I keep learning bit by bit with every video of yours. I am glad I had watched sidechaining before watching this one, because it now makes sense when you talk about it here. You really teach well. I offer this compliment to you while pointing out that I myself had been a music/band teacher in the public schools for 45 years. Learning about using Studio One especially from you in creative ways has been one of retirement's real joys. Thank you so much, Joe!
Jo. I just wanted to say thank you. So many aspects of S1 are very deep and difficult to navigate. I am very grateful to you for all of your hard work.
Awesome. You are so good at elaborating things in S1. I have now clearly understood the difference btn pre and post fader and how I can use them creatively.
This subject always confounded me, leaving me dazed and confused (for you Led Zeppelin fans). But Joe came to my rescue again! Thanks for explaining this so well, like a dye-in-the-wool Pedagogy.
I've been using S1 since 2014 and never saw the panning on the send. This should be a little more visually prominent. Or I mean I could have just read the manual... I suppose
I've been using Pre Fader setting for over two years now. I place the CLA "Unplugged" plugin and put it in send as Pre Fader. Then Balance betwen the CLA and the actual channel, till I get a rich full sound.I adjust in the Gain window NOT the fader. So that's what adds the texture. Works great for drums, bass and well everything. Adds a lot of texture and "Fat."
Excellent video, Joe as usual. This is a superb way to balance the sends of effects, now I understand better the Pre Fader vs Post Fader Sends in studio one. Thank you!
Thanks for the video. I usually prefer my sends as prefader so I' d like to learn if there is a setting to set default as prefader. It's not time consuming but I'd like to eliminate the chance to forget.
Thanks alot Joe. I always didn't know what to do when it came to pre and post fader, I just used pre fader and post fader just out of instinct and just went with my ear how it sounded at the time in each song I did, I didn't know what I was doing. I really needed this explanation.
I'm new to DAW, just started wondering about that pre/post fader... light bulb goes on, and then Joe talks about sidechain, and I'm back to being overwhelmed by the amount of stuff in this tool. :D
But it’s good defaulted the way it is for beginners since lot of the time that’s the way it’ll be used unless your advanced and trying to use it creatively.
This video came just in time. I was wondering how to do the reverb and delay effect on a track I am working presently. Although I did manage to get it done by automating the send n stuff, but now I have this technique in my kitty too. Thank you Joe!
What is the difference between sending a track to a bus like you did in this video, and sending a track to a bus by pressing where it says main and changing that to bus 1? Because that’s what I have been doing this whole entire time so what is the difference between the 2?
Hey Joes thats a grat explanation, saw your video in my Studio plus library In my case of creating ambient styles of music, would it be better to use pre fader send or post fader send.? I have been experimenting with both ,and I like the pre fader option esp when using Choral libraries ,mixing the dry signal with some reverb on the fx channel, for that huge cinematic sound Thoughts? Thank you
Nice Video as always, Joe, I been using Post Fader Send (yellow) to send the mono vocal track to a FX for some parallel compression, as usual process, and both goes to the same stereo bus (L VX ) and there I send to fx, to get the tone I want to send, and all the vocal tracks, parallel and fx goes to some another stereo bus (ALL VX). BUT, I noticed that when I click to pre-send (blue) sounds different! more natural, with the same levels on the fader (0), with the Post fader (yellow) there is a slightly change on the sound, its like a phase, the makes the vocal nasal, like some kind of comb filter, makes more thin and narrow. I run tests with any the plugins off on the chain and also send to a Bus instead a FX, to differents compressors (even ones with zero latency etc), tried sending a stereo track instead mono, tried sending direct to the master fader and its the same! There is some kind of encoding the sinal, or colapsing the imaging on the Post-Fader Send? Thanks and sorry for the long reply! But that its something I want to know, cause its strange and changes my process! ps: Im running the last updated version no WIN 10, with a Presonus 192, with a project in 96k.
Hi - I'm trying drag my FX channels to sit next to the Main Bus but cannot. Instead, FX channels seem to be unmovable and only where SO decides where they should sit within the Mixer. Is there some way around this? A check box I'm missing? Thanks in advance. ✌
We're still missing automatic "Send Follows Pan" option, and also to send signal with a pre-fader send when the channel is muted (because now we need to turn the volume to -INF if we want to monitor only the send signal, for example on a parallel comrpessor bus). Bring it on, folks! =D
Thanks very much Joe. Just wondering what the volume sliders on the FX busses do, as opposed to adjusting the amount sent to them, in a pre or post fader context?
Can send pan be set to mirror the channel pan. For example toms panned 50% left sent to a reverb and the send is automatically set to 50% left. Also is there a way to control stereo send pans indivually? As in say a stereo guitar bus with a send to a reverb but with left sent to the right and the right sent to the left?
When we do automation and raise and lower our faders for volume rides it will effect how much and how little our compressors and EQs read the incoming signal which in turn throughs off the balance of the mix. How do we do fader rides without effecting compressors and EQs? And if I heard you correctly in this video it does not have that same effect on reverbs and delays they turn up and turn down with the fader rides in turn keeping the overall balance of the mix right?
Guys is there a way to make this happen? When I insert an audio track or instrument track I want the faders all the way down to -6 or so , can we do this?
pure filler blastering, why make everything so complex??? where's the send to master, how to create it?? literary I got 2 tracks to master digging all through this nasa science to create ''sends'' am I missing something here???

Great video, Joe very helpful
These videos are sooooo good. Explains everything clearly and has a great listenable voice.

Thank you for the Clarification. The information was so helpful really appreciate you having this channel Joe.

if you never saw it chances are that you never needed it? No pun intented ;-)
@@6stringks you mean 'no PAN' intended...
You're not the only one - just saw it as well, and already have crazy ideas in my head of how to use it 😎
I've found it on accident by mis-clicking the send volume. Never used it since.
@@TheDesperateArtist lol. I see what you did here
That is something that we will definitely have to try and probably practice with a little while before we truly understand it.

definitely try fooling around with Your favorite Compressor for texture. It's actually "Parallel" FX's A time saver.
Excellent video Joe. Much appreciated!!!
So many things about basic things, you've explain it so well. Very very very useful for me. Thank u so much!!!
Excellent video, Joe as usual. This is a superb way to balance the sends of effects, now I understand better the Pre Fader vs Post Fader Sends in studio one.
Thank you!
Thank you so much! This cleared up much confusion for me.
great, very good at explaining it, Thanks :)
Facts I think I pre EQ a few of my tracks lol 😂
I am so happy I watched this!
Rise and Shine !
Thanks for the video. I usually prefer my sends as prefader so I' d like to learn if there is a setting to set default as prefader. It's not time consuming but I'd like to eliminate the chance to forget.
I needed this. You are such a great teacher Joe!
Thank you! 🙇
Excellent explaining of this basic topic. Not only how, but added WHY to it. Keep up the good work.
Not only he explained what it is, he also gave scenarios on when to use it.
Thanks alot Joe. I always didn't know what to do when it came to pre and post fader, I just used pre fader and post fader just out of instinct and just went with my ear how it sounded at the time in each song I did, I didn't know what I was doing. I really needed this explanation.

Amazing explination.
thanks joe
Thank you. Tried 2 or 3 other videos and they keep using all of this jargan I don't understand and this explained it for the normal person.
man...had no idea about the panning at send....big thanks!!!
Thank you Joe🙏🏾
Excelente como siempre. Muchas gracias! Saludos.
With reaper you can choose to send tracks pre fx to a bus.
This would be so good to have this in studio one
I was just in need for this info to create a drum bus.
I use studio one once in a while but my DAW is ableton. This video was very insightful. Thank you
that was really cool, joe, thanks bro..
Great stuff Joe... Thank you
dang I didn't know you could drag from the browser to the Send wowzers hell yeah thanks
Another amazing tutorial from my hero Joe Gilder, thanks very much and keep up the good work mate👍👍👍👍
I am more confused now
Great Thk you
is there a way to pull up a map that shows where everything is going instead of having to scroll through dozens of tracks trying to see where they go
Very good explanation! Thanks :)
Hell yeah this helped me so much
tanks, how may I use the audio by studio one for to do live, video-calls or record videos in real time?
شكرًا جزيلًا
Great ! why didn't you make this one earlier ;-)
Sure would be nice to have a setting to set the default for pre/post as well as other defaults in the system
You could change them all to post and then save it as a template.
But it’s good defaulted the way it is for beginners since lot of the time that’s the way it’ll be used unless your advanced and trying to use it creatively.
brilliant
Joe u a life saver brah!!!
Thanks for showing us the invisible PAN. LOL Didn't even know it was there.
Ditto for me.
You've gotta be an insider to get this kind of info. 😂 - Joe Gilder
I'm sending to echoboy bus and it's on prefader and it's 100 wet and I'm still hearing the dry double aaah HELP

can you put a post fader insert in S1 yet? I've been asking for this for years
Joe, can you sample your synth voice - bishhhzzzzz bishhhzzz so I can use it as a telephone ringtone?
What is the difference between sending a track to a bus like you did in this video, and sending a track to a bus by pressing where it says main and changing that to bus 1? Because that’s what I have been doing this whole entire time so what is the difference between the 2?
I was just wondering about this too.
I would like a video about re amping from studio one. its fun to boost a send on the vox with a boost around 2k and some distortion filth

What about Vca channels?
Whats your opinion about Dolby Atmos for mixing ? 😁

Where’s your presonus shirt?
The one I wanted
Hope your going to post office to post it and then send it here
do you want the shirt pre-faded?
@@tomstorms2428 yeah gives it character as long as it’s not yellowish in spots
I’d have to use a lot of gain on it
Finally 😃👍🏾

You can make a macro to add a new audio or inst track and lower it to -6 or whatever you want.
