To help keep the saw in a straight line, fasten a board below the cut for the saw to rest on as you make the cut. Another benefit is it holds the saw weight. 😊
You're 100%, especially with the raid and snow we get, however, we plan to replace the entire siding next season. Since we had left over from redoing a whole side, we just wanted to eliminate that ugly spot and eliminate penetration until then. Thanks and don't hesitate to advise 🙂@LM
Z-flashing would definitely have been the way to go for that seam, however this was a short term aesthetic repair. We figured since we had the extra t1-11 from replacing the entire side that we were cutting a window into we might as well patch this piece until we get to the bigger fix. Thanks for watching.

@paulmonk7820 Thanks great tip! Definitely adding that to the bank of things we've learned doing this little project.
I would have put a piece of Z flashing in there

I'm going to be doing this work on my shed soon - do you recommend Z flashing where the top of the new piece meets the bottom of the old current wood?
My Brother is a complete Genius.
You made his year!! 🥰 xoxo
moisture will penetrate that joint! you need to be joining at a 45 degree (downsloping!) angle with waterproof glue at minimum!
Put 2x4 inside between studs too stabilize it
Didn't actually need it for this temporary patch but thanks for the tip!
Super helpful; thank you!
We’re so glad you watched and found it useful! Xoxo Belle
What about the joint where u cut ? Don't think moisture is gonna Penatrate that ?

If you prime and paint it it will last much longer.
For sure @davefreeman1499 .
