Southgate is not willing to drop Kane who’s not performing, and is reactive rather than proactive when making substitutions. We’ve gotten away with it so far, but as we start to face tougher teams, I’m not feeling confident.
Kane and Southgate are both the problems. Kane has a history of bottling: failed to score to make it 2-0 v Croatia in 2018, ghosted in 2021 final, failed to score the pen in 2022. They're both allergic to winning trophies.
The other national teams are not as dominant as their results may suggest… Netherlands don’t have top players in the best leagues ….Spain is intense but similar to the Dutch the core of the group are not in the best teams and that leaves France….they are waiting to get flogged, who’s there to flog them?
@@Redandwhite_bluesuedeshoes At least they’re playing with 11 men that are all positively contributing to the team. Unfortunately, Kane has been playing in a way that’s detrimental to the team. Players like Saka constantly find themselves not having someone to pass to, or they pass to him and he easily loses the ball - which then gives the opposition an advantage. The past few games England found themselves having only 10 minutes or so to quickly score because they were losing. That’s a risky way to play.
Out of all the teams left in the competition I think that England have the strongest individual players, but as a collective Team it doesn’t look good.

The bottom line is: if Southgate is still manager for the World cup campaign, I won't be watching England any more. I've watched 8 years of boring anti-football, playing not to lose. Southgate got an easy run to the semis in every tournament except the last World Cup, you play a good team in the quarterfinals and guess what happens, get easy games and the semi finals are achievable. Southgate has been lucky in 3 out of 4 tournaments with the draw and ending up on the easy side

However if the fa renew southgates contract after this tournament the entire board should be stood down. His tactics have been found out and in 4 years nothing has changed. The same type of players benefit from Gareth’s system and the ones with creativity play 2 minute cameo roles.

We play such poor football, that I almost feel asleep watching the Switzerland game. This is an entertainment business, of course it's a balance with getting results but we've been dreadful.
I've almost got to the point where I don't care, because it's so dull. Beating Slovakia, Slovenia and Switzerland doesn't thrill us, when we struggled in every game. I know that some teams are resilient, but we are getting 3-4 shots on target in 120 minutes, we are not peppering the goal and the keeper is nothaving a worldie

Southgates had the easiest possible pathways to those semi-finals and then lost in a poor fashion on each of those times
I think Simon misses the point a little bit in the way society has changed. His generation of “suck it up” and take abuse with a stiff upper lip is not the way younger generations have been taught to approach life. They push back and give their thoughts and feelings. Southgate is a victim and he's made the team feel like victims too. Our captain and manager have never won a trophy in a colleted 45+ career. Cant believe how quickly Spain turned it around when we took 8 years to develop this kind of football.

2002. Pre tournament injuries to Gerrard and Neville. Beckham broke his metatarsal in April ( is that why he bottled it for Brazil's equaliser?)
04. No Rio due to the drugs test thing. Rooney breaking his foot against Portugal. Campbell's perfectly good goal being disallowed.
06. Rooney injured before the tournament. Owen limping out during the group stage. Beckham went off early during Portugal game, before Rooney followed him for the stamping.
Bobby Robson, Hoddle and Fabio could point to similar moments.
Southgate has suffered no significant injuries (depending on your view of McGuire), no sending offs, no dodgy refereeing decisions. In 4 tournaments!! I'm standing next to that man in an electric storm!!
Don't forget Glenn Hoddle's 1998 team we had a player sent off in the Quarter finals against Argentina (Beckham). Scored in extra time (Sol Campbell) that was chalked off incorrectly imho. And for me that was our best and most balanced team I have ever seen in my lifetime.

Exactly Gareth! 3 semi finals out of 4 is great but we are still classed as losers when this squad can be winners this time round and I’m not convinced so far.
Regarding the Jude Bellingham comments. He’s right Jude hasn’t been great. He scored a goal in first game but was fairly anonymous in that game, did nothing in the other 2 group games. Then a world class goal against Slovakia but didn’t know he was on the pitch for 90 mins and an average performance with little hints of class.
Love Jude and a lot of other players in that group but by no means no one has been great this tournament apart from guehi, in which konsa stepped up when called in.
The press in England never sport their teams
When these players are at their own FC's they are SURROUNDED by mostly WORLD-CLASS Players but....... when in their England shirt/team, they are SEPERATED FROM the world class players and then HAVE to Work together, mostly ALL STRANGERS in a common cause, PLAY BRILLIANTLY NOW FOR English FANS and Media or Risk their WRATH !!!!!!! Southgate is up against It for sure.

Anyone with a brain knows southgate plays boring football and has got incredibly lucky with EVERY draw he has had in international football. We would have got knocked out by anyone decent! That being said we can win these euros because there are NO elite teams - Netherlands and France are doing the same as us, playing defensive football and getting through. Spain are playing best football but poor defensively. This is another GOLDEN opportunity to win a euros and if we don't it will be a waste.
