You are one of the best knife reviewers on you tube. That said I just hate this throw away thing. I spent a bit of time in the Boundary Waters and never lost my Swiss Army Knife. I used a Mora basic to slice tomatoes and it destroyed the finish. Going forward I'd spend $23 on a Buck 112 lightweight. Gotta get that chisel knife. Great video. It just occurred to me that I should get a 112 and slice tomatoes with it.

Don't ever be afraid to upload the occasional casual video. It's always good to hear from you, regardless. I have owned a few knives in the list, but the only one I still have and use is the Cold Steel Tuff Lite. Mine even has the same blue handles. I love that thing as a pure tool. I actually keep it with my tools instead of my fancy boy knives because I respect it that way.

Interesting that you choose 2 brands from Sweden as the best budget alternatives for fixeed knives. I happen to be a Swede and don't own a singel Mora or Hultafors knife. In sweden all people working in the building industry or similar jobs have Mora knifes. They use and abuse them. They are the best knifes if your brain are making the logical choice. I could take one of my sons wasted Moras and put a new edge on them with my Workshop Ken Onion sharpener. Now my brain is presumably not working logical when it comes to knifes. I have a number of fixed blades and folders that cost as much as 10 Moras or more. I have had this disorder since my youth and it doesn't seem to getting better with age and wisdom. I just happen to like sexy knifes. I presumably should see someone to cure my disorder. The common sense is that a Mora is all you need. If you ever end up in a survival situation the knife you carry is going to be your smallest problem. My dogs and I are searching for lost cats and dogs several times every week. They are what you call trailing dogs. We search often in the huge forests in Sweden. Places where you easily can get lost. I always carry a fixed blade and some basic first aid stuff in my backpack. That so I can build a improvised stratcher or make a fire to warm a cat or dog that have been chilled down to much to move. We have been close a few times to find dogs in that state but so far it has been enough to get them up on their legs and move around for a few minutes to get them in shape to walk out to safety. Actually a Mora would be enough for my needs.

You should try making your own knives. Benchmades new adamas in cruwear is $250~, a billet of cruwear costs $20~, the heat treating costs $50 at most, and belts for grinding for like $20. What kinds of knives do you have? I’m curious what a Swede carries. Any malanika puukkos? Also, do people carry puukkos on the buttons of their shirt in Sweden nowadays? Thanks for your time.!

American TSA confiscated my little swiss army knife from my med kit with 1.5" blade and scissors. Apparently they feel it's ample to down a 747...and it makes them feel unsafe. I don't know. Was ok with it going away, it was an freebie. Apparently for them too. Best cheap knife for the kitchen is a cheap filet knife. Rapala or Gerber for instance.
12c27/440C/AUS8 get bashed a lot, but you can still get a decent working knife at a great price In my experience. And they're stainless.

The TSA who are handpicked Low IQ ethnic minorities are specially trained to confiscate Swiss Army knives whilst ignoring AK47's & bomb belts. The TSA management are in complete denial to the fact that the 911 hijackers used $5 box cutters & not Swiss Army knives, in fact no hijackers , Allah Snack bar stabbers or muggers anywhere have used 1.5" blades or even 3.5" blade SAK's to commit terror or crimes with. Still I can't complain I have bought on Ebay several TSA confiscated 91mm SAK's in good condition including a very rare discontinued 20+ year old Motorist SAK that was only made for a short while in the late 1990's, it cost me at auction US $222 + shipping and its in such good condition that I use it at home as one of my 2 home tool kits ( the other is new bought Deluxe Tinker )

I love the Swiss Army knives, they have so much you'll find a use everyday for them. The tweezers and toothpick are very handy, if your friend has a splinter or cactus spine stuck in them the tweezers is handy, if later your friend annoys you (and your sorry you took out their splinter) you can always give them a jab of the toothpick. :)

I took most of my knife collection up to Rocky to show my daughter and her man. I gave them a No12 Opinel, my No8 Wenge wood (Opinel 'Black' edition), two of those indestructible Hultifors GKs, my large Buck fillet knife (because he's a mad keen fisherman), and a Scandanavian Zipper gutting knife because I reckon it would work really well on big flathead or reef fish.

1st time viewer and I absolutely agree with everything you have to say about the Openel #8. I have owned one for decades. The wooden handle wears in very quickly. Then with a flip of your wrist the blade is out, then a twist of the lock with your thumb and its locked. Unfortunately it's is illegal here in New York. So mine just sits on my dresser. So because we are in agreement I also substituted.

I recently acquired a QSP Penguin and a Bison fixed blade, both in D2.
The Penguin is a super value knife. Great materials, fit, finish and craftsmanship. Very sharp out of the box. My only complaint is
that the pocket clip is too tight....for a pants pocket. It lives very happily in the pocket on my t-shirts however. Light enough to
barely notice it's there, small enough to not interfere with a phone or other items in the pocket. Good choice Pete.
In the 10 best under $100 I would place the QSP Bison. Again superb fit and finish, D2, super sharp and another solid value. I was going to use
it as a camp/hiking knife but have decided it's too pretty to use or abuse. I have Mora's for that and they too are a good value, love the
    Scandi profile.
I have recently fallen in love with the Ka-Bar USN Mk i in 1095 Crovan with a 3 point retention sheath. Not a stainless steel but easy to
field sharpen to a razor's edge, tough and ductile steel that takes a lot of abuse, the blade coating is fairly thin and doesn't impede
cutting or slicing. Best of all it is a FFG and a great slicer. Jack of all trades, Master of none knife. Kraton G grip is excellent.
Keep up your efforts Pete, I have watched your channel almost since it's inception.

Pete! I know you love the QSP Penguin, so you MUST try the Sitivien ST103! I found it on Amazon for $27 USD. It's basically the Penguin (liner lock, bearings) but with a flipper, wider handle, & definitely longer blade, in D2. The action, dare I say, beats the Penguin.
I know I sound crazy, but I'm not. The thing falls shut, is perfectly centered if you care about that, has zero blade play from the box, & is sharpened very well. Yes, Sitivien likely *really* borrowed from some of the Penguin design, but i don't feel it's overly egregious.
You also must check out the Sitivien ST102, also for $27 USD. It's a liner lock flipper on bearings that drops shut so smoothly it'll make you throw a yogurt carton on the wall & scream "Now you're second smooth!" (I happen to think yogurt is pretty smooth. Should you agree with me about the knife, simply chastise a different product that the ST102 has demoted to inadequately smooth).
You can then thank me by thinking of me each time you use these knives, as if I had anything whatsoever to do with their quality. Or you know, whatever, I'm some guy get real, you don't owe me anything.
    But seriously, buy these. 😃

I’m still trigger shy on the penguin. Great list of knives, this low effort approach video style worked well

I picked one up just because I liked the denim micarta so much. Sheepsfoot blades have always been one of my favorite blade shapes and this QSP is a joy to use. For the price they are asking, you are getting a LOT of knife.

Pete, thanks for another great knife video. I would like to respectfully argue one of your choices... In place of the Buck 110 LT, I would recommend the Buck 286 Bantam. It is the same size and steel as the 110. It is another lightweight "plastic" handle design but it has three advantages. The 286 is a drop point so the blade is arguably tougher. The 286's contoured handle is a bit more comfortable in my hand. Finally, the 286 Bantam retails for about 1/3 less money then the 110LT. As this vid focused on budget knives I feel the cost advantage gives the Bantam the win over the Buck LT.
    Thanks again for the video.
P.S. At the end you went back to calling the "penguin" a "parrot". ;-)

I bought a couple brand name brands on WISH. I'm convinced they're seconds. My CEO has a stripped scale screw. The two VG-10 Fällkniven had minor grind glitches. They cleaned up well.

Wish is all fake junk. Avoid it, your just gonna get ripped off.

@@tacticalcenter8658 I'm pretty sure these are seconds or they came out of a factory back door. I agree most of WISH is junk. These are good "clones" at any rate. The little A1 is awesome. Edge is as good as any. It had a slight belt-edge cut near the handle.

@@tacticalcenter8658 I agree. These are seconds not clones I'm pretty sure. I've left the "VG-10" in raw ground beef until I had to scrape it off. Not a stain.
