Thanks so much for the overview brotha! Glad to hear you are a fan of the design. From what I’ve seen and heard from Kizer, it looks like the initial goal for hardness was 60-63, with an achieved hardness of 62-64. Very excited to see a test on this!
Just wanted to say to @PaulMunko. Beautiful design sir speaking for the truly large handed minority, thank you 🙏👊
Love your art Paul! The Fallen is beautiful.
The clairvoyant is the most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen
@@dstone9748thank you so much! Wanted to make something that would fit anyone and I think we were able to accomplish that here, happy you’re enjoying it!!
@@kosher8720thank you!!!
Now that is a beautiful and ergonomic design. I like that it's not a flipper tab, just so it doesn't have that bump when it's open (between your fingers/the blade).
I'm seriously considering this just because I love that blade design.
Just ordered one of these. Bought on looks alone. Micarta looks a lot like the micarta on my Kizer XL button lock. Really like the blade shape and subtle color and texture combination.
Also using LC200N in a new Ti Drop-Bear. kinda cool they are working with these mainly Spyderco steels.
The Mystic looks amazing..
Resistance finally crumbled today and I ordered one. It has practically everything I like/want so I knew it was only a matter of when, not if.
Very nice some flavor in the “minimalist” era lol. I love Kizers detents. They really have them dialed in.
Kizer listed the hardness at 60-63 on the page where I bought mine. I love the knife but I have pretty big hands. My boy @Knifedope turned me on to this knife as soon as he saw it. I bought it right away. Super happy with it.
Definitely like the overall pattern. The handle especially, and the attitude of the blade.
The scallop not so much, but not a deal breaker.
I need REX45 in my life! I also hope they can do a small and medium sized versions as well. Pm2 or para3 sized would be perfect
One thing to note is that the lanyard pin can be taken out by just removing the inlay on the show side, a lot less work than most lanyard pin designs
Kizer has been KILLIN the knife game! I had to of gotten 7 new knives from Kizer in just the past 2 months!!
I got 3v steel! 10v steel! S35vn!
AMAZING designs at fantastic prices!
Cold steel type vibes for sure price vs material
What's their basic steel 154cm? I'm coming around to that(I always gave it s#&! Because of the name) never liked it, but was cool with CPM-154.
Odd hu?
Yes. I need this.
I’m kinda surprised that they selected Rex 45, I thought it was supposed to be a bit of a pain in the ass to work with. But I’m very glad that they did it.
Great looking knife. I'd like to see a minimal mystic w it all sized to 3.25.
Hopefully LuvThemKnives gets this one into one of his HRC testing batches
I absolutely love Kizer knives. They make up over 50% of my entire knife collection. But, the last two premium knives that I bought from them have had issues. I bought the Gemini in titanium and s35vn and when I got it, they'd done such a weird and terrible job sharpening that they actually changed the shape of the blade near the tip. It looked awful and was very frustrating, especially with a premium knife. I don't know if it was some Rookie's first day, but when you're getting a premium knife that is inexcusable especially nowadays. I also bought the ppy in raffir and brass. Such a beautiful knife! But once again, when I got home I noticed that there was a dent in the blade of the knife that was large enough that it went up past the height of sharpening choil and I don't know if I want to risk sharpening it out! On top of that, it also has absolutely terrible stick to it and it's so hard to deploy the blade that I can't do it by reverse flicking and can only thumb flick it. It Rockets out when it deploy is because it takes so much force to deploy it! I'm definitely no expert with knife repair, and Unfortunately, both knives were final sale only from House of knives so I couldn't return them. It's the only two times I've had an issue with Kizer knives, but those two knives cost about $500 Canadian total and it's definitely frustrating
From what I heard the hardness of this Rex 45 blade is between 61-63HRC. I really hope Kizer manage to get it as close to 63 as possible. But I don't think it will be a "bad" performer even at 61, though you won't get the absolute maximum potential out of the steel. And I don't think it's a bad price for what you get. PS: That hardness range was given when I asked Paul Munko, and that's the range he got from Kizer.
I want to hold it! That handle looks comfy!
I agree on the HRC just let us know
Advanced Knife Bro is whom I rely on for the best steel tester and consider him next to Larrin Thompson. 🍻🥳
Something that’s happened that kind of goes unnoticed is that these steels are now being named instead of composition references (like knives) and it’s f*cling awesome. I am wondering if buyers can assume the steel, then, is properly heat treated since it has a name. Magnacut better be magnacut, red45 better be rex45, and cry-wear better be cru-wear. Right? What do you think???
I certainly don't have all the time in the world, however I did buy one...and I make knives. I have the ability to test mine. I'll release results on mine but keep in mind that different batches may have different numbers. I have soyderco para2 in s90v with a 54 rockwell and of course...according to the comment section, I'm a liar. 😅. Anyway, I guess I'll be the first to post results on this model unless LTK beats me to it. The race is on. 😎🤘
I was so close to getting this, but I just sweat too much and that steel doesn't have too good corrosion resistance. 😬
I have palmar hyperhydrosis (sweaty palms) but I still got it and it's annoying to have to wipe it down everytime I touch. Mines already rusting..but I still love it.
Kiser jimping it so soft. Do they know how to make real jimping ? Rex 45 or 154cm.
Is it a stainless
They need to make a sub 3 inch blade
Dude I have complained to Kizer for about 2 years now, that they need to start listing their hardness range on their steel. Hopefully, if reviewers keep harping on it, they will listen and start listing the HRC range (at least on their website). I basically had to ask and ask in the Kizer group to get the hardness of their Elmax, CPM 3V & 4V, 20CV/M390.
I've been looking for the hrc of their 20cv. Can't find anything anywhere. Did u ever find out?
@@Dingersandstrikes From what I remember it was the standard 59-61 HRC, Elmax was 60-62hrc, 4V 61-63, S90V 60-62. Not sure if they have stuck with that for every model. Would be really nice to see Kizer list their HRC. Also have the community do third-party testing with people that have (or have access) to Rockwell equipment. That way we can address Kizer if they need to step up their game (again).
Pretty sure they said 60-63 for the rex45 I believe
Man benchmade started doing magnacut and the HRC is way tooooo low to be acceptable
“Sorry lefties…”
Sigh… it’s ok, we used to it. Thanks for stepping up to bat for us.
I guess this knife was inspired by a harpoon gun evidently the designer is from Maine
Connecticut actually! Based on a place a used to visit, the Mystic seaport!
@@PaulMunkoTV well thanks for the clarification bro that’s awesome secondhand information from UA-cam reviews isn’t always correct I see lmao. It’s a great looking knife in any case.
Rex 45 claim to be 67 HRC
Big reason it's so cheap... it's probably like 55hrc. I have one in 10v & was one of the biggest let downs, the edge is so soft if you sneeze it rolls!? AUS8 puts it to shame
Besides branding their so much
Ouch
I guess it's just in case you forgot what you knife you bought. That's lame. In my opinion
It looks like they screwed on some wood pallets to the side as the handle. And not even the nice wood pallets.
Everything getting more expensive but businesses doing it cheaper. Gtfo
Weathered wood. Very trendy.
@@rebellucy6200 yah, weathered wood. City people spend a few hundred a plank. I just grab some from the barn that fell over our back. There is nothing special about it....
What a waste. To put that kind of steel with its properties into some over-stylized and "look its special" (but really its boring and IMO ugly) Ti frame lock knife with some weird and less useful blade shape. Make a bigger Escort or an XL Drop Bear with a 3.5" blade, full high-end micarta scales in Rex45 THATS a useful (and cool) knife... Ti frame/liner-locks are about as _UNDESIRABLE_ as a knife can get to me.
Ok 👍
I have to admit, with my limited knowledge about knives.....How is this a less useful blade design?
I will never understand why people like this gross looking green linen micarta. Looks disgusting lol. Any other color/material would be fine. Micarta pivot collars is strange too. Other than that it actually looks like a super cool knife
Thanks
