  • Lake St. Clair is a Smallmouth FACTORY and I highly recommend visiting. Stop #7 didn't go as planned but we still have two more events up north to prove ourselves. I don't know how a man from Oklahoma wins a Smallmouth derby but we are going to give it one hell of a shot!

    I will echo your comments. Me, my dad, and my son made our first ever destination smallmouth trip to St. Clair the week before the BASS event. This was our first ever smallmouth trip and drove all the way from Houston, TX to do it. Worth every dollar spent for the memories. It's an amazing place and we will be back sooner than later. Incredible fishing. Watching the event go down let me know just how close we were to the juice and yet so far away. I learned a lot about smallmouth and forward facing sonar and anytime you can get three generations in the boat together on a place like this for 5 days is priceless.
    Keep your head high...

    They say you see the true character of someone in times of adversity, not during times of success. You've been the same. Never hid. Never made excuses. That's a tribute to you and your character. I'm a coach who basically subscribes to the belief that if you're not getting the results you want, you just have to go back to work and keep grinding. Nothing gets better with complaining. Everybody can learn and grow from failure. Keep keeping on.

    Head up Bradley !
    What you go thru next, cannot be compared, to what you have already overcome.
    Stop tripping over what’s behind you.
    Yesterday is a canceled check.
    Tomorrow is a promissory note.
    Today is cash in your hand.
    Use what GOD has given you today, so when you look back over your life, you can testify.

Just remember win or not there is thousands to millions that would love to be in your position just to loose and be happy loosing . And your having a steady year . Keep looking forward. What happened yesterday can’t help you with what you need to do today.

    I got to working with some stainless steel pipework of late (compared to copper, synthetic Uponor, galv steel heating pipework etc or anything plumbers deal with, it's a lot different). The welders in that field though are the best, high purity argon and such. I've a lot to learn on it. I've not managed these kinds of jobs before. Getting to learn to adapt a bit too.

    • @academicmailbox7798

      The Essential Craftsman undertook a significant metalwork project, a new steel gate post and entrance. Fabricated his own base plates, and every piece of the construction. Re-using some old wide flanged I-beam lengths, that were cleaned up. Very educational to follow this fabrication process.

      A colleauge of Kevin Feenstra in the northern part of country, an angler of seven decades who is named Jac Ford. Jac provided a decent informal seminar on baitfish and forage species for fish in north America (multiple species and multiple States). I was added to the Anchored Outdoors library in recent weeks I noticed, and it's a good compliment to Kevin's take on the subject (Jac also recommended Kevin's book on the bait fish as being an excellent reference to understand the subject). In some sense, I believe what you're witnessing with FFS now in gear tackle angling for bass. Is what we've seen in the non-competition based 'fly fishing' part of the sport now for some decades. Or where anglers have tried to iimitate the forage with appropriate types of baits, and make casts that target directly to where the fish are located. I never looked at it this way before. What the technology of the sonar instruments seem to do though. Is to turn what is a flat stillwater lake, into something that resembles much more like river wade fishing with fly rods. Generally in rivers we tend to know where to cast and what casts to make (and that's the problem for the river angler, because we never developed what is known as a pattern approach to fishing). Our kind of fishing was imitative of the forage base, and target-oriented kind of fishing from the start (that's why we use strange things called 'fly lines' and 'fly rods'). It's not stubborness. It's a means to gain much more control over presentation of baits, than it is possible to get with gear tackle. Simply put.

    • @academicmailbox7798
      @academicmailbox7798 Рік тому

      The biggest concern on the fly fishing side, was that the fly fishing was becoming corrupted with ideas from gear tackle angling. In particular, ideas that came from crankbait and square bill types of fishing. When I look at gear tackle angling though, and the politics around Forward Facing instruments and gadgets. The more clear it becomes to me. That in fact what has happened is that gear tackle angling, has become corrupted by ideas. That have been present in fly fishing for a lot longer.

    St. Clair is overrated IMO. Just a bunch of screen watchers and lucky spots. 1 lb separates 10th place and 50th. Doesn’t really test the skill set of an angler. Shouldn’t even be on the tournament trail.

    • @trapin68
      @trapin68 Рік тому

      I somewhat agree that it might not be the best lake for tournaments (just due to the vast numbers of fish) but as far as a bass catching lake it is FAR from over-rated. They don’t call it Smallmouth Disneyland for nothing.
