    Nice Joe, I need to get some of those cubes, because i have more records to organize. I'm going to remake my video, explaining more about the set up.

    Good topic though don't know that I added much to the discussion. But I like your idea of having discussion/feedback threads that aren't necessarily tied to contests. Always good to generate new videos and discussion.

    Hey thanks for the video it was just a nice little chat bouncing ideas off each other here's my thoughts. Genre rather than a-z or more specific mood sections so you can find what you feel like or general areas of your life/purchase patterns. I have converted to Ikea for living room looks and the different sizes meant I could put them around awkward corners and support beams. Did have my teenage/single years where I had old metal storage shelves from the shop I'd worked in with kitchen worktop surface space on top for decks/mixing purposes. I totally agree that spines look like unused libraries in a way although the colours can look pretty neat, ideally like you nice racks would be so much better but they'd have to be at the right height for not getting bad backs and with the totally sealed plastic sleeves thin have a certain cool cellophane seal and noise hope that doesn't sound to odd! And last comment often free finds such as your boxes and made things often turn out the most satisfying and adaptable there just isn't what you want on the market. Look out on ebay for old oversized bookshelves perhaps? Thanks again keep posting!

    Enjoyed seeing your records, Joe, even though you have many more you didn't show. Do you think that one day you will have them all in one large humongous unit? You have a lot of records and you're still collecting so that might be impossible. Can't help you on the Expedit since I don't have one but that might change in the future. Take care, Joe.

      Beatlecat -- I may one day have everything together in one massive unit, I'm not sure yet. As I said in the video, these aging eyes are having more trouble reading the tiny lettering on the spines of the albums these days and I much prefer the "flipping through front covers" style.

      The crates are stackable, but they don't make them anymore!! So I have been going with the more unattractive product called "the superior milk crate" for record collecting.

    Wooden record crates are getting harder to find but they're still the best way to store records in my personal opinion. www.mikesvinylandvintage.com/listing/637936613/peaches-record-lp-crate-kit-original-box

    Alphabetical order. Multiple albums for an artist are placed in chronological order.
    The only issue with this is that it seems every time I have a party I have to sort it all out again the next morning. lol

    If I had the Ikea shelves I wouldn't let the divider boards interrupt the alphabetical order of the album's, I would just continue across regardless of the dividers if you know what I mean. I do have my own album's arranged alphabetically and it raises a question about arranging Paul's solo records, are the album's labeled "Wings" arranged separately from those labeled "McCartney" or "McCartney & Wings" ? I currently have "Wildlife", "Venus & Mars", "At The Speed Of Sound", and "Wings Over America" in the (W) area, even though I consider them to be essentially Paul's project's. -Not an earth shattering issue of course, but just wondering how others treat this.

    • @MeanMrMayo
      @MeanMrMayo  10 років тому

      Oh, I definitely just file 'em under "McCartney" . To me it's more a matter of the simplest way to find them, as opposed to being "official", if you know what I mean.

    • @Beatlecat1
      @Beatlecat1 10 років тому

      Thomas, I'm definitely with Joe on this. I would think that anything Paul solo, or Paul and Wings, or even Paul's Fireman project, should be filed under McCartney. For what it's worth, I went to a record store last week and that's how they had them grouped.

    • @sbutler860
      @sbutler860 10 років тому

      Here's what I do: Alphabetically by artist, but within each artist the albums would be filed chronologically. But McCartney several interesting questions:
      1. What to do about artists that were members of several groups, or who released work in collaboration with others? I always filed McCartney's solo records under M, despite many being credited to 'Wings' or 'The Fireman.'
      2. Do you file your 'Mc' albums BEFORE your 'MA'? Library rules indicate that you should.
      3. Where do you file your albums by artists who simply pick another name? Artists affected by this issue include McCartney (The Fireman - albeit in collaboration), Rain Tree Crow (Japan) and Passengers (U2).
      4. Similarly, what about Led Zeppelin and Robert Plant? Though, alphabetically, one should file Plant under P, I sometimes like to consider Led Zeppelin as the 'umbrella' group and have all members' solo albums directly thereafter, giving an overview of the complete work of someone like Robert Plant - who also, remember, released a couple of solo albums in collaboration with fellow Zeppelin alumni Jimmy Page. This also helps solve problems with 'Best Of' compilations that feature a band and its chief solo artist - Sting & The Police, Blondie & Debbie Harry, Roxy Music & Bryan Ferry, etc.
      Just a few thoughts.

      @MeanMrMayo  10 років тому

      Stephen Butler
      1. I link solo artists together along with their bands (The Runaways with Joan Jett, Debbie Harry with Blondie, Robert Planet with Led Zeppelin, etc).
      2. I would put MA before Mc -- because my goal is not to follow any strict library rules or anything, it's whatever comes easiest for me to find my stuff. I have heard that some people alphabetize by first name (like "P" for PAUL McCartney)...

    where did you find the boxes?

    • @MeanMrMayo
      @MeanMrMayo  10 років тому

      They were stocked at my Target department store. I just came from there to buy a couple more, but they no longer have them (and they haven't for the last few times I went). I have a feeling I may have to order them online. They have no handles (which is the one drawback) but the records go down deep enough inside that you can stack them . -- EDITED: Even online now it seems hard to find these crates... I might turn to the "Supreme Milk Crates" sold at The Container Store, and which are also stackable and accommodate LPs --

    By the way, my copy of "Band On The Run" is simply credited "Paul McCartney" on the spine, which always surprised me, as I always thought of it as a "McCartney & Wings" labeled project. Is this how your LP is labeled? -Sorry, I realize that this is getting off-topic from your video.

    • @Beatlecat1
      @Beatlecat1 10 років тому

      Hey Thomas, I just checked and my "Band On the Run" also lists only Paul McCartney on the spine. Weird, huh?
