Why do we trim horse and cow hooves?

- Just like us, cows, horses, and pigs need consistent hoof maintenance and upkeep like "nail" trims to stay healthy and comfortable 💅 Overgrown hooves can be very painful and can lead to infections, diseases and other serious health problems. So now it's time for the animals to get manicures-and your support helps us continue this work!

It seems so many of the hoof trim vids online only tend to cattle once they are in some sort of serious need, as opposed to regular maintenance. Idk if that is just what gets posted, b/c those vids/clips get more views, or if this is really the standard practice of most cattle farms, as it seems to be? I do realize *some* conditions can get bad quite quickly, but it really does seem overall they are so neglected...

Most cattle do get regular hoof mateinince but it’s important to remind yourself that cows are prey animals it is very difficult to tell when they are in pain and only tend to show pain when it is serious
@@FayeAdventure that’s true that’s very true because if you’re a prey Animal and you show pain you’re basically a sitting duck for any potential predator because they tend to target the young, the old and the weak
I know it's like clipping nails and doesn't hurt but it looks so scary with all the tools 😱
¿I wonder, does it hurt to the animals to do that? It looks so harshly.
When our cattle get their feet done and walk out they'll stand there a few minutes then they'll start jumping and spinning. I would assume they feel better getting all the gunk out of hooves. I've never seen ours act as if it hurts, but let me tell you it sure doesn't smell pleasant when they grind that hoof.
@@strongbamboo5947 There are videos of clipping cats' nails right so that it doesn't hurt (people exluded). I'm pretty sure that @strongbamoo5947 can tell more about cows and horses and another animals

Thier feet are so nice also because they are kept in such nice areas too not in mucky wet debris filled paddocks when things get embedded in cow hooves especially. They have beautiful feet ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

They aren’t joking either I watch the Hoof GP every time he uploads so I know what a overgrown hoof looks like and I went to the Santa Clarita location of the gentle barn and both the cows and horses hooves were immaculate, So gentle barn I thank you for taking supremely good care of these animals and these animals will pass over the rainbow bridge knowing that their loved and to me that’s the best thing you can do for them

All you have to do to understand why horses and cows need their hooves trimmed is go watch the hoof gp. The things that can happen to untrimmed hooves are horrible, painful, and sometimes irreparable.
Same reason for shearing sheep (that are wool sheep, not hair sheep) twice a year. It's for the comfort of the animal we've bred to be like this.

Quick question. Why do animals in human care need nail clippings? Would they naturally not need them in the wild (if not, please tell me why), or would they also need them in the wild but are just unable to get them?

Hi 👋 Vet Nurse here! Wild cows/horses/buffalo etc roam over much bigger areas than the ones that live on farms etc. They also traverse much more rugged ground which helps keep the hoofs down. Hope this helped! 👍🏻
