June 21 at the Steven J. Ross theater on the lot at Warner Brothers the so awaited movie Elvis was presented and followed by a Q&A with director/producer/writer Baz Luhrmann, producers Gail Berman and Schuyler Weiss and actor Austin Butler. The screening was a pre-release guild screening with members of BAFTA, Producers Guild and other guilds in the audience. The screening started at 7 PM and after the full credits ran, the Q&A started immediately after. The audience applauded enthusiastically at the end of the film and when he came out on stage many of the members of the audience stood up.
The question that was asked how did Baz decide what to keep and what to cut out as part of assembling the life of Elvis for this film. Which is why he started talking about the 4-hour cut that he has available, and he answers that question with his usual long and detailed manner.
Elvis is a 2022 biographical musical drama film directed by Baz Luhrmann, who co-wrote the screenplay with Sam Bromell, Craig Pearce and Jeremy Doner, from a story by Luhrmann and Doner. It stars Austin Butler as Elvis Presley, with Tom Hanks, Helen Thomson, Richard Roxburgh, Olivia DeJonge, Luke Bracey, Natasha Bassett, David Wenham, Kelvin Harrison Jr., Xavier Samuel, and Kodi Smit-McPhee in supporting roles. The film is dedicated to the memory of the Ladd Company's founder, Alan Ladd Jr., who died in March 2022.
It was announced in 2014 that Luhrmann would be directing an Elvis Presley biopic, though the project was not officially announced until March 2019. Butler was cast in the title role that July, beating out several other actors, including Ansel Elgort, Miles Teller and Harry Styles for the part. Filming began in Luhrmann's native Australia in January 2020, but paused from March through September following the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. Filming wrapped over a year after it began, in March 2021.
Elvis premiered at several festivals, namely in France at the 2022 Cannes Film Festival on May 25, 2022, and was theatrically released by Warner Bros. Pictures in Australia on June 23, 2022, and in the United States on June 24, 2022. The film received generally positive reviews from critics, with Butler's performance garnering acclaim.

I'm only at about seven minutes, but I've watched numerous interviews now and I'm struck by how engaged Austin is every time even though hearing some things Baz is saying many times over. He really seems like such a lovely generous curious passionate compassionate sweet sensitive person.
He is extraordinary, isn't he? The real deal. The whole package.
@@pattyrech4471 Yes, exactly.
Yes BAZ comes across as a really nice generous at heart and down to earth guy! I live in Australia only 1 hour away from where it was filmed! 🥰
@@joannemurdock7899 He and Austin seem similar in these qualities...
Billiant
AUSTIN comes across HUMBLE and grateful! GIVE THIS young man an OSCOR! He has put his heart and soul into becoming Elvis! 💙💙🙏🙏
I’ve watched many of these interviews…don’t know who is doing Austin’s styling, but they’re hitting it out of the park. Look at these grey boots, precisely the same shade of grey as the silk shirt. Kid has looked stunning in every appearance he’s made regarding this film. Yes the movie was great, performance was spot on, but I had to comment on his incredible clothes and how exquisitely he wears them. He’s on his way to major stardom, and he deserves it.
He is so cute but he always was, that's why I recognized him after he was picked by Baz. My grandsons watched nick at nite, and Zoey and all of the other teen shows and Austin was on those.
Isn't it just a black shirt and black boots? Good style anyways tho
I heard Baz say that once the movie was going to be released, they had to make Austin a star, or have star quality because they knew from screenings what was going to happen to him. Evety interview he's done, his hair is impeccable and his clothes are perfect, not judt a tee shirt jeans and boots.
And he’s been modeling for some time, I believe. He’s been in the Hollywood network for a long time, too. Yeah, he’s bad about wearing sweats, hoodies and big jackets. Blend in clothes. Now he’s got to dress like a star to seal the deal. He’s been a star in waiting for some time. The stars have aligned, literally. The Lion is roaring!
amen on the stylist!!!
Elvis' life story deserves the big screen and Baz and Austin gave the world the spectacular that unfolds on the big screen ! ! ! As.an Elvis fan I owe them all the gratitude that I can find within my heart ! ! ! THANK YOU ! ! !
Elvis deserved a real true story not this one. How dare they make Elvis a recluse loner at 1973 then die 🤬🤬🤬🤬
Gail I TOTALLY agree with you! So far I have seen this movie 7 times !
OSCORS GALLORE FOR ELVIS THE MOVIE IS SENSATIONAL!
🥰from Australia!
You don't need to worry Baz, because we all love this movie!! I love the scene with the trombones, and the drummer. "take it up an octave"!! I loved that, it's so what we never knew about elvis. And his interaction with the drummer. OMG. To me that's Elvis.
That scene gave me chills. The specific "take it up an octive" scene made his concert opener instantly recognizable. It was awesome!
@@ChrisC-zt3qy yes it did. I never thought about elvis recoding the bom bom bom bom was what elvis chose for himself to enter the stage.
I l♥️ved that scene too!
🥁 "AH! AH! AH! AH!" 👅
YESSSS!
AUSTIN IS PHENOMENAL PLAYING AS #ELVIS AMAZING MOVIE, he's so
SEXY.HANDSOME..TALENTED ACTOR..austin deserves OSCAR!!!!!
i liked the movie so much.. watched it 5x..BEST SCENE WAS
AUSTIN singing #TROUBLE. that was amazing performance !!!!
Austin deserves the Oscar, he is massively talented, magnificent, mesmerizing, absolutely passionate, sensitive, an absolute genius.
I have been a lifelong fan of Elvis and saw two of his live shows in the early 1970s. He was so easy to love and his talent was a gift to us all. I have continued to enjoy his music through the years. I remember vividly where I was when I learned of his death. Though terribly sad it was not
really surprising because of his very painful and obvious decline into addiction. Now, thanks to this wonderful movie we are able to understand what was happening to him. I can see why the Presley family is so moved and why they are endorsing this wonderful film. Thank you Baz, et el. Well done! Now for Austin Butler! Incredible talent, dedication, preparation and performance. Austin's embodiment of Elvis is amazing! In addition, he is very poised, articulate and likable. I look forward to seeing what he does going forward.
👌
Great interview. Baz really explains the story and the motivation for why he created this story. There are plenty of documentaries and movies explaining much of Elvis's life but none how this movie captures the real Elvis and the influence he had on music. He was a phenomenon.
This movie is a VISUAL FEAST and sounds of great entertaining and FANTASTIC musical Explosions! 🥰fr.Australia

Fantastic! Especially Baz’s answer to the race, music and appropriation question at the end.
The someone who said he should play Elvis was Vanessa…😢 they parted ways but both seem happy now
Those trousers on Austin....just sayin'. 😈
🤣🤣
Glad I'm not the only one noticing ❣
It was the *imprint* for me. 😳👀🥴🙌
RIGHT??
Saw movie 4x a first for me….best movie 2022… now 6x
I've seen it 5times and then bought it.
10 times so far for me! Very addictive watching 🥰
OMG OMG OMG!! AT 12:20 AUSTIN LITERLLY SAYS THAT NO ONE PRIOR TO SHOOTING THE FILM TOLD HIM HE SHOULD PLAY ELVIS!! YET VANESSA HUDGENS CLAIMS IT WAS HER IDEA!!! I KNEW HER STORY WAS BS FROM THE WAY SHE EXPLAINED IT!!!
He meant going way back because right after that, he mentioned a month before he did get told a couple of times.
Great interviews. Why was the camera moving around so much?
Was wondering how/from what source Austin summoned the BDE he radiates in this film. Wasn’t expecting his rather direct, albeit unspoken, answer at 36:15. 💀
I checked and Austin does not speak at thst moment.
👀💀
i wish you could put a subtitle bec sometimes it's hard to understand
Look at the transcript function in the video description
Use the captions feature. If necessary you can set it up in your UA-cam settings and turn off and on where yu want.

How much money are the actors going to get for making this movie ELVIS
Austin was paid $700,000. Tom Hanks $8 million.
Austin was paid $700,000. Tom Hanks $8 million.
Someone who is kind of a rookie, the pay is never great. But after Oscar noms and a hit film, the price goes up! His price on next film will be way high. Wow, Tom Hanks was kinda overpaid, IMHO.
@@laurieergas5689 omg i guessed 500,000...close! Tom demanded that much? Yikes.
All four of these people seem horribly uncomfortable in those chairs. The way each has to constantly readjust their body positions is so distracting I can’t even concentrate on what they are saying. Especially the woman-hopefully she would’ve worn an ankle length dress or slacks if she knew the discomfort beforehand. How embarrassing!
lol u are right. Poor choice of seats.
