It's clipping like Crazy. Don't you hear that? Sound is way too crushed. Probably what's happening is you're clipping the external plugins headroom, which can only be fixed by brining down the entire kit before going into the plugin. Rest of the mix sounded fine, i'd say.
Hey man! It definatly doesn't sound like that when I mixed, i guess it might be a mistake I made while recording/exporting the video along with it's audio! Thanks for noticing tho, I'll make sure to look out for issues like this in the future!
When doing youtube videos bring down the Limiter ceiling -0.7 and you should be safe. That could also destroy the sound, i suppose. So many things that can go wrong, ha ha ha. Rock on
What is the routing into your drumgroup that goes into your sledgehammer? Is it just the shells or every drumtrack that then goes into the sledgehammer that then goes into your drum bus? Being able to see how that all flows in would help a ton. Great video as usual!
All drum tracks aswell as the snare reverbs are going into the Sledgehammer! In this case (I will have to open the session to be 100%) I think I just sent the drum bus aswell as the rooms into the Sledge! Thank you!
Imo this completely ruined the drum sound that was very good. This is clipping like crazy and together with the guitars sounds very harsh and over processed. All this distortion from the stacked compressors is too much for me, doesn't sound natural at all and I really don't get the sense behind it. Might be UA-cam or something else along the way that happened but it's hard to hear the drums clearly like this :/.
Hey Brian! I sometimes do, but sometimes I just leave it as it is haha. But it totally depends, sometimes you can kinda here that it doesn't really fit to the fundamental!
I´m sorry if I am wrong but you showed us two types of parallel compression. One of them adds attack and the other one sustain. so did you use both or just one type of parallel compression on your drums bus.
Ok, so the first paralell compression that is within the first bus that has all my Drum kit elements. This one is to add sustain to the drums. Next up I send all those elements from this first drum bus to my ''finall'' paralell compression that is the Sledgehammer which I basicly decide how much attack and power my kit shall have. If I were to lower the fader on my Sledgehammer paralell the kit would get more of a beefier sound & when I raised the fader it'll start to give more presence and attack to the kit. All these are then sent to the master drum bus that will make everything work more as an whole, so everything I add outside the (let us call it kit bus atm) kit bus and by that I mean the Sledgehammer and the Reverbs will sound more consistent to the whole drum mix! I hope this clarifys anything, if not feel free to ask! (I hope I understood your question right haha).
I'm a little confused by the difference between drum group and drum buss in this circumstance. All the processing you were doing on the "drum group", I was doing on my drum buss. Could you explain a bit more?
you have to route the single tracks individually as a "Send" to an "Fx channel" or "Fx Return" where the compressor will be. That way you can control how much amount of compression is added to each track. Make sure you make the sends of each track in "Pre-fader" mode.
Thanks dude! Sadly I won't go over guitars on this one, but it's a basic setup ITB with Pod Farm, EQ and Compression! But I must say that tone is all in the hands & Luke who made this cover is an insanely talented guitarist!
This looked like some useful information, but as has been noted, everything sounded super crushed and clipping. This made it really hard to hear the more subtle console colorations added toward the end. I'm very much a non-expert that plays around on my DAW for fun, so you can take for what it's worth, but some might not be translating as the audio is formatted/compressed for uploading to UA-cam. That said, I still found the video interesting and will experiment with the ideas presented.
Thank you for posting all the cool content! There's only one way to figure out where these unexpected issues will appear which is to actually do the work and see what happens. I'm very grateful that content makers like yourself are making the effort.
Therea too much crap going on in this... I can’t stand videos where people add a crap ton of plugins and then make up a an intention behind it just to justify that they have the plugin on to begin with. It’s way too distorted and over processed

Yeah totally! I'll try that out, thank you so much!
It sounds way too 80s
I think he deliberately exaggerated the compression so that it can be better understood
Why would you add compression to the buss but then a parallel compression?
Did they ever do a video on the Toms?
I've gathered a lot of great insight from these mixing tutorials! I really recommend everyone to watch it all the way through
I don't know... this somehow sound very crushed, machine-like, wobbly and just... giving me a headache. :/
The crushed feeling is probably a misfortune with exporting during video recording stage! So that's my fault and will be better in future videos!

Robin, on the Drum Gp EQ... do you move that 'bottom bump' around to match the kick fundamental ?
Hey Brian! I sometimes do, but sometimes I just leave it as it is haha. But it totally depends, sometimes you can kinda here that it doesn't really fit to the fundamental!
Robin Leijon Thanks! I've moved it around to match
did you use for these drums both types of parallel compression?
I'm not sure what you mean Dear Sir!
I´m sorry if I am wrong but you showed us two types of parallel compression. One of them adds attack and the other one sustain.

Nice man! Go on with this series... I would like to watch how u move on that guitars! :)
Thanks dude!

Yeah, it's a mistake I'll try and prevent for future videos since it's an issue when exporting!

Sounds overly compressed
It difined better without the parallel comp.
Its german style bum cha bum cha thats why it sounds little automatic
My bad its new Morbid Angel
you shouldn't clip that hard doing a demonstration. I hear distortion.

I haven't watched yet, but I know it's good. Kevin's drums tutorials are the fucking best.
It's Robin :D
Now I just watched it. This shit fucking rules. Very nice Kevin.
Thanks Daniel, my name might be Kevin in another parallel universe. But here it's Robin! haha :D
Lol!!! Sorry Robin!!! But I'm a fan anyway.
Probably this guy was mastering Metallica's Death Magnetic ))) Farting and clipping. Video should be titled - how NOT to mix any drums
Ewwwww 🤢
