    “We need answers.” - Chris Kaba created immediate danger to the lives of others around him by using his 2 tonne car as a battering ram, and the danger that he created was ended by an officer performing his duty. Now confirmed by a jury in court.

      You’re dodging the key question. Does such behavior and prior history of conduct warrant the death penalty? Was deadly force necessary (justified) by the immediate circumstances? If not, then he was murdered.

    • @theshadow5800
      @theshadow5800 2 роки тому +2

      @jimmy Hard to say without experiencing being there as it all unfolds. I’d like to think that first act is to avoid getting myself killed or injured seriously, so I’d get out of the way and stay out of the way. Then I’d further assess the situation to see if threats to self or other persons were realistic, imminent and executable; take action according to neutralize that threat. Anything other than that, I would what needs to be done to control and mitigate things short of use of deadly force. Basically, if I’m looking down the barrel of a gun, I’ll kill instead of be killed. In all other situations, I’ll use my brain and time and resources to deal with situation. My warrant card is not an 007 license to kill when it’s convenient for me to do so.

    • @theshadow5800
      @theshadow5800 2 роки тому

      @jimmy You nor I don’t know all that happened and what we do is mainly the police version and perspective, truthful or not. I think the common understanding is the victim was a suspect of a crime, acted criminally when confronted by the police, and was shot dead while fleeing away from police. Allegedly at one point, the victim threatened police safety but did not injure, fled from that episode and was shot in the back, unarmed nor never giving any indication of being armed. So, that’s what I’m going on. It’s not hypothetical that I don’t see anything here that warrants deadly use of force to be used running away, at distance with their back turned to the user of force. Their was no urgent nor emerging situation that demanded he be murdered.

    It’s time for the police to walk away from these black communities because they have lost the plot. They’re damned if they do and damned if they don’t. Leave them to it as long as it doesn’t spill out of their hood. At least they won’t riot if it’s tit for tat stabbings/shootings from their own.

      @theshadow5800 2 роки тому

      Non-white more youthful males are at the highest risk, but truth be told everyone is at serious risk and jeopardy. When a society’s government grants impunity to a class of people like police and military, it naturally results in institutionalized acts of impunity. Mix in relaxed controls (or hardly any controls in the U.S.) on firearm and you have a recipe for urban warfare. It starts small with seemingly isolated outrageous individual acts that get the public’s eye. This usually reveals a history or pattern of such behavior. Once that cat’s out of the bag, there’s little restraint to continue pretending things like this aren’t the norm. Once that’s out in the open and a large segment of the public actually realizes they’re literally prey to the predatory element of authority (police), the gloves come off. Civility takes a backseat for those that want to protect themselves from those who were suppose to be doing the protecting but instead use it as tool to oppress and destroy. The differences between the U.S. and UK are gun availability (more guns in private hands than people). The historical origins for such problems between white ruling classes and everyone else in both countries are rooted in empire, conquest, slavery, and acts of genocide that have never been properly addressed

Of course, I am not sure, but from past similar events this is how I understand that things will unfold. It’s not a reliable stance to take to expect public institutions to admit to or correct their own misbehavior. Independent outside civilian oversight, not influenced by politics or bias, even has its difficulty in getting truth and justice into the light of day. Yes, more information is needed. At the same time, if someone has died at the hands of the police then that deserves scrutiny and attention in and of itself. Even if it turns out to have been unavoidable, it needs to be investigated properly and not just by the police themselves and the IPCC; the police have shown no hesitation in the past to spread untruths from day 1 like they did to Stephen Lawrence's family and they cannot be allowed to make the story die as a result. There should be initial protests no matter the facts because there needs to be an incentive for the matter to be taken seriously. Stage 1, demand scrutiny, stage 2 protest wrongdoing if found.

      @@PHlophe To be fair it's not the words themselves, it's what they imply. Whilst "all lives matter" unfortunately usually implies that no special attention should be given to the racial element of police violence (and often it means no attention should be paid to the issue whatsoever), by contrast I think what some people are going for by mentioning misogyny is that most people are threatened by police and therefore most people should do something about it. Appealing to people's empathy and good nature (almost their charity) will only go so far. That's idealism. But there's an opportunity for actual mutualism here. That's not to say we are all treated the same, just that there's an opportunity for something like a coalition if both groups can speak up. Not competing for the limelight (yes, including white women monopolising the issue) but raising the profile of the issue together.
      With that said, is there anything specific that you think more people should know about? Or actions they should take?
      I also want to say that maybe I agree, maybe unity isn't always good - different groups will have different aims, like reform versus abolition, or freedom from violence for only middle class people (while keeping police around to control those who aren't doing so well out of the current economic system) versus working class/all people. That applies within the feminist movement though, not just womens' liberation versus black liberation. There will always be these kinds of traitors and so no unity can last forever. But that's way down the line and like I say, I think what some people want is to bring people into the cause, with the sense of urgency that comes from being directly threatened the impunity that the police have and the role they play.
