  • Hi crafters! I suddenly needed a new printer and I purchased the EPSON ET-4850. Since I don't have any experience with EPSON printers I thought it would be interesting to film my experience setting it up and checking if it would be a good printer for a crafting business.
This video is not a setting up guide, but it can give you some insight whether this would be a good printer for you or not.
    0:12 Intro - why I feel I needed a new printer

    5:48 Adjusting for perfect printing

I bought my 4850 about two years ago and I love it. I've never had any problems with it. When I want a perfect print I go into settings and change it from to standard print to vivid. I've never had to clean the printer head and I use cardstock in it daily. There is a waste tank in the back that will need replacing when it fills up but I just did that two weeks ago and it only cost me around $14 US. Enjoy your new printer.

I bought an Epson Ecotank 3760 right before the pandemic, so late 2019, and I love it. It's the greatest printer I've ever had. However, after 4 years, and thousands and thousands (I do mean THOUSANDS) of color prints, it might be time for a new one. ;-) The amount of money I saved in ink alone, more than paid for the printer. Thanks for the video (and all of your videos.) xo

I've got an ET 2820 and I love it. I've only had it since last June and already the waste ink sponges are full.
Should be simple according to a friend who has 3. Contact Epson, they book it in for pickup, replace sponges and send it back.
I've had to make so many calls and webchats and I was told it was being collected Thursday. Well it wasn't so I'm not impressed with Epson support, but love the printer

I needed a new printer not too long ago because my 8 year old Canon was having issues so I bought an $800 Epson and the printing color was absolutely gorgeous! However, it wouldn’t print on vellum which was a disappointment but I was willing to live with it because the color was so beautiful; in fact, I was going to keep the old Canon just for printing on vellum. Then, as I was printing one day, I reached over to grab the paper that had printed, and my finger accidentally knocked the paper askew while the printer was going through its gyrations that it does after printing, and it literally grabbed the corner of the printed paper and sucked it into the machine! Plus, I also had several other issues of paper getting stuck for no apparent reason. We ended up returning the Epson and getting the Canon Maxify GX6021 instead. It works really well and does print on Vellum and thick card stock, however, the color is not nearly as bright as the Epson but it’s quite good still. Another thing is the epson does do borderless printing, whereas the canon does not. Also, two minor issues with the Epson that it didn’t print big documents in order, in other words, it would start with the first page and finish with the last, whereas canon always starts with the last page and finishes with the first so the document is in order when you finish printing. The other thing was you have to manually turn the printer on whereas canon starts automatically. So that is my experience in the last two months. Thank you for all your wonderful gifts, products, and videos! 🤗💗

I choose the borderless option, but it still prints with a border! It seems the only way to find out is to actually buy the printer and use it. Sigh.

I have a cheaper version of an ET 2720 I have had in just over 2 years....I have only put ink in 3 times. I print all the time. It is the best printer I have ever had. (You do need to print at least once a week to keep the heads from drying out) I print on all kinds of paper, fabric, and shrink plastic and it works amazingly. I have gotten so many of my friends to buy an Eco tank and they are all pleased with it as well.

I really need to get an EcoTank printer. I started out slowly with only free printables but it wasn't long before the "free" stuff was costing a fortune in ink, and then I was hooked and started buying kits as well **sheepish smile** and well, now that I'm changing cartridges three times a month and still not printing everything I wish to, it's just time to get an Ecotank. @@vectoriadesigns It is a lot and I rather expect I'll be like your other commenters and save so much on ink that the printer will eventually pay for itself. Now paper, on the other hand, not so sure I can save anything on paper, lol.... but my gosh, I'm having fun. Last night I realized that Stamperia Song of the Sea coordinates perfectly with Royal Peacocks, so today I'm on a mission to find what else coordinates with your papers before I use up the rest of my current ink cartridge!😂

I bought this exact printer about 6 months ago to replace my HP printer that I loved but it finally gave up after about 8 years. At first I wasn't sure about the Epson it had very few options for the type of paper to print on and very little room for creativity but over the past few months I have appreciated the cost efficiency and the quality of prints. (They are much more vibrant.) I do have to clean the print head frequently or I have lines across the images but I have learned to do it on a regular basis to prevent ruined prints. Overall, I am happy with it but I do miss my old HP. 💕

@@houseofstampsmore3865 I am sorry, I didn't double check the options on my printer. It actually says Presentation Matte and Premium Matte. I usually use Presentation Matte for most prints and switch to Premium Matte for cardstock. I am not sure if that is the same as Epson Matte. A quick tip for printing on 110 lb cardstock if you are having trouble with it jamming is to make sure the paper tray is completely full. With vellum, I have found if you mount it on a piece of cardstock with dbl sided paper on the top edge it prints just fine. I hope that helps! Happy crafting!! 🥰

I have the same model that I purchased a couple of years ago, however I don't think I would replace it with the same brand. Mine is paired with a Mac, it's easy to use and the ink is cheap to replace for someone like me who does a lot of printing but I find the colours leave a lot to be desired, especially the reds. I have to use "fine" quality printing to get colours that are nice for junk journaling (just a note that fine printing takes a long time to print a page and the ink levels go down a lot faster). I use a very good quality paper in various thicknesses, I also have never managed to get the printer to print on vellum which is annoying. Lots of printing also means lots of re alignment of the head's regularly.
So overall I much preferred our old Canon, I am glad you are happy with your Epson and I hope you don't have the same issues I have had.

    • @Dawn-fz5cu

I had the same issue with vellum but found that if I mount it on a sheet of cardstock with dbl sided tape at the very top edge that feeds through the printer first I can get it to print. It is a little annoying but it does work.

I have the Epson Eco Tank 2720 and so far it's working really well. Only thing I was disappointed with is that it doesn't do well with 110 lb cardstock printing. I managed to get 1 sheet of such to go through but I had to physically assist it. And mine is a back loading with the paper/cardstock having to go in upright. Anyway, I'm so happy for you. Thanks for the review. I currently have HP 5255 printer and I've had nothing but trouble with it. It won't print anything over 65 pound and the options to change the print are limited. The only good thing about the printer is HP ink program. I get all the ink I was need for a low price, I pay monthly. It is much cheaper than purchasing ink cartridges. They do limit the number of pages you can print but I don't have a problem going over the amount.

SO after taking it to have fixed the place i took it to called epson and told them it was a hardware malfunction. Instead of sending me a new one, they send me a refurbished one. Which after 3 months, it to started having issues. It will not print centered even changing the settings. It still prints fine. I decided to get a laser printer and man oh man it's amazing! Are they full bottles or only part? Thinking of the cartridges often in other printers - just enough to get you going then you need to buy more.

My advice ..... dump inkjet printers - one drop of water and your print on paper is ruined - it bleeds - ink is extremely expensive compared to color laser printers - the best printer especially for you in Europe is Ricoh - color laser printers - best value for money - instant print - no bleeds and no warping on paper - super vivid colors and extremely cheap per page print compared to inkjet printers - do your own investigating and consultation and see what I am saying is true and correct - love your channel !!!!!
