Mixing on a Presonus 16.4.2 console for "One:40" at a St. Patrick's day event - Event Video 44

- We are mixing outdoors for a U2 tribute band called "One:40". This is a sound system setup for an outdoor event. The weather for this event was not that good. Some rain, but a lot of wind throughout the event. Right when the event concluded, more rain appeared. An opening band named "Nine Times Around" performed Irish Rock.
Mixing during rain can be a challenge; but when wind is involved, it becomes a bigger problem. Due to the weather, we were unable to get more (and better quality) video of One:40.

For this event: Presonus 16.4.2 FOH console; RCF NX-45A mid/high speakers, one Tannoy VS218DR (dual 18" sub), a QSC PLD 4.2 for monitors and one for the sub, dbx DriveRack 260 for crossover.

Great video. Wet gigs can be so frustrating - nice to see that you kept your cool & kept the show going. I'm glad to see that someone else also just tosses wet gear in the vehicle loose and then airs everything out afterwards
We all know the struggle when you end up with the 'bunker' view to keep the show going. Respect!
Thanks for your comment!
GREAT JOB SIR
Loading out in the rain gets tedious, quick. Had a horrible load-out last summer when rain stopped play. I'd take a load out in the hot, cold or the dark over a load-out in the wet.
When I see all the work you doing wow, I have respect for you !!!! When I was you
I should consider to go to work with a Digital mixer near the stage and mix
with a ipad in the front of it.
I think I was the last one who switch from analog to digital in my area, but now I don’t to go back.
After a long day, no cleanup the FOH area and roll-up the Snake cable ect.
I do also festivals with a digital mixer near the stage and at the FOH booth I work with two or sometimes three ipads, I’m recording those festivals also and mix them in my studio.
Before with the analog desk I have been using a HD24 for recording and now I plug a 1TB disk in usb input of the digital mixer and ready to go.
When you become older you have to make the work easier :)
Thanks for the reply. I do use iPads that belong to the bands I mix for (when the band's are providing their own PA). They are nice to use; however, we do not use iPads as a service provider. I think iPads are great tools for certain things, but not for everything we would do as a service. I hope to have a video in the near future covering why we don't use iPads for our service.
@@stageleftaudio Thanks for your answer, It took me also awhile to accept this concept. For large events I use three ipads beside each other, its like I have a real console in the front of me. It save me so much work that I now agree with it to use them. When you come older you have to look to a solution to keep the work doing and in the previous way I was more dead the next day then a live, so I had to switch to a better solution for me, now I can mix always at the right spot, But I like as before the real consol !!
@vanpdroneshots - Agree 100%, digital is the way to go. Here in Central America most venues are small, there is literally no place for a big traditional console & snake cables. My X32 Rack is always on stage beside the drummer & I mix from wherever I want in the audience with a light weight ultrabook laptop - X32 Edit allows removing all unused channels / faders from a view, so it's rare I need more than 1 page of faders on the laptop. With most bands, everybody uses Ears, so I don't even need to bring monitors. All band members get their own personal ears mix. Get a lot of strange looks from un-educated audience members & bar owners as the band plays silently & I stand on stage with them designing their Ears mixes before a show - LOL. I guess I'm about the same age as the gentlemen in this video, but all I can say is this is soooooooo much better than how it was when I was young!!!! Never look back...
sorry i missed this one, but it does look like it was very challenging
Thanks Dennis. It was a lot of work to keep everything safe.
👍✅
Hy good job 🤘
Thanks!
I just ordered the same NX45A setup for fronts, how loud can they get, and how far, in your experience, can they push the sound outwards? Its obviously hard to say a certain amount of people, but wondering if its decent for outdoor stuff up to 2-300 people.
The NX45A cabinets are very decent. We use them 99% of the time as a mid/high cabinet (along with subs) for FOH duty. They project very well and sound decent. We use the cabinets almost entirely for outdoor events with crowd attendances close to 300. Of course, the type of music being performed and crowd density can change the perception of the cabinets. We have been very satisfied with them. We use other RCF speakers and have been very pleased with their performance. There are a few other UA-cam videos showing people using the NX45A cabinets; those videos may give you a better view of them working. Congrats on ordering them.
@@stageleftaudio Thanks, yeah I'm very excited to hear them, praised by many!
rain is the worst... had a festival last year where it rained for 2 days on the build, kinda let up for the show, and then rained on the out the day after... lost an input card on my AVID stage rack due to moisture, which was super frustrating...
There is a lot of overhead with managing rain; sometimes it doesn't end well. Thanks for your comment.
For the sub amp you should get a 4.5 to drive it and did everything got wet and you should do another vid of checking up
For the smaller shows, we use the 4.2. It's usually more than enough. For the larger shows, we use the Crown Macrotech 9000i amps on the subs. Everything on the stage got wet, and some things in the FOH tent. And yes, I am currently working on a "checking in" video covering the process we use to check-in "wet gear".
What frequency range does the dashboard center speaker play?
Plays the sum of both channels?
How to set the scene? The stage will be between the center speaker and the tweeter, so for the headrest microphone the delays are the same, how about the midrange speakers in the doors and the subwoofer?
Thanks for the answer
Are you asking about center-fill speakers and what frequencies they usually use?
@@stageleftaudio Yes, the center speaker in car audio what frequencies does it play.
I'm sorry, I do not know much about car audio. How the center speaker would be used, would probably be up to the auto manufacturer and how the car stereo is configured. From my personal experience, the center speakers I have listened to have been mid-range only for some cars, and full-range in other cars. You may want post your question to a car-audio forum... there is probably more knowledgeable there!
hey i have a question about bridged mono, when you set it on your amp can you daisy chain 2 speakers on the bridged amp
It depends on the ohms of the speakers you want to connect AND, it depends if the amplifier can run a certain ohm load in a bridged-mono setup. In this video, the single (dual-18" sub) is a 4-ohm load. The QSC PLD amp can run a 2-ohm load in bridged-mono, therefore, I could have daisy chained another 4-ohm cabinet to the amp. Running very low ohm loads in bridge-mono mode is very dangerous to many amplifiers.
You will need to check what your amplifier can support!
Why not make FOH in trailer with wider glass windows? Like OB van of TV Network.
Sounds like that could be a good idea.
Hi SL. In which configuration do you run your crossover, stereo or mono?
Hello. We run everything in mono.
Haaa.. one min beer on the stage, next min gone.. lol. Good job guys, weather events are the worst!!!
You saw that!
@@stageleftaudio i love this channel. You really do a great job at showing how much work we put into gigs. First to arrive, last to leave!!!
Thank you!
Bisakah saya bergabung kerja disana.
