Welcome to Part 2 of my "Spirit of Flight" DAC vs. DPD series. In this series, I'll be working on this piece from both companies, at the same time, and sharing progress and comparison videos as we go along.
Diamond Art Club and Diamond Painting Deutschland have very different approaches to rendering and colors, and the kits themselves look very different from one another, too. Both are licensed from artist Josephine Wall and both companies have really fabulous qualities. My goal with this series is not to pit these companies against one another, but to highlight what their strengths are and what you can expect if you were to order one of their kits.

I am enjoying seeing this process unfold. I think the DPD canvas more closely resembles the look and feel of the original artwork. I think the birds in the DAC version look cartoonish and would fit into an animated kids show.
I prefer the DAC version. Although DPD seems to be softer and closer to the original artwork, at the end of the day, it is a diamond painting that's like gonna end up framed on our walls. Once framed, no one is gonna comparing it to the original artwork with a microscope, lol. I want my DPs to impress, and I don't think the DPD version will. To me, it seems that the colors are washed out and it looks messy overall. (i.e., you can barely tell the birds from the background). Based on the other DAC Jo wall projects I completed and this initial comparison, I think DAC will be more vivid and vibrant and will be sure to look amazing IMO. For A DP translation to be effective, it is supposed to be different from the original image and DAC knows that very well. Actually, yesterday, someone posted Capricorn with 325 colors from DPD on Mrs Coffee Facebook group and the finished result looked like a 4/10. Seemed disappointing to me but that's just my opinion!

So far, I like the detail in the DAC version. I do like the way the sky and background looks in the DPD, but DAC is my favorite so far. I’m looking forward to seeing how her face turns out in both. That may be the deciding factor for me.
That is what I'm holding out for as well. Both are gorgeous though.
I prefer the colors on DPD. Agree on the crispness of the leaves on DAC. Can these two have a baby? I want a little bit of the features of both. Loving this project and your planned process of comparison of each section. Great work!
I kind of have to agree with you! I'm getting more and more tempted to get the Uniquely Yours Down Under version with 100ish colors 😬

Thank you so much for doing this video! To be 100% honest I like DAC more mainly because I feel the other seems to have less detail.

I think it all determines how individuals see the art work. They both have great features, I love the picture they are using. I agree with you in saying it feels like two different paintings. They are both looking amazing. Can't wait to see the next column.

Hi Katie! This is so exciting….loving what I see so far! I understand the idea behind the original the dreaminess-of it but I’m leaning more towards DAC myself for two reasons. First I like the detail, crispness and colors. Second, the amount of colors is less than 💯! The thought of working with that many colors at once would be too daunting to me…let alone kitting down! Kudos to you! Thank you for sharing I love all your videos ❤️Can’t wait to see more!
Hi Katie! I feel like each painting is in a league of its own. I like how DAC made the painting more “visible” by outlining the canvas without compromising the quality of the original painting. On the other hand, DPD seems to be pixilated in the video you shared; but I guess it’s hard to assess it without seeing the actual finished DP in my own eyes. Anyway, thanks for keeping us updated about your challenging adventure! 😻 I’m glad that you are enjoying it despite working on two ginormous DPs. 😹
I really enjoyed seeing the original artwork side-by-side with the two canvases! For me, I like the DAC detail better on the bottom with the leaves, however, I like the sky better on the Diamond Painting Deutschland canvas. I like that the colors of the original artwork are represented there. This is going to be such an exciting journey and I can’t wait to see your progress!
I think the original artwork lends itself so well to the DPD version. Yes, I love how crisp the DAC one is but for JoWall artwork and the watercolour affect it looks amazing so far in DPD one! Love seeing it work up, Katie!! You go go go!😱

I really like the way the colors blend on the DPD canvas, but they are both beautiful in their own ways!
So amazing to see the difference between the two canvases. I definitely prefer the softer feel of the DPD version, and I also feel it is a closer match to the original artwork. Both canvases are beautiful! 💜

Both are beautiful love the crispness of the DAC but I think the sky in DPD blends in a more natural way and looks closer to the original piece.Will enjoy watching this series.
They are both beautiful. I think if someone is looking for a closer rendition then go with DCD. I prefer the DAC version because of the vibrancy of color. I look forward to see further comparisons as you go.
I absolutely Love this! I would Love to see more comparisons in the future. So far, I think I Love the Diamond Art club better, even though there are less colors. I prefer the definition!
I luv both of them, but so far I like the details in the birds and the color better in the DAC, but I also like the watercolor look of the other one, this is a Great project Katie, can’t wait to watch your progress🥰
I like the top half better on the DPD version, but the bottom half better on the DAC version! 😆 This is such a cool comparison!

They are pretty much turning out how I thought they would; DAC would be clearer but DPD would be closer to the artwork itself. Both are beautiful. It's very interesting what similarities they have & what differences they have. Keep it up, you're doing great!! ~ Kel

DAC has a more outlined, cartoon feel with their rendering style (not that its bad, on this canvas they don’t over outline but everything is definitely more defined). Personally I prefer the DPD one because it looks closer to the source! It’s almost vintage in its rendering style.
The DPD renders more closely to the original artwork, IMO
I think the DPD resembles the art work more than DAC. Great job on the comparison!

With all of those colors I thought the Deutschland would most resemble the original. I'm a little shocked that, as of now anyway, DAC seems to be closer. I'll wait till you get further along to be sure. All of those colors are going to make a beautiful watercolor effect of the picture if nothing else. 😊
I am not gonna lie, When you mentioned that you plan to do the same huge kit of 2 stores for comparison I thought: do the same kit twice? This girl must be crazy? I don’t need A comparison!... OMG! I couldn’t be more confused! I never imagine that the difference would be so extreme! I thought that for this style of images I would prefer DPD but now I am not sure 🤔... definítely I will be following your comparison between this two kits... And as someone mentioned in the comments, a baby of this two kits looks like would be the perfect match to the original artwork! 🤣🤣🤣 you are fast! And brave forget do 1 of these kits, I can’t I imagine 2! and is your second j. Wall from DPD! just WOW! 🤩🤩🤩

Wow it amazing to see the comparison between the two. I thought with more colours there be more detail, but I think DAC has the edge at the moment for detail. But having said that DPD is more close to the original version. X
As others have said, the original work seems to rest somewhere between the crisp look of the DAC and the dreamy look of DPD. Excited to see how things might change as you get to her face and other details.
Wow, that's really interesting to see that there's so much difference already. DAC's colour seems a bit off to me, especially in the middle where it's sort of yellow sky instead of blue, but I do like that the imagery is a bit sharper... a little too sharp though, go figure. DPD is a little too soft in areas and some things are getting a bit lost.
However, a looong way to go, and when there's a bit more context and perhaps viewing from further away (especially the DPD one, the softness might not be so bad from further away).

I thought I was going to like the DAC one better when you first showed it, but now I think I prefer the DPD. I think the DPD is closer to the original art. I really like the teal around the birds rather than the yellow.
At 1st looking at both comparisons I thought the DAC one was better because it was much brighter and better defined. But when you showed the original artwork I thought the DPD was much closer to what the painting was supposed to look like. I would so love to do the one from DPD just because it has so many colours but I don't know if I could ever manage it lol. And I can't wait to see it when you have them Both done.
Thank you so much for this thoughtful and beautiful comparison of two paintings. I am intimidated by the number of colors in the DPD, however I find that the rendering is closer to the ethereal feeling of the Josephine wall original. I look at the DAC and I feel that the birds especially look like little cartoons. When you look at the original There are no eyes or beaks but rather it’s almost as if the birds melt into the sky. And I find that the DPD does a better job with the rendering. I’m going to keep on watching and looking forward to all the updates. Thank you so much Katie.

I like the diamond painting deutchland version I feel like it's closer to the original artwork however I'm not sure that I would purchase from them I would probably be more inclined to purchase from DAC which is more affordable for me then the other company. Thank you for sharing your progress in your updates I look forward to more videos in the future of more progress on these 2 pieces it looks beautiful

No comparison at all. The DPD looks very elegant to me, the DAC “somewhat cartoonish” pertaining to the birds. I had not heard of the DPD company and am VERY intrigued. More colors, oh gosh, I cannot wait to see the finished products side by side. I’m a huge fan of DAC but if I’m going to spend a lot of time on a large DP, I want it to be stunning and like a mosaic of the original painting. Lovely 🥰
I actually like both versions, because they offer different rendering styles! Man.......I think I need both versions!!! I love this idea of doing both renderings!
I love the DPD version. Just wish they also worked with poured glue canvasses.
So far I like the DAC version. When u put up the original painting, I still feel like DAC has a better rendering so far.
I am adding ab’s to my DPD Spirit of Flight. So far I feel that DPD is more like the original artwork based on what you have done, and I am working on the opposite side. The eyes on the birds bother me because it pops out way too much compared to the original artwork. I might add them but 3799 maybe. I think the 310 too much. We’ll see. Loved the video❤️
I think I prefer the dpd one the colours are more realistic than the dac I've just got joie Dr vivre from dpd and crazy cat lady from dac can't wait to start them xx
Both pictures are looking pretty good so far, however the game changer is going to happen once you get to the face area. I'm all about how faces are rendered in DP. THAT will be the true comparison. I can't wait to see.

It looks DAC is looking clear, but it’s hard to sat because the other one contains so much detail. It’s going to be interesting to see this to the end
You clearly see that DPD comes closer to the original artwork, but I also love the bright colours from DAC
I think the bigger is maybe the closest to the original art work. I personally like the brightness of the DAC one x

This is a fascinating comparison. I have the DAC JW's Spirit of Flight, almost half way done. I am liking how the the other one is looking more like the original and not so "bam in your face" feel. Cant wait to see it finished. I purchased a JW's Star Gazing from Uniquely Yours Down Under, received today. Curious how it will turn out. Thanks for your video.
Funny I like both, but different parts. I like the colors on the bottom of the DAC, and the colors on the upper part of DPD. Overall I do like more the pastel colors from DPD.
I am really curious to see how this project proceeds and if, by the end, I will change my opinion.
So far, I like DAC better because there’s a lot more definition....but as you go along I think the overall effect is going to look better with DPD. DAC has an oil painting feel while DPD has a pastel look.
I like the crispness of the DAC version and the sharp contrasts , but the render of the original artwork does have to go to DPD when you popped in that cut of the original artwork. Both are absolutely stunning despite that.
I prefer the leaves on the DAC because the DPD looks a bit washed in comparison. However DAC seems to have totally alternated the colors in the sky from blues to yellows and browns, and it looks way too different from the original. The birds' eyes shouldn't have been added.
The DAC version birds look a little cartoony in their faces and the shading in DPD is lovely.
I can see that the DAC is more crisp, the other one, to me, is not crisp enough, probably because they are using to many colors, comparing it to the original painting clip you presented. I prefer the crispness of the DAC.
I feel like the original should be put between the two - DAC looks more "cartooney", and DPD a little bit washed out. Though I prefer DPD, because I'm annoyed of the beaks and eyes in DAC. Makes what I would identify as doves look like seagulls.
Apart from that, they are both an amazing adoption in their own way.
The bottom bit on the dac looks more darker then the German one and as the colours go up the columns both diamond paintings use diffrent colours in the dp it’s going to be nice comparison
I think that DPD is more true to the image, but the DAC is so true to their rendering style!
It's interesting, the original art seems to be almost in the middle of the 2 companies. DPD seems to have a closer grasp of the colors, but DAC is so much clearer. So far I'm leaning towards preferring DAC's rendition though.
I really do agree (about the original art being somewhere between the two). Someday maybe I'll try out the 100ish color version from Uniquely Yours Down Under - maybe that'll be the sweet spot!
I think DPD is closer to the original artwork, but I prefer DAC as it's more defined. I'm not a huge fan of J Wall's artwork, but maybe that's why I prefer the DAC rendering?!
I like the colors and look of the DPD one better overall. it matches the watercolor of the artwork. I do like the bottom part of the DAC rendering. It’s a bit more defined. The top is a bit too harsh. I think if DPD did some corrective hand rendering after the digital one it would be stellar.
I’m very curious about the rest, but at your own pace please. It’s not worth it to burn out over it.
I think you really hit the nail on the head. I'd be so curious to see DPD do a hand-rendered touch up of their computer rendering. I think that would make it absolutely stunning!

I feel like DPD looks, in comparison to the original artwork, the most accurate in colour and somewhat detail. I do find it to be slightly more washed out and less detailed, like the actual flower detailing at the bottom isn't as defined as the OG artwork and definitely the beaks and eyes that are in the OG painting just aren't there with the DPD version. Even the colouring, with 200+ colours, you'd think they'd get the colouring and placement correct but even that isn't wholly accurate to the OG artwork, you can tell in the sky where it loses a lot of the purple the painting has and just keeps it blue mostly with hints of purple.
Whereas DAC looks very detailed, specific, and contrasted slightly. I think the colours are more intense due to the contrast and saturation, but they've also added in tiny details where they feel like they should be and I find it translates much better in terms of being a Diamond painting. I wish DAC did keep closer to the original colours however, like in the sky in the OG painting it's a lot more purple and blue in the sky, and even though DPD doesn't even translate it very well, DAC completely removed the purple and distorted it so it was grey instead. I think that although the contrast is usually nice, I think when they chose to remove all the purple from the sky and make it grey instead, they lost out on one of the reasons JoWall is so loved, her colour palette choices and I think it was the wrong edit in this particular case.
All in all, I definitely prefer DAC's rendering for sure b/c although DPD is slightly more comparable to the OG artwork, sometimes with Diamond Paintings, things need to be edited and changed so it makes for a better Diamond Painting and I think DAC did that with the contrast of colours and stronger details b/c Diamond Paintings at the end of the day is essentially rendered like pixel art and without strong details, the rendering tends to look dull and un-detailed without imo
I prefer the DAC version as colours are more vibrant + more detail in it. I thought that other 1 would be more closer to orginial as has loads more colours but to me seems a lot duller in comparison.
I think the DP Deutschland version is far better and much more faithful to the original. There are some strange changes on the DAC ones, e.g. the faces on the birds and the colour of the sky behind them is totally different. The DAC one is an interpretation of the original artwork rather than a recreation in my opinion
Im reserving judgment but at the start the DPD is truer to the original and I like the depth the additional colors are giving. Also, completely different skies, that's interesting. That said I like that the DAC gave the birds eyes. It bugs me when creatures have no eyes!! 😬
I love the DAC one much better because of clarity and brightness of colors but that’s what I enjoy in my DP canvases in general. Not a big fan of soft transitions and muted colors
So far, I feel like the original art is in between the 2 versions, closer to DPD. That said, I like some aspects of the DAC version. Time will tell...
I'm liking the DAC more so far, the colors are brighter and more crisp. However I wish they hadn't taken out the blue around the birds and replaced it with more yellow. I feel like thay strays just a bit too far off the original artwork.
There's only one way to respond to "let's get down to business" if you ask me 😂I think the DPD is closer to the original art, but I would love something in between the two. I feel like DAC in general sometimes uses really dark colors when maybe it could be a softer color for outlines, or like in the eyes for the birds in this one.

When you put the original artwork next to the two renderings, it appears to be somewhere in between, as far as clarity of images.
I'm trying not to think...hmmm, I wonder if Uniquely Yours, with its 100ish colors would hit between the clarity of the two...🤔
Girrrrrl, I thought about it! Why not add a third kit to the crazy mix? 🤣 Maybe someday, but today is not that day, haha!

I feel DAC has more detail and clarity and a closer representation of the original artwork.
I love both versions. DAC is clearer and presents a different overall feel to the painting. I don’t care for DACs sky tho - too much yellow. The DACD version isn’t as clear but presents a more realistic feeling and the sky background looks much better. Just more realistic overall feeling. DAC just doesn’t seem real. Even the eye makeup is a bit much. I do love DAC in general but their renderings aren’t as realistic as some other companies. They’re a little “cartoonish” if you will. And I have noticed their eye makeup is a little overdone in some renderings. I do enjoy clear crisp renderings. But I also like some paintings to look more real. Particularly skies and faces. Both renderings are beautiful just very different styles.
Where did you find an Elizabeth Ward that hold 60 colors. I can’t find one that big .
The Elizabeth Ward Storage Tray can hold up to 82 Tiny Containers. If you need additonal sizes of the containers, you can buy them off of Amazon. The prices of the containers have jumped though.

I do prefer the DAC version because of the crispness. The DPD version seems faded and washed out.
I think the painting is softer than DAC, and more crisp than DPD.
