our 4 month old kitten absolutely LOVED your video. he sat and listened to you talking (and to the kittens in the background meowing) the whole time. now let's just hope that I can train him to be better behaved! he is on our counters in the kitchen even though he knows he's not supposed to be (including the VERY top counters, that he gets to by jumping onto the top of the refrigerator! ugh!)
Noona, some key tips to keep in mind: 1) Cats who are used to being free-fed may need to have their meals decreased and feed them only what they'll work for. 2) Some cats may also need some time before they start understanding that they're no longer being free-fed but are earning food through training. 3) The cue word/sound must be unique so that they respond to it every time. If the cat ignores his name, you must use a different word that you use ONLY for these "come when called" games.
4) When training "come when called", we must pair that unique sound with the food lure every time and make sure that the cat is hungry enough to eat it. Otherwise, he won't make the association between unique sound and food reward. 5) Once the cat has clearly made the association, we can add distance and start calling from farther away. Then, we can start rewarding intermittently instead of every time. For more tips, see Dr. Yin's blog: "Super Simple Method for Training Cats"

Wow, this is brilliant. For once someone offering Kitten rearing advice who actually has methods that work.
This was excellent.
Thank you Sophie!

I think they were about 9-10 weeks old at the time.

Good video. My cat is very hyper and chews up electrical cords. She is also 4 years old. Is there an age limit to this training?
