The headphone outputs can be used to drive small active speakers using a TRS splitter cable, however you cannot use them alongside the speaker outputs on the rear as connecting a set of headphones will mute that speaker output.
The outputs on the EVO 8 are impedance balanced. Still gives you great common mode rejection but also means you can easily use unbalanced TS jacks if your monitors aren't don't have a balanced input
I have an iD14 but need 2 more ins. The iD44 is a good option but it's quite a lot more $$. How do the Evo preamps compare to the iD series? The 'console grade' pres for the iD are enticing and sound really good. Does the new Evo preamp compare in terms of sound quality/character? Is it compromised in any way? Anyone know about this???
The EVO pre-amps are designed to be a little cleaner than the Audient pre's with no real warmth or compression, ideal for content creation such as podcasts or voiceover. They still sound great on instruments as well, giving loads of detail. The Converters are on the same par as the iD14 so you won't be loosing audio quality here either.
I´m looking for an audio interface where I can use 2 different pairs of speakers, either interchangeably (for A/B comparison) but also all 4 speakers at the same time, when needed. Is it possible with this one?
It is possible to do this on EVO 8 but it doesn't have a simple way to switch between the Main and ALT speakers apart from muting one set and un-mutong the other set. The iD14 MKII however lets you set up the iD button so you quickly switch back and forth between the two speakers for mix checking so that might be a better match for your workflow.
Is it possible to use the first of the main output connected to the studio monitors and the second headphones output at the same time? Or when I connect the headphones to the second output the first main output will be muted as well?
That would work just fine. Outputs 1+2 are muted when Headphone 1 is used and Outputs 3+4 are muted when Headphone 2 is used meaning you can use Outputs 1+2 and Headphone 2 at the same time.
Hi Audient, huge fan of your products. Love my ID14 but wondering about Evo 8 as and addition. Looked everywhere but can't find an answer what DAC/ADC specifically is used in Evo 8? Thanks
Hi there, EVO 8: AKM converters with 113dB of dynamic range. iD14: Burr Brown converters providing 116dB ADC and 117 dB DAC dynamic range. I hope this helps, Audient.
Hey! Is it possible to use the line outputs individually? So that I could reamp or run the signal through outboard gear and be able to properly monitor the sound without getting feedback? Thanks in advance!
You can send different audio to outputs 1+2 and 3+4 using the Artist Mix function which is turned on in the setup menu. You can then click on "Outputs 3+4" on the right side of the mixer and use the faders to adjust what is sent to this output and use it to send audio from your DAW to outboard gear.
A TIP to buyer/users: the Smart Gain feature has been consistently off as regards microphone volume. I have an AKG C1000S condenser mic, which is pretty sensitive. And yet, when I ran the Auto Gain, and spoke into the mic, the LEDs lit up half the way. I had to manually turn it up almost all the way to get a nice signal. A big difference between mixers and these audio interfaces is this: with both of them, it takes REVERB to get volume and depth. In a mixer, you have the reverb right there, and set it to your satisfaction. But with a USB interface, like the EVO 8, you put the headphones on, and talk/sing into the mic, and you'll be disappointed in the loudness. I found that in the DAW (I use Cakewalk), I turn Reverb on, and Echo on, and then I see how much the sensitivity of the mic goes up! I can then even hear my chair creaking! My Mackie mixer ProFX6V3 has a 2 out, 2 in USB interface. Whereas the EVO 8 has 4 out, 4 in. This is grand because along with a microphone, I can plug in a stereo connection from my cellphone. That takes 3 inputs; I could not do this with a MOTU M2, and even a MOTU M4, which has Line Level inputs in the back whereas the EVO 8 has Combo inputs for all 4 inputs. Good job, Audient!
The Smart Gain feature will set the volume based on the input signal during the period where Smartgain is active and will set the mic level to peak at approximately -10dBFS to give a good signal level but also a little headroom. To get the best results, ensure that you choose the loudest section of the material you are recording and ensure there's input for the entire time that smart gain is active. When you are adding effects in your DAW, this may be adding gain, hence why your signal gets louder. Great to hear the EVO works well for your setup through!
Because you have more inputs and outputs on the EVO 8, A single monitor Mix dial would limit your routing options. We therefore use the EVO mixer software to control your monitoring instead, which allows you to make a separate mix for outputs 3+4 and carefully balance the monitoring of all 4 inputs and your DAW playback.
when using the auto gain, does it mute out your voice while doing the auto gain on the evo8? know it used to do that on the evo4 but a firmware update accidentally changed it to where you still hear yourself while it's doing the auto gain. think you all said you were going to switch it back in the next firmware update on the evo4. thanks.
I’m not getting to use it on FL studios also on protools. When I put the interface evo 4 on audio settings I can not select the mic to record, the mic get not available. I just could use the mic trough ASIO but not well. Very upset. Could not find any to help me on this. Probably I will have to buy another interface
I'm sorry to hear you are having difficulty with your EVO. If you haven't already, could you please contact us at [support@audient.com](support@audient.com) and we can assist you with this issue?
how do you change the audio quality on Mac? my sound keeps crackling when I'm on UA-cam. I can change the settings on my DAW but I don't know how to change it for everything else
There aren't any real changes you can make to the system audio on macOS. However, it's not normal to be getting crackles on youtube playback. Can you please ensure you are using the included USB cable and if possible, connect the interface directly to the Mac? If you are having difficulty still, drop us a message at support@audient.com so we can help you!
Let me start by saying that this is the best interface I've heard of (not tried yet) ever, I feel like it covers all my needs and much more! Just one question... What happens to the instrument input if I'm already using the 4XLR inputs? Does it become the 5th channel or does it mute it? I guess the question is if I can record 4 mics and a guitar simultaneously? Ps The Evo 8 is the sexiest interface out there, can't wait to have it on my desk!
You could do this, but it can be a little tricky as you'd have to adjust the two volume controls separately. Most active subs will have Speaker through inputs so both the speakers and sub can be connected to the same output.
Hi. I was wondering, I have an audient evo 8, and i have it hooked up via PC with studio monitors connected in "1" with TRS cables in the back, and headphones connected to "1" in the front. I have a mic hooked up to "1" on the left back and a keyboard plugged in the back on the left in "2". I tried recording, and everything was recorded fine. However, while I'm playing the keyboard and even the mic, I can't hear anything back. I even tried unplugging my headphones to see if I can hear them through my studio monitors and nothing comes out. I can't figure this out as I've always used Focusrite. Audient Evo seems a bit harder to figure out. I even tried plugging my headphones into my studio monitors and still nothing comes out. But when I record, it plays back
If you'd like to hear your inputs in real time while recording then you would need to open the EVO mixer software and pull up the faders for the Mic 1-4 channels. This will then be sent directly to the speakers/headphones.
The EVO 8 can drive an SM7B but it depends on how loud the sound source is and how close the mic is to the sound source whether you'll require a boost such as a Cloudlifter or FEThead.
Yeah that is certainly possible, just select the Inputs 5+6 of the EVO 8 as your audio device in Discord or Teamspeak and you will input the audio from the Loopback send.
If I wanted to use this as on a 2 PC Streaming setup (Gaming PC and Streaming PC) - is it possible to send sound from the gaming pc to the streaming PC AND send sound back from the streaming PC to the gaming PC? I'll buy one if it's possible. Thanks.
Its not possible to connect the EVO 8 to two PCs via USB I'm afraid, you'd have to take the outputs of the EVO connected to the gaming PC and feed this into the Streaming PC either though an another interface or via the built in inputs.
@@Audientworld hi, yeah I don't mean via 2 USB. I mean usb to gaming pc and have cables connected between the Evo and streaming pc to send audio between the 2.
@@Audientworld Thanks. What would be the best, low latency way to add a noise gate or compression to my mic for consistent audio - eg talking quiet or shouting so that discord on my game pc or my stream pc picks up my mic consistently (not clipping if I shout or be too quiet if I talk more softly) - I can't do this within the Evo app, so I guess I'll have to run audio through some sort of plugin? Can you provide any info on the best way to do this with the lowest latency? Would it even be possible to get this option added in an update? Thanks!
The best way would be to input the audio into a DAW, setup these effects as plug-ins and use the EVO 8's loop-back channels to send the audio on to where you need it. If you keep the buffer size fairly low (<128 Samples) then you shouldn't get excessive latency.
Is it possible getting balanced outputs 1+2 and 3+4 at the same time? Looking for this functionality just for audio playback with a four monitor set-up under Windows and without using any DAW at all, only a windows player and web playback. Thanks!
@@Audientworld Interface at home. Just to confirm it works flawless with this 4 monitors set-up as you said :-) What a great sounding, performing and beatuful designed machine you have released... and at a very affordable price, thank you so much for that!
Is it possible to route mono channels in my DAW to each individual output? I'm trying to run a track system with a stereo track and and mono click track Eg. Output 1+2 - Stereo Track Output 3 - Click Output 4 - Guides
I am considering buying his as my very old and even back then very cheap solution is dying and I need something reliable and flexible (I want to use this as my recording interface as well as using my mic during video conferences on my work laptop). Did I see this correctly that I can use phantom power separately on every input instead of having it simply on/off on all inputs. I want to have my condenser mic on and use other sources on the inputs at the same time.
Yes, the phantom power is switched on independently for each channel, allowing you to use non phantom powered sources on the other channels. Simply tap the channel you wish to use phantom power on and then push the +48V button.
My computer does not have an USB-C port and I'm not changing computers any time soon. Should I get an EVO 8? It really bothers me that I can't use a regular AC adapter to power all the 4 inputs and use phantom power on all of them.
If your PC doesn't have a USB-C port then an external powered hub with a USB-C port can be used. Otherwise a USB-A to USB-C cable can be used but as you mention, this will limit your phantom power to two channels at a time.
Is there any way to run phantom power to all pres if you computer does not have USB-C? If not, please consider a way to make this happen in future releases.
@@Audientworld Thank you for your reply. Our organization works with student musicians and schools around the world, many of which do not have a computer with USB-C ports. EVO is a perfect fit for many of our projects, but not having the ability to run four condensers simultaneously can be a deal-breaker. If you would please consider ways to run power to all ports in a future release, that would be great.
Will it be possible to enable monitor and headphone output at a time. I mean that, while recording, monitor out is to be for studio monitor, and headphone out is to vocal booth. But here your mentions the headphone jack plugs dominate all the output.. Please?
My apoliges, I mis-typed in my previous reply that I have not removed. You would need to use Outputs 1+2 and Headphone output 2. In this setup you would have individual control over the two sets of outputs.
@@Audientworld thank you so much... Another things i want to know is suppose i am using USB type A(computer side) to usb C, can i have 4 channel input, 2 channels 48v is clearly understand but another two is still working or not? Can i have connect dynamic microphone to another two inputs... 🙏 Or using an external phantom power will it works rest of the two channels with using usb type A... Also if using usb c to usb3 adapter what will the result?
You can still use all 4 inputs when using a USB-A port. You'll only be able to use phantom power on 2 of these inputs however, the other two will need to be dynamic mics.
That's disappointing to hear as we do try and get back to all messages as quickly as possible, do you have a ticket number for your request so we can get this sorted?
The EVO 8 only has one DI input designed to handle a direct connection to a guitar or bass. If you need to record more then you'd want to conenct a dedicated DI box up to the Mic/Line inputs of the EVO 8
The EVO 8 isn't officially supported on iOS but if connected with a USB hub and Apple camera connection kit, you should get basic input and output due to EVO 8 being a class complaint device.
Phantom power can be applied to each channel separately. Simply press a channel and press the +48v to enable phantom for that channel. Smart muting cannot be disabled but you can use speakers and headphones at the same time by using both sets of outputs
If you've got monitors connected to Outputs 1+2 and headphones connected to headphone out 2, then you would just use the separate volume controls to switch between the two. You can easily mute an output by pressing and holding the button for that output.
The headphones will mute the speaker output it is paired with. (HP1 will mute outputs 1+2, HP2 will mute outputs 3+4) so you can use 2 pairs of speakers, 2 sets of headphones or one of each.
You can connect these up to the ports on the rear, you may get a slightly different tone however due to the lower impedance of the inputs. Otherwise, you can connect a stereo DI box up to the line inputs on the rear
This interface is everything I want pending the answer to one question. The ideal setup I want is for me and my friend to both use two microphones and plug in two acoustic guitars. Am I still able to plug in those guitars in the preamp spots in the back and still get good quality sounds, or must a guitar be plugged into that front input?
Bought both the Evo 4 and Evo 8. Was truly disappointed the Evo 8 didn't have a physical "monitor mix" button like on the Evo 4. Can only adjust the "monitor mix" on the Evo 8 via the Evo Mixer application which means when connected to just a power source, I can't use the Evo 8 as a direct monitoring tool to practice in the bedroom. 😞😞😞
Unfortunately, when you've got multiple inputs and outputs to mix, just having a simple monitor mix control doesn't easily work. The EVO 8 is designed primarily and a computer audio interface not as a standalone pre-amp and in this use you would always have access to the mixer software. I'm sorry that the EVO 8 didn't work for your workflow however.
@@Audientworld cheers for the prompt reply. Your UA-cam team is definitely more on the ground than the email gatekeepers at Audient. I actually sent an email to inquire about this specific feature to a no-reply. All good though, I've accepted the limitations and moved on. Just a minor hiccup to an otherwise almost-perfect mobile interface, and that's a feat! Proper! Keep this up and you'll be blowing all the other interface manufacturers outta the water.
I'm sorry to hear you didn't a reply via email, we try and reply to all support enquires as soon as possible, I'll check with our team just incase there was a problem with the email address or similar that may have delayed this.
If the output is clipping you'll need to reduce the level of the signal the EVO 8 is playing. If you are in a DAW turn down the master fader, or if you are in a media player, reduce the volume control slightly.
The outputs on the EVO 8 are paired up. Speaker outputs 1+2 and headphone output 1 are linked and Monitor Outputs 3+4 are linked to headphone output 2. Plugging a set of headphones into a headphone port will automatically mute the monitor output it is linked to. You can have separate mixes going to each set of outputs however, great for artist mixes or headphone mixes.
Yes, you can do that. You'd just turn on the Artist mix in the EVO mixer software and pull up the channels you ant to send to that output to be processed.
EVO 8 is not officially compatible with iOS as there is currently no EVO software available for iOS and this greatly limits the functionality of the EVO 8 when used on iOS.
For live scenarios can I use EVO 8 for getting 4 instruments in and each out (separate) from the 4 outputs to the main mixer(Not 1+2 or 3+4, just 1,2,3 & 4)?? so the live volume control can be controlled by the mixer guy... Just had this doubt- Any suggestions are welcome
Yes, this would be possible if you have the Artist Mix enabled. Then, in the mixer, pull up the fader for the Mic 1 and Mic 2 channels and pan these hard left and hard right. Now go to the Artist Mix and pull up the Mic 3 and Mic 4 faders, again panning them hard left and right. Finally, turn the Master output controls to maximum using the buttons on the right of the interface itself.
Hi there, all of the technical information about each of the products can be found here: iD44: audient.com/products/audio-interfaces/id44/tech-specs/ EVO 8: evo.audio/products/evo-8/specifications/
@@Audientworld Just this week, there was a need to discard other interfaces and look for a portable and quality possibility in the 4-channel range, the ideal is bus-powered ... The only thing missing is compatibility with android, to make it the perfect solution.
With EVO 8 you could have your speakers in the first set of outputs, and your headphones plugged into the second set of headphone outputs. Setting it up this way means you are able to have audio going to both at the same time.
Hi there, What you can do is use the 2nd headphone output in conjunction with the first two line outputs on the rear of the device. This way you can listen to both at the same time.
Thank you for the feedback. Most modern MIDI gear uses USB connections so we decided to not add MIDI ports to keep the portable size and weight. Plus USB midi interfaces are available cheaply if you do have gear that uses 5-pin DIN connectors instead.

are you able to adjust the volume for both headphones individually with the big knob? or only in the mix software. thanks.

Does the evo come with a phantom power as the condenser mikes need it
Hello there, EVO 8 does give full phantom power over USB-C for condenser microphones.
I can’t wait for it to hit the US market!
Can you adjust the headphone outputs to be another L/R outputs for monitors? Thank you.
The headphone outputs can be used to drive small active speakers using a TRS splitter cable, however you cannot use them alongside the speaker outputs on the rear as connecting a set of headphones will mute that speaker output.
Are all line outputs •active• balanced? Or impedance balanced? This is such a great interface! Can’t wait to grab one.
The outputs on the EVO 8 are impedance balanced. Still gives you great common mode rejection but also means you can easily use unbalanced TS jacks if your monitors aren't don't have a balanced input

Output 3 - Click
Output 4 - Guides
Yes, this can be done by setting up cue mixes in the iD mixer app to feed the click and guide tracks to those particular outputs
@@Audientworld Thanks for explaining. I just ordered the Evo 8.
This isn't possible I'm afraid as a USB-A port doesn't have the power enable pins that are required. I'd reccomend an active USB hub with USB-C ports.
All 4 mics will be output to 4 separate tracks?
Yes, you can record all 4 inputs on separate tracks in your DAW with the EVO 8.
will this work like an amp? I mean, whether can I play songs from desktop and get output from stereo without any other input?
You can just use the EVO as a playback device on your computer. It will happily drive a pair of active speakers or headphones.
Will it be possible to enable monitor and headphone output at a time. I mean that, while recording, monitor out is to be for studio monitor, and headphone out is to vocal booth. But here your mentions the headphone jack plugs dominate all the output.. Please?
@@Audientworld that means ouout 3+4 and headphone output 2 can run at a time with a different volume level and control?
@@Audientworld thanks a lot...
The one I ordered does not work and customer service email is not getting back to me.
That's disappointing to hear as we do try and get back to all messages as quickly as possible, do you have a ticket number for your request so we can get this sorted?
LA NECESITO !! ES PERFECTA
It only has 1 instrument input? So I wouldn't be able to run 2 guitars and a bass simultaneously?
The EVO 8 only has one DI input designed to handle a direct connection to a guitar or bass. If you need to record more then you'd want to conenct a dedicated DI box up to the Mic/Line inputs of the EVO 8
Hi, is the evo 8 going to work well with Apple's catalina operating system?
EVO 8 is fully comaptible with macOS Catalina (10.15)
🙏🌹
would it work with an iPad Pro M2?
The EVO 8 isn't officially supported on iOS so we cant recommend it for use on a iPad Pro M2.
how can I install evo 8 driver in Linux Ubuntu, is it available?
I'm afraid we don't currently officially support Linux with our EVO or iD interfaces.
Can be used with an iPad or iPhone?
The EVO 8 isn't officially supported on iOS but if connected with a USB hub and Apple camera connection kit, you should get basic input and output due to EVO 8 being a class complaint device.
Is the phantom power can be applied to each channel individually or it will be on at all 4 channel at the same time?
Also can I disable the auto monitor mute when plugging headphones?
Phantom power can be applied to each channel separately. Simply press a channel and press the +48v to enable phantom for that channel.
Smart muting cannot be disabled but you can use speakers and headphones at the same time by using both sets of outputs
Does anybody know if this interface is compatible with Big Sur - m1 chip macs? Thank you!
EVO 8 is compatible with Big Sur and Apple M1 chips. 👍
@@Audientworld thank you!
can this handle a shure SM7B?
Yes, the EVO 8 would work well with an SM7B and will provide enough gain for most recording scenarios.
how would you switch between the headphone and monitor output??
If you've got monitors connected to Outputs 1+2 and headphones connected to headphone out 2, then you would just use the separate volume controls to switch between the two. You can easily mute an output by pressing and holding the button for that output.
Does it work nativly with mac m1?
EVO 8 works natively on M1 silicon and all our software is supported.
Can we use all speaker outputs and headphone outputs at the same time?
The headphones will mute the speaker output it is paired with. (HP1 will mute outputs 1+2, HP2 will mute outputs 3+4) so you can use 2 pairs of speakers, 2 sets of headphones or one of each.
What if I want to connect two unbalanced outputs(L/R in stereo) from my guitar effects processor? Are they suitable with the 4 ports?
You can connect these up to the ports on the rear, you may get a slightly different tone however due to the lower impedance of the inputs. Otherwise, you can connect a stereo DI box up to the line inputs on the rear
This interface is everything I want pending the answer to one question. The ideal setup I want is for me and my friend to both use two microphones and plug in two acoustic guitars. Am I still able to plug in those guitars in the preamp spots in the back and still get good quality sounds, or must a guitar be plugged into that front input?
Yes you can still plug the guitars into the back inputs
I bought one off Amazon and it didn't work. I got a 2nd one from a warranty exchange and the speaker jacks didn't work smh.
Can I check with you if you have a set of headphones connected as this will mute the speaker outputs via the EVO 8's smart muting function.
@@Audientworld so I can't have speakers and headphones plugged in at the same time?
You can but the Speakers would need to be connected to Outputs 1+2 and the headphones connected to Headphone output 2.
On evo 4 can you disable the smart mute feature?
The Smartmuting function on EVO 4 cannot be disabled.
Can I plug in and record two or three guitars at the same time?
There is only 1 Hi-Z DI input on the EVO 8 for guitars but if you're using external DI boxes then you can record up to four guitars at once.
@@Audientworld Thanks 🙌🏻😀
PC 1-2. Output clipping.....
What can i do?
If the output is clipping you'll need to reduce the level of the signal the EVO 8 is playing. If you are in a DAW turn down the master fader, or if you are in a media player, reduce the volume control slightly.
I can route the outputs the way I want?
The outputs on the EVO 8 are paired up. Speaker outputs 1+2 and headphone output 1 are linked and Monitor Outputs 3+4 are linked to headphone output 2. Plugging a set of headphones into a headphone port will automatically mute the monitor output it is linked to. You can have separate mixes going to each set of outputs however, great for artist mixes or headphone mixes.
@@Audientworld Thanks, but could I route a separate track in my DAW through a pair of outputs to process on outboard gear? TY
Yes, you can do that. You'd just turn on the Artist mix in the EVO mixer software and pull up the channels you ant to send to that output to be processed.
Nice
Hi audient,
Could you demonstrate how evo 8 would work on iOS devices? Especially the Direct monitoring part ;)
Thanks
EVO 8 is not officially compatible with iOS as there is currently no EVO software available for iOS and this greatly limits the functionality of the EVO 8 when used on iOS.
@@Audientworld well said, could you confirm the direct monitoring wont work on ios using say garageband? Thanks :)
The direct monitoring will not work on iOS as there is no application to control this.
@@Audientworld thanks for the prompt response… I am gonna try this out… ohh mahn for live sessions, this is gonna be a wicked setup. 😊
...is the EVO 8 compatible with Ableton 10?
Hi there - yes it is!
@@Audientworld ...much thanks!
Can anyone tell me the dynamic range n ein plz nepal
Dynamic range for the ADC's and DACs is 113dB A-weighted.
Hi Audient, would you please tell me the difference of audio quality on the pre-amps and converters of EVO 8 and id44?
Hi there, all of the technical information about each of the products can be found here:
iD44: audient.com/products/audio-interfaces/id44/tech-specs/
EVO 8: evo.audio/products/evo-8/specifications/
Audio quality, I go for it. Build quality, deal breaker...
5:10 which daws allows control of evo?
Logic Pro X gives Gain controls currently but you can also use the EVO mixer app to control the unit remotely
Android ? iOS ? usb-c (2.0) class compliant? 😮
The EVO 8 is USB Class Complaint but we don't officially support Android with our EVO interfaces at this moment in time.
@@Audientworld Just this week, there was a need to discard other interfaces and look for a portable and quality possibility in the 4-channel range, the ideal is bus-powered ... The only thing missing is compatibility with android, to make it the perfect solution.
Problem for driver.its only install 32 bit driver
The driver package will install both the 32 and 64 bit driver version. If you're having any issues with the install, please contact support@evo.audio
I would like to be able to hear on my speakers and on my head phones at the same time. Is the only thing I don’t like about it
That's exactly what you can do on the Evo8, that's also the primary reason I'm getting it.
With EVO 8 you could have your speakers in the first set of outputs, and your headphones plugged into the second set of headphone outputs. Setting it up this way means you are able to have audio going to both at the same time.
Love it! No more excuses. Let’s create music
Hi there,
What you can do is use the 2nd headphone output in conjunction with the first two line outputs on the rear of the device. This way you can listen to both at the same time.
Shame there are no midi inputs. :-/
Thank you for the feedback. Most modern MIDI gear uses USB connections so we decided to not add MIDI ports to keep the portable size and weight. Plus USB midi interfaces are available cheaply if you do have gear that uses 5-pin DIN connectors instead.
I bought this...not working 😕👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎
