Ahh, memories of summer! Man, I wore out my vinyl records especially this one. I cranked it up and ran through me amps. Neighbors got earful of Stones.
Bought the albumn but it had to grow on me I wasn’t ready for it my scope of appreciation had to grow and it did with this record I didn’t have any idea how much I was missing
Great observation - some of my favorite Stones albums - I didn't like at first because they didn't meet my preconceived expectations. But as you wrote, I grew into them and all of them became ear bugs. :)
Only because I had heard The Stones 1 & 1/2 million times on the radio. I can't get no satisfaction etc. When I recently clicked on Exile - disc 1 for the first time, just out of random curiosity, my jaw dropped, not 30 seconds in. It was occurring to me in real time I had never _really_ heard what these guys were capable of delivering, or perhaps their masterclass. The guitar work is outstanding. Mick is, well, Mick...It's the complete deal, subtle, understated, but intricate, and energetic at the same time. A very different take on the blues than Led Zep, but potent all the same. Incredible.
I've only begun to listen to Exile, always late to the party. Now I see why people rave about the Rolling Stones being "all time greatest." I never quite understood them. That's because you only ever hear Start me up, or Can't always get what you want, or any of their standard radio played stuff. This whole Exile record is like reliving my introduction to Led Zep, or the White Album. It's been stuck on repeat for the last week.
What a great way to close out a timeless album!

This came out when I was a Senior in HS! My friends and I wore out about 4 copies!
fucking awesome louie
Was 14 years old and was blown away with this record. Then I got to see them in concert at the Spectrum Philly 1972. Mick Taylor wailing away.
