The original caliber 11 from 1969 is a completely different movement from this modern caliber 11. The original had a micro rotor. I have a large collection of 1960s and 70s era Heuers with the original caliber 11 movement. This modern edition has some nice improvements to the case. For example the pushers are rectangular rather than round. The original had a 12 hour register. I do wish they would add a 12 hour register instead of the running seconds hand. Even so, this is my favorite modern watch from Tag Heuer.

My only problem is that this is a different Cal. 11 as the original one. The original one has a 12-hour totalizer at 9 o'clock and a 30-minute sub-dial at 3 o'clock and no small seconds. This one has no hour totalizer, only a 30 minute totalizer at 9 o'clock and small seconds at 3 o'clock. They should not have called it cal. 11 IMHO.

I just got my GULF Edition Monaco last week. I can’t say how impressed I am of the build quality, which is only evident when the watch is in hand. The ease of use is also appreciated, and the strap is very comfortable and clever. I also own the GULF Edition TH Formula One with the leather strap, but the watches couldn’t be more different. I’m loving them and the F1Senna also.
I have this watch. Calibre 11 is a must if you get the Monaco!

I used to lust over Omega Seamaster 300's and Rolex Explorers... But I really want a Tag Heuer Monaco. It's just pure class and I can't think of a better style icon than Steve McQueen.
I own a rolex explorer and an omega speedmaster. I am now considering the Tag Heuer Monaco, it's so stylish!
I love this watch, I think the calibre 11 is one of the most beautiful and recognisable watches ever made. I just wish the strap was blue, like the Gulf.

Just purchased the Monaco caliber 11 from Chrino24
This is one of the classics together with the Rolex Submariner and Omega Speedmaster.
Daytona is #1 ultimate classic. Nothing comes close. From there it’s the Submariner then Speedmaster and Monaco.
@@chrisdobz4468 there is no hierarchy the way I described it. They are all classics. And if we’re talking Daytona, well, then it would be the Paul Newman version, not the modern one of course.

Thank you very much for the video. The MONACO is an really awesome , beautiful watch, in all modifications, a watch with spirit, and it is unique. My personal favorite is the Gulf Edition, because i love the very special GULF Colours. Anyway, nobody wears the MONACO as cool as Mr. Steve McQueen. Salut from Germany...

The actual driver worn an Autavia, at the time of filming, they were too difficult to acquire and so they settled on the Monaco for the film.
Lots of cool factor with the Monaco. I do wish Tag would improve their presentation box though; and I know, you just put it in the closet anyways. For the money though, they have to step it up, especially on some of their premium offerings.
Hey Mike, can't deny that the box and overall presentation is an important factor when buying a new watch. What are you missing with the Tag Heuer boxes? Are you a fan of Omega's presentation? Guess you like the Speedmaster boxes. Cheers, Pascal
Chrono24 I sure hope your response is sarcasm... No, I don’t like the Speedy’s presentation box, you don’t need a briefcase. However, it’s quite sad that the presentation box found on a Hamilton or Tissot are of better quality than the Tag. It’s that cheap looking pillow that kills it. It certainly doesn’t give the feeling of a $7500 CAD watch when you’re unboxing it.
why can they still call it caliber 11 when it's based off a sellita movement (SW300-1) which in turn is a 'copy' of an ETA movement (ETA 2892)?

It is the most beautiful watch ever!!! 👌 But it wasn't McQueen to choose the watch, it just was the only model available because it wasn't selling, as Jack Heuer himself tells us ua-cam.com/video/no0MZnGGQ6A/v-deo.html Also this modern CAW211's movement has absolutely nothing to do with the original 1969 Caliber 11 movement, besides the name... I like your channel and videos but a website as important as yours just has the obligation to be correct on your statements.

@@mrgee007yes this video is littered with mistakes. But on the movement itself, I actually don't mind the modular ETA base with Dubois chronograph on top - it's the only way to keep the crown in the left and Dubois Depraz was one of the original collaborators in the Calibre 11, so I consider it a part of a legacy and history.
