+Nicholos Caudillo What? You mean instead of being awesome? When there's an infinite amount of room for new awesome movies, why would you want to replace a classic one with something else?

    • @linsley84
      @linsley84 8 років тому +5

+Nicholos Caudillo YES!!!! The book would have made a GREAT movie! Instead we got something else entirely. This is much closer in tone and concept to Starship Troopers.

+Nicholos Caudillo Absolutely! Much closer to the book. "I always get the shakes before a drop"

The 90's starship troopers is not a classic in my opinion, so much of the book's story was not used nor was the setting accurate. Read the book, then let's discuss.

This was outstanding! I loved every bit of it, with the little hints of sub plots and all. Now, is it just me or does the old timer talking to the soldier in the beginning look and talk like John Hurt? In the credits he is called "Larry Rew", but he reminds me of the great John Hurt.

Nice touch naming the firm "Hamilton, Heinlein and Banks". For those who don't get it, that's a reference to 3 famous science fiction authors:
    Peter F. Hamilton
    Robert A. Heinlein
    Iain M. Banks

Note he said 'pilot distraction'. Since the guy in the helmet was just a grunt the accountant was trying to find out why the insertion went wrong for that merc.
Flying into flak with a troop transport isn't a picnic, to be sure. The grunts gut punched out too early for a good insertion pattern, and then the ship crashed because the pilot was 'distracted' by loss of flight control.

    *sci-fi shorts resurgence*
Found myself on a trail through some recent sci-fi shorts. High quality concepts and well put together, like this one.
With our next function of the prototype, we'll be able to offer producers of these shorts a unique, super-slick means to market that operates like a crowd-funding platform and distribution channel. Some of these guys deserve money. I observed a few comments where viewers actively ask how they can fund these things. Our app does just that.
How do I go about finding the best of the next?

What a unique and brave new style to look at the 'guy' and the mirror of what he's seeing. So personal seeing what he's feeling and his reactions. Unlike the 'pay guy' who is very impersonal and doesn't make sure Glenn's family gets much. Excellent juxtaposition. I cared for Glenn and wanted him to succeed. Well done drawing me in so quickly and thoroughly. Bad bad 'pay guy'. Tsk tsk.

This concept could be developed into an ODST movie. I love the set up: soldier with a head cam. Footage being reviewed by an ice cold official. This could easily be: ODST soldier whose data is being viewed by an ONI Official. We care for the soldier, however the official whose eyes we see the story through views him as an asset nothing more. A single "serial number" out of the many. Him being more annoyed that the soldier is not doing its (I used its consciously) job to maximum efficiency. He is not interested in the humanity of the soldier.
Here is a quick idea of the story:
      ODST goes AWOL.
ONI Official looks through the footage. The UNSC is invading a sangheili colony. The soldier believes that he is defending humanity against the creatures who invaded Earth in the past. After a day or so he realizes that he is not fighting an evil army but sangheili peasants who just want to be left alone. Who by the end of the Human-Covenant war got as tired of fighting as humanity. A human corporation pushing for exploitation of the region and a paranoid ONI sparks a local conflict triggering a human invasion. The soldier switches sides after seeing the burnt out villages. It could discuss an interesting question: Is it right to take revenge?
Even without the ODST stuff, great work with the short. Good idea of cinematography.

damn...that wrapped me up in it quick. No spoonfed backstory or overweighted plot point...just a glimpse into a fragment of reality and human nature... Technically, overlapping the action over the actors face is brilliant...this short doesn't waste a second. Well...fu(

Lots to see in just the opening of such a short film...changing in flight status boards, the aftermath of a one night stand, ragging the cherry...and one I thing remember the traditional oh shit before hitting the ground, variations of THAT said personally on some 110 drops in the old 193d, 82d, and 18 ABC....
and the ending was pretty unique one must say

Mr. Peek: I have loved good sci fi, both books and films, since I was a kid and before I even knew the name of the genre. I thought this to be excellent. You used a very unique plot, along with great visuals and a good score, to hold my interest until the end. As others have stated, I wanted to see more. I think that's one of the hallmarks of what a film maker hopes to achieve, in my opinion. Well done and I hope we do see more from you.

This is amazing, well worth watching, special effects, story, acting, suspense, twists and turns, all used to the right quantity which enhances the overall finished film.
My only disappointment is people in the comments asking what happens before, what happens after... Do people no longer have imaginations?
It's not a Michael Bay film... We don't need the whole things spelt out multiple times telling us what to think or feel...

jamescr101 Never experience that in any of my CoD sessions. Either everyone too focus, or nobody use mic.
But then again, I play on PC.

Music wasn't what I'd have chosen and I'd be happier muting it and putting on some John Williams.. Besides that, absolutely amazing.

Fuck. Great dialog. Brilliant photography. But, the scene just before Glenn gets strapped in, is that CGI?

Why do all the short cg films on UA-cam have no story or decent plot?
Still yet to find one that's written well,
    Disappointing 😒

I love how this plays out from beginning to end where it's an accounting of the file up to the point that the transmission was ended. Excellent way it was set from start to finish where it leaves you wanting to know more but has a conclusion so you can at least get the feel of an end.
Would like to see more set in this time and universe, possibly with the person in question that was being investigated or even with more of the overall universe.
Thank you for the work you have done.

Ever wonder what a ODST feels like on his first drop. Pretty much sums it up.

Please stop putting "Black" in names to describe fictitious private merc/security companies. Its done to death. Great short. The reflection VFX was wonderful.

Incredible use of (I'm assuming) limited resources. Very well done. It's uncommon that I'm left wanting more from a short that long.
