@@drumnbassdan Doesn’t matter how often he played and also he was signed AFTER Leeds were relegated. So no, they wouldn’t have stayed up. Calling it the biggest mistake ever is an over exaggeration. He made a big move and it didn’t work out. Plenty of other clubs will still take him now, so it’s not like his football career is over.

Mainoo is ahead of him for England yet Gareth will still pick Phillips... especially now since he's actually getting Prem starts under his belt. There's a reason why Pep barely played him, and Pep is rarely wrong.

What Philips needs is a transfer not a loan, if Leeds go up then why not there??? Or Southampton, Leicester. Go somewhere where you are valued and wanted.

He moves too slowly. I don't mean pace. clearly, he has speed. But the reading of the game is too slow. so by the time he accelerates, it's too late and he is making rash tackles to make up for it.
He needs to understand he is not Rodri. Once he gets that through his head, he will play better. No one can do what Rodiri does.

Stop making excuses for Phillips. The move isn't a bad one if you're looking for game time but I always felt like he was overrated by the media before and after his move to City. This isn't his best form but his best isn't far from what we're seeing either.
I know he’s on West Ham United, but with Manchester City loaning him out there and barely even playing them, many of us should have concerns with what’s gonna happen to them if Rodri is injured rests or picks up another suspension.
In my opinion, Manchester City are over reliant on Rodri and it makes sense because what he offers to the team combined with his ability to score big goals he’s simply irreplaceable and no player on that team can replicate what he does. With him in the starting lineup they’ve gone a year without losing a game and a big reason as to why Manchester City have dropped points as the absence of Rodri has been felt and they cannot win games without him and there’s always a lack of a solution when he’s out. Kalvin Phillips struggled for game time and he was loaned out to West Ham in January meaning that the guy has no proper backup and you wonder why they didn’t sign a defensive midfielder in January because the worst case scenario for them is him getting injured and as we’ve seen with them this season they’re not the same team without him and to have to move one of the defenders to play in his role, filling his void when he’s out is so difficult. Pep Guardiola obviously didn’t fancy him and it’s unlikely that he ever resurrects his career at Manchester City since he’s also had a slow start at West Ham too.
U saying about Rodri; Pep seems t have a long European history of playing same players over and over again till burnout sets in.
Arsenal (even Pool), play same side forever cos squad small but City have pretty decent benchwarmers who don't get a shout cos he's over reliant on 2-3 players

UK TV is inclined to find former star players from big clubs that are big personalities. While they are often fun to watch, they are also often poor analysts.
Look at Roy Keane. The man talks entertainingly about emotions and personalities, but his ability to analyze the tactics a game is not even average. Perhaps the man still knows football, but he cannot be bothered to explain it well in front of a microphone.
A lot of former PL players as pundits are more interested in rooting for their club or against their rivals, than thinking hard and trying to explain real football insights to a general audience.
I am not sure that America is better overall, but they are not annoying in same particular way all day long.

How so? Moving from City its a fresh start and so were the opportunities Pep gave him, which were short but so are for everyone who joins City at the beginning of signing.

But I only need to watch Kobbie Mainoo once to know I'd be an idiot to even bring Kalvin Phillips into a conversation to start in midfield. That Mainoo kid can be the proper central midfielder England has never had in my opinion. Players, like Kross, Modric, Xabi Alonso.
That kid and Rice will make the best pairing.

To be fair, Maguire looks good in certain systems, and Southgate has gotten many excellent performances out of him. But there are obvious weaknesses in Harry's game and as a result he is too inflexible to perform is other systems. Maguire is a genuinely good player who was never going to be great. A lot of these players are chickens, players who lie to themselves, they are playing their best football at a small club and when the bigger clubs come they choose the one that they think they can stay on the bench and get winners medals, they don't choose a club that they can help, they choose a club that can help them.
