Snare traps are brutal and perhaps mom bit her foot off as many animals when trapped do just that. She is darling and so is her cub. Dogs that have their injured legs amputated romp and play effortlessly on three legs. Her stump could be still healing and tender and thus the limp and her resorting to walking on her hind legs. She is precious and so is her cub. Animals have such a love of life and resiliency. Thanks for sharing this heartwarming video.
@FatDaddy4Fun - I was thinking the very same thing. It would be a great opportunity for science to follow the "nature, nurture, evolution" thing. I do wish Mrs Bear and her baby all the best. She is the best example of a super mom I can think of. Not only has she survived her heinous injury, most surely at the hands of man, but she has also adapted in such a way as to care for her cub. Kudos to the Creator for a job well done.
Poor momma bear. I wonder what happened to her leg. I can't imagine having to adapt like that, and with a cub on my hip to boot. Prolly why she only has one. I wonder if she's still alive and kickin' today. Prayers from me for this strong momma bear xx
I feel so sorry for it, but at the same time, I'm like 'fuck yeah, you go bear' Looks creepy, when it was walking through the trees...Like when you can't see the fact that it's a bear.
I wonder if she was born with 3 legs or lost it in a trap or something. There is no blood so its not recent and fully healed. Amazing how nothing will stop animals will to survive.
Forgot to comment that the black bear has a slender body (weasel like if you would say) compared to their cousins (brown, grizzily, kodiak) who have burly bodies. Making them far better climbers and allows them to extend their body when on tree's if they're trying to feed on hives or eat eggs out of a birds nest.
This is quite common - especially in baited hunting areas in the Northwest & Canada. Inexperienced hunters anxious to get a bear don't wait for a broadside shot and fire at a bear quartering to or head on and hit the shoulder. The animal runs off and eventually loses the arm and survives just fine.
Ok guys, see 001, and 133, Notice the marking on the left shoulder and the size of her feet. Go to around 114 and notice the marking is missing AND the feet are real small !
maine is the only state to still allow bear trapping and even at that i think its only certain areas where you can do it so the probability it lost its leg in a trap is pretty unlikely
Bears walk the same way humans do-on flat feet. Bears normally walk on all four paws. But because they have flat feet, they can stand on two legs with great stability. They can even walk upright, but only for short distances and very slowly.
that is amazing at the fact he adapted like that. This is not fake because bears can easily learn to walk on two legs for a very long duration of time. Go to the circus every once in awhile or something.
For whatever reason, bears walking on their rear legs look just like people. So much so that when a bear opened a rural restaurant back screen door to the kitchen and walked over to the freezer and turned around and walked out with a mud pie, the owner was at first convinced it was a person in a bear costume. I gather the odor and grunts must have been convincing though. Inuits had been under the impression that polar bears were humans living in disguise!! I adore bears!!!
Poor sweetheart! Makes you wonder if she got caught in a trap or what? It will most likely result in a shortened life-span for her. The noise of those bugs was driving me crazy! I felt like swatting around in the air and got all itchy! lol!
This is real. Anyone that's been around bears knows they can walk on their hind legs. This bear is a smart one, mainly out of necessity. Nice video capture. One things for sure, that dam bug needs to be swapped.
@dizawnofwizar ..I mean, in this specific instance. If the 'ability to adapt to crappy situations' was evolved in, then alright.. but that's hardly 'proof' of anything
The real danger here is if the cub starts to imitate it's parent and begins to walk upright. If this behavior is passed on to future generations and bears start walking around upright with two good paws, all they'll need is opposable thumbs and humanity is doomed.
This scares the shit out of me.
Had to turn off sound because the mosquito was freaking me out
Am I the only one swatting around my head and on my face trying to get the goddamn fly to go away?
They're evolving.
The first step in the evolution of bear people. Soon the humans and the bear people will live together in harmony like nature always intended.

Great video. Sights like this make all the hours spent in a treestand worthwhile.
They see me strolling, they hating!
what if like, the bear ran standing like that
very cool video, I'm glad the bear lived through whatever took her leg away, and can still do her bear things and take care of her baby.
If they all start doing this and develop thumbs, we're so screwed.
no because we still have guns

you had better be watching out for your pik-a-nic basket

That's creepy, I would freak out if I saw a bear walking upright! ! Scary! !
I feel so sorry for it, but at the same time, I'm like 'fuck yeah, you go bear'

Wow you always see a bear stand upright, or maybe take a couple steps, but this was amazing to see it walking around.
the bEAr looked like a really tall person dressed in black when it stands
They are getting ready
Poor baby. She is amazing, how she has adapted. It's a shame that she had to.
I gotta get ME one of those bear suits... they look quality!
I wonder if she was born with 3 legs or lost it in a trap or something. There is no blood so its not recent and fully healed. Amazing how nothing will stop animals will to survive.
likely got caught in trap and chewed off his foot
@Nickodemusodurn it probably *is* what most people think is a sasquatch.

In watching the momma bear (who I feel sorry for with only 3 legs), it reminds me of some of those low-rider pants some of the kids wear.
i spent half the video flailing my arms around my face like there were flies here.
yogi bear is smarter then the average bear
Interesting! I wonder if the cub will take to walking upright!
Amazing to see their legs move like that!
That explains BigFoot pretty well

Explanation for bigfoot sightings ?
When I came to this video I was thinking about seeing some crazy ass bear with three legs, not that he lost a leg, lol!
It's amazing to see that a bear missing one arm survived from when he was a cub:)
The skeeters sound HUGE there!
this video was filmed by my father in our hunting spot in Quebec
Thats mother nature adapting . Nice to see the bear used his head to over come his disability
We need to get this bear a leg because she's freaking me out! Super ingenuity at work here, though.
Oh... that poor thing... I want to give it a hug.
now just imagine what would happen if other bears pick up on its walking habit
@baybee35 It may be considered a form of evolution, but not within the definition constraints of Evolution by Natural Selection

bears standing/waling on 2 legs probably are the reason for people thinking they saw bigfoot.
Bears walk the same way humans do-on flat feet. Bears normally walk on all four paws. But because they have flat feet, they can stand on two legs with great stability. They can even walk upright, but only for short distances and very slowly.
the buzzing is very unsettling
I bet that is really hard on the bears hips. Sure they CAN walk that way, but they aren't designed to.
Whoooooaaaaaa!!!! This is truly amazing! If this guy ever picks up a weapon, humans are screwed!
that is amazing at the fact he adapted like that. This is not fake because bears can easily learn to walk on two legs for a very long duration of time. Go to the circus every once in awhile or something.
poor bear probably had to adapt walking upright since he lost one of his legs
That bear looks like a high society snob when it walks upright.
I would say a true testimony to the Creator. All His Creatures have the ability to adapt, and this just proves its so.
That was the most annoying mosquito ever. I kept wanting to smack the headphones off my ear.
That has to be the most inopportune mosquito ever.
For whatever reason, bears walking on their rear legs look just like people. The mosquito sound was very disturbing and brought back bad memories...:(
man that looks surreal- thanks for the post
could of warned me about that mosquito noise haha I'm wearing headphones! that freaked me out!
just wonder if the cub is going to learn to walk upright too wouldnt that be amazing
that would explain alot, includin the smell
i know the guy who filmed this, it's near Forestville, Canada, Qc
This is friggin hilarious. It looks like a man in a bear suit when it walks upright.
"And so the human came walking around here like this..."
I'm from Austria and i saw something like that on NatGeo
it looks like he is about to go steal some picnick baskets
Those mosquitoes are bigger than a human and speak their own language. Pretty sure I saw one reading a book once.
Poor sweetheart! Makes you wonder if she got caught in a trap or what? It will most likely result in a shortened life-span for her.
The noise of those bugs was driving me crazy! I felt like swatting around in the air and got all itchy! lol!
Dude if I saw that in real life I would shit myself.
That bear's posture is better than a humans.
My money says the animal got caught in a nasty bear trap, and then chewed its leg free. Poor thing, imagine how long and painful that day was.
That's probably the coolest thing I've ever seen. She reminds me of Bigfoot, though. It's kind of creepy, seeing a bear walk like a human!
so that debunks all the big foot sightings, they were just 3 legged bears walking upright. :DDDD
smokey?!?!?!?!
YOUR ALIVE!!!
I just keep wondering what it would look like if a bear RAN upright.
looks like he fell from high tree and broke his arm - his right hand is bended
i fell bad i dont think they will make it long
This is real. Anyone that's been around bears knows they can walk on their hind legs. This bear is a smart one, mainly out of necessity. Nice video capture. One things for sure, that dam bug needs to be swapped.
The bear walks with a cool strut. He kicks some fucking ass.
She may have only three limbs, but she's a good ass mom
this is probably how we evolved from bears originally.
looks like that ranger finally got to yogi
I am more than tempted to quote yogi bear..
this is how man evolved to walk on two legs
that is such a person in that costume
He's just walking around like "Hey guys. Whats up?" lol
Walks like a fine country gent.
@dayhall11 It seems fine. Bears are very strong creatures. There ok with geting and armed lost in a fight.
The whole time i was watching this i was thinking how could we have doubted Al Gore when he said he was super cereal about ManBearPig
Next thing you know, this bear will be riding a Segway through the forest!
Baby! Too cute.
loks like she'd have a hard time grabbing fish
damn thats so sad hope it lives long in the wild
@SaberTanker22 "Woops, pardon me." *keeps walking*
haha i love this! i wish it had some theme music..
Bless his heart and he must really have surffered for a time. But...........this is spooky. Imagine at dusk if you saw this coming toward you. Yikes!
The momma bear is so cute :3
@wisdumcube Yet, the cub is following the person in a bear suit? Yeah, okay..
@dizawnofwizar ..I mean, in this specific instance. If the 'ability to adapt to crappy situations' was evolved in, then alright.. but that's hardly 'proof' of anything
She's got better posture than I do...
@Yeeksquilack is that evolution?
The real danger here is if the cub starts to imitate it's parent and begins to walk upright. If this behavior is passed on to future generations and bears start walking around upright with two good paws, all they'll need is opposable thumbs and humanity is doomed.
@thicks2007 i like the sound of that. the complete opposite of pooh bear. pooh bear is cute but pimp bear is the shytt lolz.
