Charlie’s death, because those kinds of effects really scared me at the time, and I remember the kid’s family being super weird and eating I think, only The Stuff, which I’m not sure if that made him run away or if he ran away because they were freaky, but I remember him running with like, just a backpack which made me go, “that’s not a lot to run away with if he’s trying to live”. I don’t know, I just think everyone should have their own experience watching it, even if that experience is half alone after your mom falls asleep, and you’re scared shitless.

Out of all movies I have watched “The stuff” was the most traumatizing movie I had ever watched in my life, I wouldn’t be able to eat because of how paranoid I was of “getting infected” with the the stuff, and I would be scared of sleeping on pillows with cases, because of that one scene when they slept in the hotel and get attacked by the stuff which was in there pillows, I was also a kid at the time so my parents were not happy with me scaring myself
I thought I was the only one who watched this as a kid. Granted I’m only 17 so this isn’t in my generation but I love older horror movies and I’ve seen so many and just the fact that someone is watching the same strange movie that I did is amazinggggggggg

Grew up in the 80s watching horror flicks late at night on HBO, The Movie Channel and Showtime and this podcast was such an entertaining stroll down memory lane! The Stuff was a favorite for some reason lol

1) Jiffy is the muffin mix. It's national, I've seen it all over the country. 2) Chelsea is awesome. You make the counts your own, but she often low-key steals these.
Jiffy is a number of things. Its cornbread, muffins, pancakes, peanut butter etc. What James is talking about is Betty Crocker the cake mix.
