Logical reasons for the blank bullets: 1) the airport police are nearby sealing off the street, and 2) the terrorists in the church don't know exactly who's outside with the commandos. Hence, they needed to put on a show no matter what. Siskel and Ebert actually considered this to be the best Die Hard movie, w/ Siskel even ranking it as the 6th best film of 1990. Personally, it's my favorite of the sequels. DH3 may have a better villain, but its ending was anticlimactic. Didn't care at all for the last two sequels.
DH 2 was awesome. We had a great performance from Bruce back when he gave a darn about the franchise, sadistic villains, cool supporting characters and some of the most creative action sequences of the series (ejection seat and plane climax). This is when Die Hard still had balls and was geared toward the mature crowd. Flawed? Yes. Fun? Absolutely. RIP Die Hard (1988-1995).
None of the grenades have their fuse pulled except the last one, it’s subtle but u can see the difference and that’s why McClane takes a while to get out, the last grenade is meant to blow up the others
Jeremy mentioned the 2 bad spots in the film which were annoying but the film had also a lot of great elements. The harsh winter atmosphere was fantastic. The fights in the hanger or the threat level with the planes were always staggering.
Just saw the films for the first time back to back and I honestly almost liked the second better. I loved the airport airlines premise and felt so invested in the passengers etc.. the motion was stepped up.. and I was genuinely surprised by the twist. Loved it!!
Oscar Johnson Honestly, it's the only sequel that actually feels like a Die Hard movie given all the callbacks. The others barely have any connections to the first film except for Simon Gruber. Without such distinctions, John McClane may as well have been the protagonist of Speed.
Worst sequel (or at least most disappointing): Alien 3! Ironically, as a stand-alone movie it's actually pretty good... If you didn't see the 1st 2. But if you did see Alien & Aliens, it's like it took 3 steps back instead of forward. Just terrible!
The movie sequel i hated the most is actually 'Taken'. Taken 2 and 3 where absolutely terrible with unforgivable editing crap. Liam Neeson was the only best part of the Taken franchise. My favourite Die Hard movies has to be the 1st and the 3rd as it had the same Director 'John McTiernan' who knows how to make great action movies work. But if since John Carpenter's plan was to create a Non realted to each other Halloween movie series, the Halloween would be necessary, but possibly it could be one of those movie series with different names.

Everything that happens later on is already known which is humanity will win, the time travel mission was a last ditch effort which btw the resistance destroyed from what Reese said right? So yeah...

GUYS. I've BEEN on a plane before. Denver to LA is 3 hours. Fly to another airport.

As far as second films go the only other two that made me have the feeling of when I watched Die Hard 2 was Transformers Revenge of The Fallen, Charlies Angels Full Throttle, and Highlander 2: The Quickening.

The only thing I appreciated about Underworld Awakening is that they made Selena tougher, faster, and stronger---and they made it super obvious in her action sequences. I appreciated that b/c it made sense considering where the previous film left off.

Having just re-watch this movie after watching the first movie for the Christmas season, it is a lot better than I remember and if I am to be honest I'd much rather be a hostage in a tower than trapped on an airplane with low fuel in a blizzard at night.
Gotta admit that i like the Inspector Gadget sequel, it felt more true to the cartoon in my opinion. Not only because you don't see Claw's face, but also because Gadgets personality felt more accurate than in the first one.

my biggest problem with this movie is the whole thing with having the airplanes circle the airport for however many hours, the claim is that they can't make it to another airport, well this movie is based in DC if I remember correctly so you have 3 airports in DC plus you have the air force base and Baltimore is not that far away. that's 5 suitable runways an you can't tell me that as soon as the pilots lost communication with the one tower they wouldn't be heading toward another airport.
Actually the TBS edited "Yippee Kai Yay, Mr. Falcon" for Die Hard 2 is almost as good as Hans' version for me. They should make that an extra audio track for the blu ray.
You have to admit, that scene at the end where he sets the trail of gasoline on fire and it blows up the fucking plane mid air, is bad ass.

Roger Ebert & Gene Siskel gave this movie a thumbs up.; For a sequel, I think it's a pretty good one, in my view.
They also said it's better than the first one. Siskel even put it on his top 10 movies of 1990 list. Very underrated by everyone else.
